Note: After releasing this video the English team confirmed they are also scrimming SSA as well as playing SSA 6mans. That felt like an important point to relay
Im from SSA and i welcome any and all players. Weve been playing on eu servers for ages . I get at best 200 ping. We need more players to grow as a community. Frankly the skill gap here is killing our growth either ur gc1 or diamond 3 no in between
I mean it would mean the lower rated regions might finally get worthy competition and improve more. For almost all seasons now the smaller regions have been lackluster at any event they were able to go to. This might help remedy it tbh
This seems like a good move from Psyonix - at least now teams that want to play in less competitive regions have some sort of disadvantage. Not enough to completely discourage them but at least a disadvantage. I also think this incentivizes SSA teams to step up and improve, we've seen this debate in the past since there is a lower quality of play at LANs when there are slots awarded to these underdeveloped regions. If these teams can't beat a mid-tier EU squad on 160 ping they really have no place contending at RLCS Majors.
I think this is a reasonable change. It will actually further help develop these regions because rather than only getting to play higher level competition at LANs, they will get to play them during each regional. I think about it like the different sport leagues around the world. The NBA usually has the best talent because they know they can get paid the best there, but most other leagues pull in players from all over the world (primarily North America for basketball). Just check out the leagues in China. While I’m not saying this is only a win and no loss, I do think it’s a mostly positive outcome for the esport. This will not only light a fire under these players asses, but also give them more exposure to higher level play.
I've been hearing this whole time that this new rule is going to make the minor regions better but that's not true at all. These EU teams playing regionals in SSA (for example) are not going to scrim SSA teams, they're going to scrim better EU teams and then for a couple weekends a split, play with high ping for a chance to go to a LAN. If they were forced to scrim in the region they've signed up in then that would be a different story but there's nothing in place to force that. On a pure ethical note, if some team in my region signed up for another region, I would blacklist them from scrims, forcing them to find scrims in the other region.
I sense some frustration and I personally share it. While this is within the rules, it compromises the competitive integrity that's intended with this rule. Your point about this team being a mid-low team even in EU is valid, and they'll more than likely just get swept come major time. But these are just kids, 13 year old kids that are impressionable and need guidance. The RLCS needs stricter rules that discourages and limits immature behavior like this, especially considering it just dropped the age requirement) because immature behavior is to be expected from kids
The open qualifiers luckily went well for our SSA teams. It could have been better, but the chance of an EU team taking our major spot is much lower than it appeared
Im going to have look indepth at just how much the ping is going to affect their play. Are the EU guys faster, more mechy, and more consistent? Yes. But what will that look like on 140 ping vs SAM we will have to see.
@@davidjr4903 see, you’re just making it worse. I understand that some of you players from other regions aren’t skilled enough to beat others in your region so coming to SSA servers won’t help, you’re gonna lose against them anyways since you can’t even beat players in your own region🤷♂️
@@davidjr4903dude im from eu but going to a seperate region because you arent good enough in your own is kinda shitty... like how about the bubble players just get good to compete with the best in europe ?
@@davidjr4903have you ever thought why USA, Europe and Korea always top e-sports? It's because they have more people who have the means to play an ungodly amount of hours. It's a matter of money, not of inherent skill. One of the reasons to have regions is to allow skilled players that may not have as many opportunities to have a chance to prove themselves and maybe get contracts. It's to give skilled but less fortunate players a chance, not for the bottom of the rung of other regions to take advantage of.
only @davidjr4903 gets it. did ya all even watch the video? the SSA teams literally look like c2 lobbies from eu / na. the amount of whiffs is absurd. to let a team like that play at the rlcs is just ridicilous. theyre gonna get sweeped every single match.
Funnily enough I started playing a match in all regions for 3s just because I never tried it before. The ping was worst in OCE (I'm playing EU) and doesn't matter what region there were always greedy players who chased every ball😥😥😥 I was actually glad to get back to eu. But I loved travelling around and I didn't think the ping was that bad even at 300.
imo easy solution is you have to have citizenship in the country you want to represent although I'm sure that has it's fare share of problems but if we're concerned about people not from Morocco taking a chance in RLCS from a Moroccan than thats the solution. Or have proof of residency that dates back to two years prior from the country you are going to represent to qualifying for RLCS if the concern is quality of games being the best they can be then restrict nothing except age, can't really have a best-of-both worlds.
@@Thatwhiteblackkidpretty sure you get a badge if you play in the open quals, i’m not sure how you sign up for them but judging by how many teams signed up they really aren’t that rare lol
They should at the very least be scrimming in the region they plan to compete in, not only does it allow them to prepare for high ping competition but could potentially help develop a regions skill ceiling overall. And imo a good way to counteract this arguably shady move is to add equal spots to all regions. SAM is going to suffer especially this year because of the lack of representation
If two EU teams match up in the online SSA qualifiers would they still play on SSA servers or would they play EU since there wouldn’t be a ping advantage either way?
It may be frustrating for SSA players at first, but they will quickly improve scrimming against higher level competition and the incentive for these transfer players will decline.
I think Iraqi players are not allowed to play because of US sanctions or something so its a different situation for them, I haven't done my research yet though
I think that if an EU team could go and play on 180 and win the number 1 spot in SSA, it just shows that SSA isn’t strong enough to deserve a spot at majors. Yeah you’d be getting a 5th EU team that prob isn’t the 5th best EU team, but they’d at least be better than whatever SSA would produce. That said, there’s just no possible way this EU team does well in SSA
Every truly international team has the best of thier country or region compete. There's anyways weak regions. The answer is never to exclude unless you give up the world "world" in your tournament
PSYONIX WHY???. so what if the SSA guys arent as good as EU, NA, or MENA?? Let them be the underdogs. They might get stomped ya but then theyll come back harder, inspire more from their region, and have region authenticity. Why even have "regions" at this point if you are going to remove the rule that maintains their integrity? Ridiculous
That all-SSA scrim looks fairly similar to my ranked 3's games ~C3 -GC1.... not sure what 160 ping looks like but i would imagine semi-pro/bubble players will clean up the SSA lobbies. I think the best idea would be bubble / lower tier MENA pro's moving over to SSA (i would imagine better ping from there?). That would be a disrespectful farming session.
If a region cant field a team that can beat 180 ping bubble players, they dont deserve to be a region. It's also pretty obvious that DEI is the motivation behind adding Africa as a region, so it's heartening to see Psyonix humiliated for this decision.
How are regions supposed to improve if they just get shut out? Id be pissed to watch olympic basketball if it was just a bunch of American teams playing
Now its confirmed half the top 16 is basically eu, shows this is a joke. The fact they are locked is hilarious, isnt a good long term plan. Big L for eu bubble tbh

what meaning do regions hold if anybody can play in any region?
They are considering it the region servers pretty much…my guess is to bump up sign ups
The same thing it always meant…….nothing
