I genuinely miss bro and his general commentary on music. I’d love to see what his reaction is for the ongoing Drake and Kendrick beef. I’ve loved watching Shawn’s videos for over 6 years now - loveddd his videos cause they helped me not get sucked into internet toxicity at a young age and have my own opinion, while being mindful of having respect and understanding and looking at music with a no BS lens. Beautiful human being and I truly, dearly miss him and his presence from the bottom of my heart
i know Mabe Fratti’s 2022 record resonated with you and i was wondering if you heard Vidrio by Titanic? it’s her with a regular collaborator on the 2022 album playing with kinda sparse, avant-grade jazz elements and it’s really incredible! i think if you enjoyed Se Ve Desde Aquí, you’d really like this one too. anyways, this is a great list and i’m looking forward to listening back to some of the stuff i missed earlier this year that you highlighted here!
Just love seeing Mabe's audience continuing to grow, found her by chance a few years ago when her first album dropped and have loved everything so far.
i love the way you talk about albums, out of the albums you listed that i've heard your descriptions were extremely accurate. my favorite album this year is Nourished By Time - Erotic Probiotic 2, fell in love off the first listen

Yeah brodee! Kara had me bawling on the title track; never lost anyone that close (yet) but shit man the whole album had me captivated!! In no particular order my top 5 were Scaring the Hoes, Um Novo Tom; a crazy jazz album by this dawg ass bassist and composer from Brazil Michael Pipoquinha. @@kramersilver8331 sufjan and Caroline deserve their spots tho but their is some form of truth to that for some reason unlike other mediums ( TV, films, manga, books etc..) people are much more complacent and less likely to expand their music taste

I haven’t listened to the Kara Jackson album yet but Shawn really makes me feel like I’m missing out damn. My album of the year is Red Moon in Venus by Kali Uchis, I feel like R&B had so many breakouts this year and barely noticed the hip-hop drought people have been talking about because of it.
Such a good album. I really hope hip hop makes a return next year. The sounds of central cee and jack harlow and how popular their songs became have really ruined 2023
My top 5 1. Never Enough- Daniel Caesar 2. To be Eaten Alive- Mariah The Scientist 3. Red Moon in Venus- Kali Uchis 4. Utopia -Travis Scott 5. Scarlet- Doja Cat
you gotta check out king krule if you haven't alr, his album Space Heavy is by far my fav from the year, this album is an alt-rock mix with touches of jazz and it holds such a sad but beautiful sound, also carried by his powerful voice truly like none other.
lol… I’m happy you found the Lemon Twigs been listening to them for years. And I really like Kara Jackson’s album as well… I think Pawnshop might be my favorite track on the album
My top 10 just to show the variety of Shawn cee listeners🤷🏾♂️ 1.lets start here- yachty 2. Larger than life- Brent 3. Ganger- Veeze 4. For All the Dogs 6. Fridayy- Fridayy 6. Lahai- sampha 7. Voir Dire- Earl Sweatshirt 8. Utopia- Travis 9. Nostalgia- Rod Wave 10. Glockoma- Key Glock
To be completely honest, that entire description for Veeze's "Ganger" album sounds like an excuse to discredit people's opinions who didn't enjoy it. To essentially say "This is a regional project, if you didn't grow up in Detroit you're not going to get it" is implying 2 things: 1) Everybody from Detroit who hears this album is going to like it (there can easily be Detroiters who don't fw the album) 2 ) If you're not from that specified region, your opinion on the album is automatically invalidated (if someone from Montana heard the album and loved it, you won't say anything. But if they think it's trash you'll go "Oh you not from Detroit so you don't get it". You can't pick and choose when to say someone's opinion matter and when it doesn't.
1. I didn’t say that lmao. I was referring to there being plenty of references and vocal types of expression more native to the Detroit area that some who’ve given him the criticism “he sounds too sleepy/lacking energy” might not get. 2. I wouldn’t criticize anyone for liking who isn’t from Detroit, but I’d hold a Detroiters opinion in significantly higher regard knowing they at base understand some of the references whether they liked it or not. Everyone’s opinion matters but not everyone’s opinion matters TO ME when speaking on art that makes references to where I’m from and they aren’t and may not get, which is fine.
@@ShawnCee I'm from Detroit too which is the only reason I'm commenting this. I haven't listened to Ganger yet but with your description and review of it, that's the feel I got from your words. That if someone was dogging the album but they wasn't from Detroit you would just go "Ah ✋🏼, you're not from the D so your opinion doesn't matter that much to me". Babyface Ray is an easy example. He completely sounds like he's "too sleepy/lacks energy" on his records. I don't believe me being from Detroit makes that statement more and less valid.
@@AmiriHipHop I'm not saying it does to the average person, I'm speaking for myself. The fact that you're from there will mean more to me by default, whether you like it or not versus someone who isn't from there.
I personally feel like TEC by lil Tecca should be on here. Hands down one of the most cohesive albums I’ve ever listened too. On top of having so many bangers on the album. Super underrated in my opinion

@khailart8858 maps is in 13th place so he clearly doesn't dislike Billy woods maybe he didn't hear the armand hammer album
I was so blown away and so PLEASED with Mick this year, man. I really was a huge fan of his early shit. I love Trees n Truth. And while, I think that’s still my favorite album or tape of his…that might not be the case for long!

