      More like over priced crap. Everything is made by the lowest bidder but is still way over priced, example toilet seats for an Aircraft carrier costing like 500 dollars per seat and they made by a company that sells the same thing at Home Depot for 10 bucks per seat

      Indeed lol. I remember a friend bought a vape and he was boasting that it was "military grade and fully waterproof due to it being military grade. To test this we first dropped it on the floor, it survived but pieces fell off, we then threw a small bottle of water onto it and it fried the thing🤣

Without the POGs the military is just a bunch of idiots who know how to shoot guns well. Hell, without logistics you don’t even get to shoot because there are no bullets. It will forever baffle me why signing up to be cannon fodder is apparently a badge of honor. Is it that you guys are pumped to clap innocent brown kids? This is the American military we’re talking about so that would track.

      They aren't issued anymore. It's considered ta-50 at OUST but not given at units anymore. I went out and bought mine.

    Back in the '80's when I was new PFC out of boot camp, my very first platoon sergeant took me to clothing sales and had my buy a two poncho liners and a wet weather gear top two sizes too big for me. He then took me across the main gate entrance to a Mamma San tailor and had those items sewn together to make the only piece of gear I ever kept for my 20+ year career. Best $35 I ever spent in my life, thank you SFC Aguilira, where ever your black heart is!

      @@supercoffeemug1921 100% lamb wool ( three finger mittens ) - 35°C and no frost bites. 👍🏼 Helmet beanie 100: lamb wool and innercircle 100% merino wool. There are more expensive wool and silk beanies under the helmet also.

    As someone with a fleece cap, I can say that it does keep you warm. I wore it outside when it was cold and the cap made my head warm when I was an ice cube

    Fun fact: I got that exact flashlight that's in the picture as a Christmas gift, and Hy shit that thing is actually amazing. It's lasted years of abuse, and is actually a solid flashlight.

    My father-in-law is 80 years old, did 27 years in the Army, purple heart, and Vietnam Vet. He retired in 1987. This dude travels and sleeps with his woobie to this day. He never leaves home without it.

    Parents and brother are Airforce, my dad’s retired, and we’ve got so many of those fleece caps and they’re perfect in the winter, especially when we’d go sledding, go see the Northern Light, or go see fireworks lol

    I have a Woobie, sleep system and a knitted watchcap.
    The sleep system is more than a sleeping bag. You have a patrol bag that is good to 30°F an intermediate cold liner that is good to -10°F, the camoflaged outer bivy cover and of course the stuff sack to pack it in

    We used to have the sew shops off post in Korea sew a slit in the middle of the poncho liner and add sometimes velcro to make it work while wearing the poncho. Also they would disassemble a new pair of boots and sew in rabbit fur. It was cold as hell in the winter there.

    I'm from western alaska and I have a surplus 3 piece modular sleeping bag, and that thing is legit. Rain or snow it doesn't matter, basically turns the world into your tent. The rubber military bunny boots are big up here too. I've been out in -40 on the ice, and accidentally dunked my foot in the hole. Pour the water out and it warms back up in a few minutes.

    Yes to all of this, and if you are on deployment make sure to go by DRMO they always have a ton of wubbies and flece caps. All of my civilian friends who hunt were gifted wubbies and caps when I got home.

    Still have my poncho liner from the 80s.
    It got a little thread bare.
    I bought a newer one at the Surplus store.
    Bought a sleep system with the Gortex bivy.
    Gortex bivy with poncho liner and Base layer for the cold weather system is good down to about 40 degrees.

    in the german Bundeswehr the best thing you get out of ccombining 3 pieces of equipment is the "Flöffel". you need a stainless steel spoon, a lighter and some military issue olive ducktape. you ducktape the lighter to handle of the spoon in a way you still can use both, but you use a good amount of ducktape so you always have some at the ready. the lighter and spoon held together is a good way to have your essentials for starting the dry fuel cooker and eating your soup or ration in one place.

    For the sleep system, put the winter inside the summer, but sleep on top of the winter. Comfortable but still warm. Or just put 2 winters on the ground in a tent, and sleep with another dude in the tent. Don't need a blanket because it's warm.
    Just make sure if it's cold, you leave a crack in the zipper.

    In 90 my unit was deployed to Honduras. During winter. Day time temps were 120 degrees. Night time it dropped to 80. When you’re doing hard labor in hot temps then the temp fluxes that drastically it feels cold as fuck. We all were in our sleeping bags by morning. Sgt green would wake us up by yelling “let’s Get Hot”. What an asshole.
