  • Earlier this year, I stopped wearing a corset every day. But the reason why might not be what you think. In this video, I get honest about some of the things I've been navigating in my own life with regards to my creative expression through clothing and also the deeper themes that have been coming up for me.
I feel that, although this is a change, it's a beautiful (and most of all more authentic) one, because now there are endless possibilities in the realm of historical fashion and I'm looking forward to showing you all what I have brewing content and sewing-wise.
Thank you very much for listening, and watching, and I'll see you in two weeks for another video.

A little life update, as I've been quietly preparing and planning future creative endeavours 😊 I wanted to get honest about how my expression of historical fashion has been shifting - and I'm excited about it!
I'm really looking forward to upcoming content. I've been feeling a bit unenthusiastic about what types of topics to cover next, and opening up about this change has definitely renewed my creativity and passion.
I'll still be keeping my old video about wearing corsets every day up, as I think it's a nice resource for those who are deeply interested in corsetry.

That's so good. I don't know if you take video requests, but if so, it would be nice to see you do a video regarding royal court dresses, specifically the Russian imperial ones (my faves). I've been obsessed with 19th century royal history for over 2 years now, and the fashion aspect of it has peaked my interest recently.😊

“you don’t have to be one thing” my goodness this is such a lovely message to hear from within the historical clothing community. it’s such a joy to give yourself the freedom to wear whatever you want without feeling inauthentic to the image you might’ve created for yourself. very nice video vasi :))

Personally I love the branch into Eastern European styles, but I have always loved the shifting styles of the early to late Middle Ages, and learning how migration spreads one technique from its original area to new realms.

Can't wait to see more fashion from different eras/cultures. Much as I love the more popular fashion eras, as a history nut there's nothing I love more than seeing lesser known parts of human history getting the spotlight for a change. That Tatar dress is divine btw.

Oh my, that Tatar dress looks absolutely GORGEOUS on you. You looks so happy wearing it too, and that just makes it all the more beautiful. And that's the point, isn't it? You are wearing what makes you happy, be that Victorian European/Irish, Tatar, Medieval or Renaissance or anything else, and as long as you are happy with it, you positively glow with infectious inspiration. I personally can't WAIT to see what you have in store for us, and I'll love going on this journey of discovery with you and broaden my horizon.

I am all in on 16th century English clothing at the moment - Tudor kirtles, shirts and doublets fit into a modern wardrobe really effortlessly - but I'm also trying to get my Japanese reading level back up because I really did not appreciate the depth of fashion history when I lived in Japan. The junihitoe style worn by Heian era aristocrats is one of the most luxurious fashions I've ever seen

I’m Sámi/Swedish American and I love combining my ancestry with my favorite historical eras, not necessarily the history of said fashion but I love combining design philosophies and practicality with my late Victorian early Edwardian inspired personal style. I also love fantasy so imagining clothing from my favorite books makes me so happy.

The artistic and aesthetic dress movement of the late 18 and early 19 hundreds appears to embody a lot of what you are doing. I have found that for myself, adaptations of those styles are always comfortable and becoming. I just wanted to add that you do a great job with your videos.

I am from Provence in France and the history of clothing is just diverse and amazing, deeply connected to the history of the area, from the plague which came with the forbidden use of cotton printed indiennes, to the Revival of the Provençal culture through the Arlesienne traditional unique costume...celebrated by Frederic Mistral. So much to discover ...

I'm so happy you're expanding your reach to other areas in history. Your ancestral dress suits your face perfectly. Recently I've been drawn to more 15th century garments. It just feels much more authentic and peaceful to not force yourself into one era. It doesn't have to stop at clothing either: music, food, literature. In my opinion literally anything that transports you deeper into the era you're exploring is a great addition to enriching your experience.
Such a poignant and positive message in this video about not limiting yourself, truly expressing and exploring all of the parts of your soul. A message I needed to hear, thank you.
Also my favourite era's and regions of fashion would be: 2nd century BC Greece, 12th century England, 14th century German, 15th century Italian Renaissance & 17th century France.

