I bought the same one guitar under summer 2019 in Sweden for around EUR 700,00 new. It is a Les paul studio tribute made in USA actually and not a "Les paul tribute". In my case the guitar came perfectly set out of the box, and the quality was at the top. This is an amazing sounding/playing guitar.

Good video - thanks. By the way: this is NOT a Tribute, it is a 2019 Studio Tribute in Satin Tobacco burst. This is made in USA and the special thing is, that it has dot inlays instead of trapezoid. This has great 490R / 490T Humbuckers and the guitar sounds very well. Some online shops have it now for 777 Euro which is a fantastic price for this guitar. List was 1199 Euro.
It’s made in USA rosewood fingerboard and my fret ends were done so well from the factory my son and I both were taken aback by how nice they were. Because poker chips on LP’s are SG Tribute is everything you need and nothing you don’t. Nice guitar very solid
I've never had a serious issue with any of my Gibsons over the past 25 years of collecting. Including this model and some of my low end favorites like the LPJ models.

It is made in USA. I have the same guitar. Same finish as well. As I make guitars (at a higher level than this guitar) I still can’t fault it. The build quality on mine is absolutely shocking to be fair but nothing I can’t fix as a luthier. BUT !!! When I plug it into an amp and just play !!. Still beats the hell out of any epiphone les Paul. It sounds amazing and it just feels so nice to play. I didn’t have any fret issues with mine, just a shocking finish really over the fret board area. The Tuners won’t last too long but I’ll upgrade for the same stuff that goes on my guitars. Personally I’m happy to say I have a Gibson guitar in my personal collection. Side note I’ve played custom shop Gibson les Paul’s with the same QC issues. Don’t sound any different to my £800 tribute. If you really want a great great guitar for under £2000. Just buy one of mine 👍🏻 Drew Parry guitars.
For fitting the poker chip the y shaped spanner has one side for tightening and one side for loosening so it will grab just fine you gotta use the correct side 😉
Dave, just checking in for the first time. I just posted my own Strat setup video and I was so happy to see you mentioned the exact nut to first fret height of .020"-.018'. I've just taken on the chore of trying to make nuts. I usually just try to make the old ones I have sitting around, work, by shimming or sanding. I'm embarrassed to say after all these years, I always tried to set them lower. But when I saw that those were Fender specs, I set my Strat up that way and the guitar played so much better down at the nut. I bend strings a lot down there and always had to fight them because they were too low.
The new Gibsons didn't have poker chips. People wanted them so they started throwing them in the package. I had to buy mine as it was prior to them doing this. Obviously I like the poker chip. Yes, it was a nervous time removing the nut from the switch as I don't have that cool tool. The gooch was lurking but I beat it.
Love the use of the QC photo as a feeler! In one moment, we get Dave's disdain for the photo BS the fact the photo ain't worth shit and it's used as evidence of the set up mess.
I have this model, bought new. One small issue, that it has some small long snag under the headstock, which could be easily removed on the factory, but seems like guys from Gibson, thought it will be hidden under laquier. But it is not. Other than that, guitar is perfect. Looks like normal Gibson guitar for rock&metal, without extra blinks, trapezoids, thick laquier. For any price from LP-line, i would choose exact this model for looks and comfort. Made from one peace of mahogony, 2-pieced maple, perfect neck profile (maple). Guitar is very comfortable and sounds amazing. Even without being connected to the amp, it resonates perfectly. Powerful pickups, so i can get any sound i need, from clean tones through crunchy to very heavy. PS I'm Fender guy, but last months i'm using olny this Gibson LP Tr:)
My 2019 standard is flawless. As were the 15+ I tested out before picking this one. My 2018’s were a different story. I think they are getting way better. My USA fender had two unseated high frets and a horribly cut nut. Every guitar factory puts out good and bad guitars, bashing on Gibson is just popular
@Into The Mystery - Nahh. It's not because it's popular. That's an overused and tired excuse. It's because Gibson is cutting corners left and right because of greed at the executive level. Smart and shrewd guitarists can see that. They're not dazzled by the name on a headstock which tends to dampen one's perception. Gibson has entirely made the bed they now lay in. I have one from the same year and my guitar pic is from the same work bench at Gibson i thought it was the same pic for a minute!but couple of things differ spooky!