Thank you Shawn for putting me into about a dozen more fantastic albums this year!!!!!!
Just watch his second channel
i know Mabe Fratti’s 2022 record resonated with you and i was wondering if you heard Vidrio by Titanic? it’s her with a regular collaborator on the 2022 album playing with kinda sparse, avant-grade jazz elements and it’s really incredible! i think if you enjoyed Se Ve Desde Aquí, you’d really like this one too. anyways, this is a great list and i’m looking forward to listening back to some of the stuff i missed earlier this year that you highlighted here!
Just love seeing Mabe's audience continuing to grow, found her by chance a few years ago when her first album dropped and have loved everything so far.
Thoughts on Meet the Grahams??

@@alikaostermiller guilty but it’s still sick
Surprised Lana’s “Ocean Blvd” didn’t make the cut. That album is amazing
He has an irrational dislike of her even tho ocean blvd completely destroys most of his list
I'm surprised cause it's objectively better than like 90 percent of the albums here😭 one of the most important albums to come out of 2023
@@raurvish so real Lanas album owns Utopia and Kali Uchis especially so hard it's not even close
The Fear of Fear EP by Spirit Box 🔥, Voir Dire and Kara's LP!

Thank you as always for putting me on to the best of the best, Shawn. Feel like I've been playing catch up this whole year listening to old acclaimed projects from artists I'm interested in, but was glad to bump new releases like Lil Yachty, Mick Jenkins and Jorja Smith. Two of my favorite songs this year came from the rock genre and are worth checking out - The Artist In The Ambulance (revisited) by Thrice and Portrait Of A Blank Slate by Lovejoy. I would’ve liked a 50 song list just to hear your take on more projects

W for Lana, crazy how Shawn dislikes her even tho she completely destroys 99% of the artists he likes 😂😂😂
Why are you people so completely unoriginal? Caroline Polacheck, Olivia Rodrigo, Sufjan Stevens, boygenius, 100 gets, Yves Tumor. It's like all youtbers have some sort of mandate to put these people on their year-end lists. Find some different music, for gods sake
@@kramersilver8331 sufjan and Caroline deserve their spots tho but their is some form of truth to that for some reason unlike other mediums ( TV, films, manga, books etc..) people are much more complacent and less likely to expand their music taste
@@kramersilver8331 why are you trying so hard to be different? theyre good music and theyre what i also am into listening. get a life, for gods sake
90% of these artists I’ve never even heard of but imma check out a few. Starting with Kara Jackson.
Shawn we need to see that review on Kendrick light jab at Drake
Go check it on his 2nd channel , shawncee live
MIKE - Burning Desire needed a placement
tbh I love the 50 list. the impatient who just wanna hear your top 10 or whatever will skip but it's nice to have recommendations if there's anything that I/we never got to listen to, so the more the better imo.
Loving that PinkPantheress placement.
The fact that you put Swans in your top made my respect for your taste grow huge levels. My favorite band of all time
Great list! I really enjoyed the Ralphie Choo record this year! R&B-flamenco infused hip-hop with a little bit of reggaeton!
Shawn gotta be one of the most eloquent people out here. I know he probably wrote alot of this beforehand, but flows so smooth.
I had no clue you listened to Swans. Nice one.

Can’t wait for next year’s list to have Music by Carti at #1
I haven’t listened to the Kara Jackson album yet but Shawn really makes me feel like I’m missing out damn.
@@liamlindsay1458 please get both of them off the airwaves😭😭

Always excited for these videos because I get put on to so much music, would love a top 50 next year
SOS by SZA was left off both your 2022 and 2023 lists. I would love to know your thoughts on the project. Its the front runner for all the big awards.
He had a reaction/review for it lol. He thought it was okay and was livid at Rolling Stones for putting it at #1

Do 50 next year its a lot more music for me to check out
the alchemist earl collab album was amzing
To be completely honest, that entire description for Veeze's "Ganger" album sounds like an excuse to discredit people's opinions who didn't enjoy it.
To essentially say "This is a regional project, if you didn't grow up in Detroit you're not going to get it" is implying 2 things:
1) Everybody from Detroit who hears this album is going to like it (there can easily be Detroiters who don't fw the album)
2 ) If you're not from that specified region, your opinion on the album is automatically invalidated (if someone from Montana heard the album and loved it, you won't say anything.
Ay pookie ima need ur thoughts on vultures 1, and new 21 savage while ur at it
He probably won't come back to UA-cam again
where you at shawn
He doesn’t like making UA-cam videos. More effort, less money. So he made a new channel to post his twitch streams, which is basically this, but worse editing.
WHY DONT YOU REVIEW MUSIC ANYMORE BRO I WANTED TO SEE UR REACTION TO THIS NEW 21
Shawn and fantano putting Paramore in their top 25 brings me joy
Sampha did deliver I love that album