      😍😍 WoW!!!
you are a lovely butterfly and a beautiful rose
you are the diamond and the pure gold
you are the lovely moon in our nights
you are the radiant sun shining soo bright
loving you is sooo sweet its the most enjoyable thing
for you are the paradise for the heart and soul and mind
Everything about you is sooo unique and attracts the eyes and captivates the mind
God surely perfected you so glorified is he whom made you too beautiful and made you soo smart
      🌷😘
      😍😍
      you are too beautiful!!
whomever see you should believe that God is true & real..
and whenever I see you I feel like Iam in a dream,
And when we wake up we will all realize that all this life was nothing but a dream and that only God is whats true and real..
There was a teacher whom didn't believe in the existence of God, one day he asked his students, do you see God?
the students then replied no we don't see God, so the teacher said if you don't see God it means there is no God.
then a smart student stood up and said to the other students hey guys can you see the teachers brain?
then the students answered no we don't see the teachers brain, the student then said the teacher then is crazy, he has no brain
      :0)
The universe science says was not always there, it had a beginning point, the big bang, meaning it was begun/initiated in other words created, thus there should be a creator,
      there must be a God.
One God for all of us
he created us all and can revive us again,
      God initiated everything,
& he repeat/redo things too, & thats clear, we see many cycles of different things in life, also in summer for example the desert land becomes like empty and is filled with only sand, and when rain falls in abundance in spring or winter, after that small flowers & wild plants grow again, also, we see how humans and animals grow and how their body is formed from the elements which were in the sand which plants feed on which they eat, and after they die they go to the sand and their atoms/elements are taken by plants which humans & animals eat and their bodies grow from those atoms & elements found in the sand which came from previous humans & animals which died before, so God can bring us again after we die even if our atoms became in the sand he can make us from the same atoms we were made of or from other atoms if he want or make us be in a spirit form or like ghosts, any ways, everything in this life is recycled, learn if you want about the different cycles in life in nature, the food cycle or food chain, the water cycle, even the gas cycle that makes the air the oxygen &carbon dioxide &nitrogen cycles, even the energy is like recycled but only changes from form to another form.
Anyways, God created this life but it's only a temporary sample/an example of a coming everlasting one
which could be either in heaven paradise or in hell.
If we try to be good humans in life, and try to obey God and his messengers-including the final messenger for all humanity the prophet Mohammed- and those whom rightly represent them, for example imam Ali & ahlulbayt the family/good descendants of the prophet mohammed, then we will all go to heaven/paradise, if not then we will go to hell fire and burn in it forever.
keep shining sunshine &spread the light.

I've been describing my style as Congolese( African)- nomadic-time-travelling- librarian so I completely understand the want to explore different areas (geography and time) of fashion. Personally, I approach fashion as a means to express my background lived-in experience and interests. Therefore everything that I am inspired by often links back to my personal history. I love discoving inspiration from other cultures that make me think of my own culture. I'm looking forward to your future projects.

Back at school, many years ago, I was tempted towards studying psychology. Laziness and and lack of confidence propelled me to many years of unhappy construction-related endevours. Never understood fashion or style, as anyone who knows me would testify, but the concepts have fascinated me over the years. But, I find it so odd, so strange, and so damaging that someone is judged on what they wear. To me, clothes are, well, to cover and to facilitate. An individual is beautiful because of what they do, what they say, how they act, and has nothing to do with dress. Of course, outfits can amplify beauty - that red Tartar is simply stunning. But that isn't you. I think you're stunning because of what you say and do. Maybe I'm just old and jaded. Thank you for making me think. All the very best, Pete.

I pick up Kaoru Mori's A Bride's Story now and again and i notice the clothing and needlework in it are very important parts of the story of the people living in the Caspian Sea area in the late 18th century. Of course, there's always the postwar New Look, too, which i would think was far enough in the past to be historical. Dunno why that doesn't get more love.

YES! I call my slowly expanding me-made wardrobe "historically inspired, not accurate" and wear a large mixture - inspired by many eras. I also work with young kids during the week so am slowly working on a work wardrobe that is fun and colourful. So far I have a pair of jeans that I altered and added a scrappy fun panel on each side, and I just finished a miss frizzle style dress in a fun print that I am planning to wear tomorrow. I am partway through a patchwork dress with various Aotearoa (New Zealand) representative prints on it as well. Corsetry often is not the right choice while I am working - though I love the back support while sewing!
Some of my favourite historical fashion styles are medieval England/Europe (tunics, kirtles, tights) I am quite interested in making a neotlithic/bronze age (Egtved girl?) outfit at some stage too. I also love country/traditional dutch/rural folk clothes - I am of Scandinavian, Dutch and Scottish descent so for me this would be similar to your wish to feel closer to your heritage. I really like traditional Pacific Island clothes, but as a Påkehå (white NZer) I do not feel comfortable wearing this style as it could be taken as appropriation.
I would love to see some content around the various outfits/historical periods you are currently enjoying and the different layers that go into them! Be really interesting, it's really hard to find information about more rural/folksy dress from specific areas!

