I'm pretty sure distribution and inventory of physical copies for retail purposes had to play a major part in why music and movies were once released on specific days. Streaming has since changed these rules.

On UA-cam, skipping a pre-roll ad after 5 seconds doesn't count as a view/stream. It only counts if the person watches at least 30 seconds of it. So skipping the ad anytime beyond the 30-second mark will count as a view and who ever set up the ad will have to pay for that view/stream.
People have 1 million UA-cam views but sell 15,000 in the first week

Not really true. Labels have a long history of buying copies to pad the sales. If you sell 770,000 copies of your album. What labels would do is see how close you are to going platinum and they would but the remaining 230,000 copies for you to go platinum. Now, not only do you owe for the advance they gave you, you also now owe as well for the copies they bought for you to go platinum.
