So many cool advances in technology from this era that carried over well into the 80's. If I owned one of these bikes I'd definitely upgrade to the scorpion style clutch design.

When I put big bikes like that on the work stand I have ratchet straps going to I bots in the ceiling and hook them to the frame and since them snug so no matter what happens the bike can't fall of the table.

Tatro got jokes apparently. Looking for more than $0.02 for the vintage tires. Your customer did not seem impressed by your sarcasm. Keep it up!

That's a Shovelhead left case. The VIN starts, 66...
CORRECTION: engine number, not VIN. Though "back in the day" the engine number was the VIN.
66FL... is a Shovel number. The last Pan was in '65.

Drift If you freeze the frame and magnify it, you’ll see it is a 65 VIN. I thought the same thing, but if you look closely, the numbers are different. Must be some oil or debris around it. Jealous of this find!

Hey Tatro I've got a question for you and I'm asking you for a couple of reasons 1 is that you are a honest person who has been around and building hopped up Harley engines for years and secondly you definitely don't hold anything back you're 100% no bullshit which is hard to find... here's my question.. I've got a 08 softail deluxe and I've found a older guy who is a few hours away from me who wants to trade me a flh shovelhead that hes owned for several decades and says that he's getting too old to ride the ol girl all the time like he wants to and wants a newer bike and the nicer ride they have. He's got a folder with all the receipts and records of the history of the bike. It's got a professionally built s&s 96 kit in it... do you think that it's a good deal for me and what do you know about the 96 kit for the shovelhead engine. How reliable is it going to be and is it something that I'm going to spend more time wrenching on than riding. This bike is my dream bike as everyone was riding shovels when I was young and fell in love with Harleys. Thanks for any input you offer

if tat is what you want than go for it. if not, than pass on it. all i can say is go ride the bike for a few minutes and see if you like it. the 96ci motor is a vibrating pig with lots of fast power. this is not a high mileage touring type motor. 30k is about it for normal fast riding, not racing.

@@TatroMachine thanks tatro your opinion is what I asked for and its what I got... I think that I'd be better off buying a frame and building one from the ground up with my 10 year old son and 12 year old daughter. Hopefully getting you to build me a badass shovelhead that will kick ass and last

that would be your new m8 harley. panhead and shovelheads are probably more in the 700 lbs area.

@@TatroMachine the 65 is definitely lighter than a new M8. I own both. I have owned my 65 for about 25 years. I have watched every video you have done on the yellow 65 and the blue one years ago. Thanks for all of your videos. They really help.
