I do agree with you on the absence of any individual search when they were ordered to step out of the vehicle. That’s the only black mark on the trooper that I could see.
Once probable cause was met by searching the vehicle he should have probably called for backup as there were two occupants and he was alone. Red flag was drawn when she said no to searching and then later said she didn't know what was in the car. So once she said no they should have been (detained). No, they dont have a road test for weed content in your blood -- yet. You can't do it in your car, you can't do it before driving without expecting consequences and if you say you are not worried or as one person put it "I aint skeered" then you do NOT have the right to be upset when you are sitting in the back of a cop car.

It's incredible he didn't search them right away and detain them in restraints closer to the car.
I think the trooper did a good job by himself and every decision he made was probably well thought out in his head! Let’s remember at the beginning there really wasn’t any probable cause to search the vehicle. He did separated both of them keeping the male subject closer to him.
I don't see why letting them go up the road was the best idea especially not being searched. I mean alot happens fast.
