what a powerful, emotional performance. at first i didn't pay special attention to this song but then i saw the video of it on their site and now this... este and alana's taking over brings the suspense which makes danielle's vocal entrance explode! wow! my mind is blown. i also love the part where A and E are singing while D shreds away, like even in song she's the one who doesn't like to communicate in the traditional vocal way. god i'm high.
wow! I love how they did that. Este went first and it's sweet and soft and she's like..."I'VE GOT THE POWER!" And then Alana comes in and it's all painful and deep and she's like...."Yes! That's right! I can sing too bitches mwahaha!" but then it builds up tension so when it's Danielle's time to sing she just goes BOOM! Explosion! Her voice is like I am angry and I am pissed to what you have done and then theres that hint of pain near the end and she's like, "BOOM! SHIT JUST GOT REAL!!"
This has always been my favorite song of the album, so soulful. So if you guys liked this performance I suggest you go and check out the one from 2013. It's incredible.
Watching these live performances really highlight to me how over-produced their album is. The performances are impressive and their talent is undeniable but in comparison to the perfectly polished presentation piece of the album, the grit just sounds "off" when it shouldn't. The album is an impressive piece as well and I love it but I wish I had discovered HIAM the way I discovered other bands: live first.
I’ve listened to their second album studio and live versions, and it’s so much better live. They probably do it more towards the pop realm in the studio to appeal to the masses, whereas their live performances, in my opinion, are who they truly are.
Breath support is 90% of singing. They were probably really hyped up, maybe a little nervous, and definitely out of breath. They did fabulous, considering.