I have several Gibson over the years and all has been fine. That damn G string was messed up i guess it’s common problem for Gibson’s. I’d tune it strum and boing out of tune! I was pissed when my Luthier said new nut 🥜
Sharp fret ends happens due to shrinking fretboard wood and is usually a problem caused by the store by not having proper humidity in the showroom or warehouse. Even for Gibson, guitars with sharp fret ends would never leave the US plant. From all the stores I've seen in my entire life not even a hand full really cared about humidity and temperature.
I had a Tribute in Honeyburst and it never came with the poker chip installed or the option to put one on. Probably the original LP's never had one. Also mine had covered pickups.

@@kirkdesmond DING DING DING! lol, I also have my issues with the prices they charge. Many of the items can be bought at Valu, Home Depot or Harbor Freight and at a fraction of StewMac's prices. But, it's not any different going to a car parts store. It's just objectionable. I overheard a manager in a car dealership repair shop tell a worker to charge a replacement part a 300% mark-up. Having worked retail for years, I raised holy shit about that, sure, they double the price normally, you gotta pay workers and overhead, but you don't steal. Especially since the repair shops charge labor too. I have a deep hatred of thieves after I stole some coins from my Dad at 5 years old, he taught me the hard way to not steal again. People often wonder why epiphone has better quality (from the Korean factory) over the us made guitars well I read that the average luthier in Korea has been working on guitars for 30 years where the US factory is like 16 years. It makes a big difference
Which store was this guitar purchased from? Usually I buy from a local music store, try the guitar out before the purchase... I got a good one. was made sept 30 2019 very happy with my Gibson Les Paul. sounds amazing through my Marshall. Amazing!
What was that socket wrench you used for the tone switch?
11:17 the reason why the poker chip are not installed is they don't match color of pickup rings and pickguard
Thousands of dollars and they can't get colored plastic to match. lol
I had a Tribute in Honeyburst and it never came with the poker chip installed or the option to put one on. Probably the original LP's never had one. Also mine had covered pickups.
Don't wound strings have a solid wire core?...
The only song you're gonna be playing on that out of the box is, Welcome To My Nightmare.............Whoa,oh,oh,oh!!!!!!!!
I can see a UA-cam premium service happening.

Super Comments From The Master. Unspeakable That Dave Must Be Enlisted To “Sort Out This Instrument !. Oh Dear Gibson !. Get A Grip !. Kindest Regards From Scotland.
Where do you get those fret files from Dave?
Don't make him say it, He doesn't like them very much ;-)
@@Damaged262 Stu Mac?
I'm 56 now, I suspect my ass is still red. StewMac steals, it's that simple. I've made dozens of tools they sell, for pennies on the dollar based on their prices.
@@Damaged262 Understood. Those special fret end files sure are sweet, but my big box store doesn't carry those.
@@kirkdesmond Understood. I'm fortunate to have a grinding wheel, probably cheaper than the special file at Stew Mac for the file alone, and made my own from a cheap as hell file. If your hands aren't steady, like mine are no longer, I used a high chair, not kidding, to keep my hand steady with a towel to cup my arm. My basement workshop looks weirder than Pee Wee Hermans house.
And as part of the purchase, the store guitar technical wizard does a clean, new strings, and full setup. I would not buy a guitar from the store this one came from, nor would I buy a new guitar off the internet.
Mine tribute needed serious work on the neck and fretboard to make it nice. Bad QC at gibson, but i have to say, the guitar now is one of my best playable and sounding guitar i had in 30 years
I wanted a tribute not anymore
Can you polish up guitar paint that’s yellowed over the years? 2002 Strat

Enjoyed this vid Dave. Not sure I understand about the interactive part. are you saying you won't be able to respond here or that we would be able to respond to each other or that thre just won't be any way to comment period? Thanks
Hey Dave - I came across an interesting Historical fact while watching a documentary on the British Supermarine Spitfire of WWII fame ....... the Works Manager at Supermarine just before (and during) WWII was a Mr. Len Gooch and he was awarded the O.B.E. ................. I about dropped my teeth ................... ;-p
Fret ends not being done just ain't cool. Good job and thanks for the video
What thickness are your wrenches that you measure pickup height with?
No interactive comments!?!?!?! When and where do we switch over?
Dave, more and more guys are taking the poker chip off the toggle switch, cause it looks better without it, but mainly not necessary anymore of course. I guess it was good to have in the late 50's in Les Paul introduction to the world?
So, that adjustable socket at 10mins, what might she be called? Searched for 'adjustable hex socket' and 'adjustable hex wrench' but no joy. Any idea what the correct name is? Thx all