Seeing you dress this way is very reminiscent of some Tatar photographs I saw in the 19th century. It's very fascinating to see you explore all parts of yourself, and I feel like very keen viewers would've seen this coming with your Irish working class video.
As for me, I'm Vietnamese-American so it's been fun exploring historical fashion in my ancestral country. Even though I started off by buying hanfu (which the Chinese historically imposed on us through various eras of domination until we eventually adopted them later on, through garments such as áo giao lĩnh and áo viên lĩnh), I've recently been making baby steps with vintage style áo dài. Yet my ultimate goal is to experiment with Vietnamese fashion from various periods. My favorites thus far are the Later Lê and Nguyễn dynasties.
Through my quarter Jewish ancestry, I could see if I can experiment with Jewish accessories but even I worry that I might be encroaching on an already marginalized group since I'm not culturally connected to the Jewish community in any way, which was severed through my grandpa's death.

I can't wait to see what you come up with! I love medieval kirtles! If I had to wear one type of garment for the rest of my life, it would be a medieval kirtle/dress.

This is I think the first video of yours I've ever watched. I'm interested in Vintage styles, more 1930s-1950s, and I love the structure and elegance of the edwardian era. I also love medieval working class clothing.

You need to get the Max Tilke books!!! He researched a lot of folk dress from around the world, especially around the Middle East and Asia Minor, and he documented in great detail what he saw. They are vintage/antique books now, and the english versions are very pricey. Foreign language (such as french) versions are more affordable.
I'm loving your new direction, it's brave, bold and refreshing!!!! People today are far too apt at pidgeon-holing themselves into one tiny little box, for the sake of "Identity"!!

Thank you for sharing! We all evolve over time. One of the most freeing things I’ve done is letting go of the idea that I need a defined or static sense of style. I can really relate to this! After wearing regency fashion for every day nonstop. I recently started getting more into the fashion of my ancestral home region and am currently planning my first outfit from antiquity for everyday wear. I guess its not too far of a stretch considering how heavy the influence of fashion from antiquity was on the regency era :D

I love to mix up areas even, it depends on the season and on my mood and if I care to stand out or blend in. The beauty of beeing able to make all your clothes is that you can be limitless, there are nor bounderies only the ones you make for yourself.

I appreciate the update, and 100% support each creator and person doing what they want!
I would be very interested to see styles and clothing I am unfamiliar with! Idk if I would enjoy making or wearing them, tho.
Mine has been more of a journey of history Bounding than historical reproduction.
When I was close to your age, my favorite eras of clothes to wear were the 1950's (both poofy & pencil). But, I prefer/ed a more rounded upper foundation garment. There was a brief era in the 1980's/90's that replicated this silhouette, I liked it too. Also, the "Mideval Kirtle" (as so many creators have made these past few years). However, I made mine looser in the torso, for ease. Also, rather than the Norse region of "hanging skirt/apron/over garment", I preferred the loose English/ European style of over dress, with "armsyes" that graze the hipbone region. Also, the version of this outfit as seen in Romantic Era historical painted scenes.
Currently, While fascinated with the Very Wealthy and oppulent clothes of the 1770's to 90's, I also enjoy the silhouette of the working and empovrished classes from then, but, my clothes themselves are closer to the A-line smock dresses of the early 1960's.
So, sadly, nothing you're not already aware of.
I do also love the Regional Garb I have seen from various places in Europe & nearby. But, the silhouettes themselves remain very *close* to the same 1950's poofy skirt look. The wonderful embroidery & vests change the surface, and make them look gorgeous, and so much for aesthetic, yo my eyes ( I love "ornate", regardlessof the materials it's composed of)
    I shall think on it.

*THERE IS A LIMITED NUMBER* of things you can make from one period before you simply run out of options or inspiration.
I love men's suits 1890 to 1920 and I wear them every day. But I am about to start on a pair of 1930's "Oxford Bags" trousers and soon I will make an 18th century Banyan. Its my hobby, not my slave master.

I'm looking forward to seeing more diverse historical clothing in your channel! As a re-enactor of late iron age Finland, I'm biased and I love the fashion of that time and region (mainly 11th and 12th century and southern Finland. Yes, iron age goes that late in Finland). But also western Slavic fashion from the early middle ages is beautiful and Carolingian clothing from the 8th and 9th century... And so much more!!

I'd enjoy seeing some videos on traditional Oriental clothing such as the Kimono or Kira and how Western people can wear them properly and respectfully for their native cultures. With the Maui disaster, even doing content on traditional Polynesian dress would be fascinating.
