Hey, I just found your channel, your channel seems interesting but it seems you haven’t posted in a couple of years and your accounts were deleted, you okay?
If you add up the price of a third party hub + 45w charger and usb-c cable, its pretty much the same as the cost of the official steam deck dock (that comes with a charger and cable).
Thanks for watching the video! Like I said, if you already have a replacement charger (I had a USB-C charger for my laptop already, and I know a lot of people who own spares) then it doesn't make sense to spend $80 for yet ANOTHER charger.
You seem to be missing the point of the steam deck dock. It supports dual displays and has first party firmware updates straight from valve. Also, third party docks tend to have compatibility issues.
Read the official steam deck dock forums. A lot of people have problems with the official steam dock which doesn't let them connect their steam deck to their tv, while a third party dock has no problems at all.. The official one seems to have more compatibility issues than third party docks. Also, the dual display support is yet to come.

I’ve heard in a YT video, that some docks may damage the SteamDecks battery… Similar issuses were reported years ago with the Nintendo Switch and third party power adapters. Apparently Power Delivery ports are not always made the same… What’s your take on this?
There's no evidence right now that docks mess with the Steam Deck battery, the Switch had issues because it uses a proprietary configuration of USB C, but the Steam Deck does not
Bullcrap. I started off with a Jsaux dock. It screwed up my surround sound system when plugged in via hdmi into my LG oled. I tried to update the firmware in the dock but couldnt get it to work. Then I bought the official dock. Updated right throught the Steam Deck. Everything works. That alone is worth buying the official dock.
Jsaux has acknowledged problems with their Docks and LG TV's specifically, and there is a way to update the firmware now. Let me know if you'd like a vid on that!
great video thanks for the info! I can't get the steam deck to show windows on a external display, how did you get it to work? i'm using the iVoler Dock
I also found the Dell Thunderbolt docks and similar ones a while ago, though they all share the flaw of needing an external power brick. I wish there was a smaller one with lower usb-c supplied power, so it isn't practically glued to the desk. I found a usb4 one that seems discontinued sadly.
Honestly, a few weeks ago Ive been almost through all videos regarding usb-c-docks for the Deck. After my own experiences with docks from Amazon, all your information is 100% correct and insightful for new buyers. I have the Jsaux dock - and I had to widen the gap myself to make my Deck plus case fit in. Keep it up!
I'm currently using an HP USB-C dock Gen 4. It has two DisplayPort connectors and HDMI, 4 USB-A and 1 USB-C port as well as Ethernet and audio. Although the cable sticks up pretty high and isn't all that flexible.
That Dell you have believe it or not is the one that can connect it to the (Nreal air augmented glasses) with the steam deck I can plug the steam deck into it and plug in a controller and have the glasses plugged into that Dell and can just lay on the couch without even touching the steam deck and watch my gameplay using the glasses no monitor needed in this gaming session the glasses can go up to around 95 Hertz or so so if you're in desktop mode you can go past 60 in the glasses
I really feel you should try it even if for content and make a conclusion because I think the Deck dock is the best carry along for a full desktop setup on the go, please consider maybe checking it out at some point
It's just less convenient, say you (like me) have a pair of desk speakers you like to use. Being able to cable manage everything and just plug in the Deck to the Dock is really nice.
i got a 9 in 1 hub and long usb 3.2 gen 1 (it does 4k 60hz) extension cord that is connected to my steam deck so i get to use the deck as player 1 while docked on my 4k tv and it is the best setup i could ever ask for lol - so for 4 players i’d only need 3 controllers which is cool
I'd rather let Steam know I support their handheld by purchasing their dock, than just saving myself 30 bucks. I've been very please with Steam this go around.
The Steam Deck dock is basically doing the same thing the Steam Machines are doing a few years ago, it allows third party manufacturers to make money off their own dock with Valve. Valve did say a few years ago that the Steam Machines was a mistake and that they are planning to retry it again but in a different way, the Steam Deck is that different way. Taking a page from Nintendo, this time Valve handles the hardware and OS whereas third party handles only the display options whereas before third party basically does their own thing whereas Valve only handles the OS. I say their new plan works almost perfectly.
Thank you for the informative video. Just a suggestion - consider locking the exposure (aperture, frame rate, iso), your camera seemed to be varying it throughout the video and I found it a bit distracting.
I agree to disagree, the Steam Deck Dock has advantages, for one, it receives firmware updates by Valve that are easy to install and also, by ordering it you receive a second charger, identical to the one that came with your deck. Also, I don't need to have that many devices connected to my Deck in docked mode, I have one 2.4 Ghz dongle for my xbox controllers, all running of the same dongle and maybe an external hard-drive, that way I still have one free USB port. And the biggest reason for me, it's from Valve, not some company I never heard before, well at least before the Steam Deck came out, I just trust Valve more in regards of quickly fixing an issue and also having good RMA policies, 99€ I think is a good deal. 3:07 You don't need to change the desktop resolution, just change the game settings.
