My favorite lyrics are "We were to close to the stars"...there was something pretty epic going on....but than "I better lose somebody than use somebody"...I think there is a kind of protection part, because you don't want to hurt somebode you cherish....and maybe just maybe this "separation" it's a blessing in disguise. ;-) But it does sound like it, that it is only a separation until both of them figuerd something out. What I don't get is the lyric "it's a chore for you to give".

"wish you wanted more but it was a chore for you to give" imo he's trying to say that you could've given more efforts if you wanted more. But it was a chore( = burden) for you to give that effort into their bond/relationship
