I wish Art Deco was back I truly love it's style for what it is and not just because, of the BioShock games but on how inspiring it can be for artist. If I can bring back one fashion statement it be Art Deco. :D

I loved Art Deco long before that great game. I have allot of Art Deco and Mid Century Mod furniture. My couches and chairs are MCM. My desk and bed is AD. I also have allot of old communist era memorabilia.

Here in Brazil the art déco is one of the main architecture styles in our cities. I didn't know the concept of art deco before, so I thought in our cities the buildings were like that in an attemp of creating new designs different from the typical eclectic style, but them I learned about art deco and it all made sense! In my state of Minas Gerais, our capital city of 'Belo Horizonte' is predominantly of art deco in the city centre, it's truly a Marvel the style. There's also strong Art Déco presence in Rio de Janeiro downtown, such as de iconic central railway station of Rio, 'Central do Brasil'. São Paulo and other brazilian capitals have several elements of art deco as well, mainly old residential buildings. I wasn't a big fan of Art Deco, as I much prefer art nouveau, but I'm starting to appreciate more since it's something we have so much in here. xD Cheers.
Just drive to the older part of your town or city and you will notice this style in the buildings. You can date you town's development by the style of the houses and buildings. Each era of time has it's own unique style that dates it.

The dates of the Art Deco era on this video is incorrect. Most historians agree that art deco began on either 1909 or 1910. By pre ww 1 you already had fashion designers (Paul Poiret, Jacques Doucet), furniture designers (Eileen Gray, Paul Follot) and architects (Auguste Perret, Henri Sauvage) designing in what would later be known as the art deco style. Look at pre ww1 textiles by Raoul Dufy, Paul Iribes furnishings/ fashion illustrations and the Theatre des Champs-Elysees (completed in 1913) as examples of early Art Deco.

One of the interesting things about Art Deco is that it did not require a boatload of artistic talent (or imagination, for that matter) to make a pleasing design. If you have a ruler, a compass, and a french curve plus a little bit of imagination, you can create attractive Art Deco designs.

A common misconception is to classify buildings as art deco when in fact they are streamline moderne, which came from art deco.