I agree with your complaints. I would add not to buy any dock that is only good for the Steam Deck, find one you can use with your phone, laptop, and deck then add a small stand or case. The only reason Switch Dock was okay was because the console had it included in the price and package. What I would like to see is the mCable used with steam + a dock. Does it take some of the load off the deck? Now if that was built into the steam deck dock or had additional storage built in, then I would buy it. Add: I hope Valve doesn't do what Nintendo did and release an update that bricks people's deck because they used a third party dock. That's one reason why I am worried about non-oem docks.
I highly doubt Valve would brick compatibility with third-party docks, they've made a lot of pro consumer moves and that would be very out of character. However, I agree that whatever dock people buy should be versatile enough to use with more than one device. No unitaskers in my kitchen!
My ideal dock would have amongst all the other stuff like a display port and USB 3, an additional 2 USB C's combined PD & Data, all of these docks use up the USB C just for charging its capable of so much more and with so many new peripherals being USB C you are faced with the choice of Charge, or USB C peripheral. as a quick example I have NReal AR glasses which are powered by the device you are plugged into as they have no internal battery. using it with the steam destroys battery time i know there are split usb leads that would do the job but we are talking about Docks.
I e been waiting for a dock with displayport so I can start playing around with my index on the steamdeck. There are pitifully few videos on UA-cam of anyone trying this
Yea like you I feel the same on the official dock. It works as intended agreed but my use case its not holding up. But I completely understand as a consumer this was were valve intended to make a profit per unit sold I went in knowing that but still feel very underwhelmed with its actual support.
@@Skipti_LLC Firstly, the power circuit is doggy as f on the jsaux, there were reports on voltages not negotiating correctly. Secondly, it is guaranteed that they skim on their components being a chinese company, it's nothing new yet people never learn their lesson.
Not a bad Vid but I thought you would have gone deeper into comparing the Docks up against one another. I am (wow) just like you. I play my Steam Deck Docked more than on the Go. And used the same exact Dell Dock (as you) that I found for $5 at a thrift Store. Its amazing Like you said Audio out and also charges the Deck. I did get the official Steam Deck Dock. The reason was that at the time The shipping for the Jsaux was 2 weeks the same as the valve and that was the only one that I wanted over the Offical dock. Also, the Dock is officially supported by Valve and is updated to include more support and features as time goes on. This is all handled through Steam and all the user needs to hit update. With other 3rd parties you'll need to go through the downloading and installing process which may include jumping into desktop mode. This may be to cumbersome for most users. Also, the Dock does come with the same power cable that the Steam Deck comes with so I like you said no need to unplug and replug.
I didn't feel the need to compare the JSAUX and Funalot docks to each other because I'm pretty sure they use the exact same board internally for the I/O.
Hmm i mean, sure but in this video the title is a bit misleading, sure the SD does not need the main dock, and even valve themself, claimed that the offer came as an option, a dock is a dock, just as easy as that even if it costs good money its on my own decision to spend for it, like whatever really it may be expesive, but still but better than if we had no other option, like for example valve could lock usb out to not output anything with thirdparties like apple with lightning long time ago. In this case just say something like "cheaper alternative dock you can use on your steam deck" or something that way it'd be more to elaborate the statement. Well still, thanks for letting people know at least.
?? I don't really see your point. Is it misleading to say "Don't buy this, buy something else"? Also I never said you don't need a dock, you just don't need the expensive one from Valve
@@Skipti_LLC huh? Reread what i said, its just like what you said at the end, but in a way to not disregard valves dock, i did not ever say that its misleading to say buy something else, but your title and thumbnail just looked that way to me. Well end of discussion if my message does get to you smh.
Steam will and already releases updates directly for the Dock separately, the thing is much more than a USB stand. Don't be mad sir, not in bad meaning - but you're talking nonsenses. If I invest (already on the way) in the best type, it's no problem to buy ORIGINAL accessories... I'd be a stupid if I buy anything else.
this video has to be a troll. The way you use your deck, it has the same cost, usage, and portability of a budget gaming laptop but far less convenient and really nonsensical. You are purposely avoiding all the advantages of a steam deck while making the experience worse. Ive never seen anyone use their deck like this. Everyone can use their hardware however they want yet that dont change how goofy u must be
1. I didn't say I never used the Deck in handheld mode, just that I prefer using a mouse and keyboard MOST of the time. I still play platformers, indie games, etc. in handheld mode because why use a controller when the Deck already has one? 2. Can you find a gaming laptop for $400 that matches the Steam Deck's performance?
@@Skipti_LLC 1.for a normal user, $400 dollars is amazing for a pc handheld gaming device that can play most games and got arguably the best handheld controls. But let's go with your set up instead since I'm critiquing you not the deck which is amazing. Lets say you do have the $400 dollar model which I doubt. Lets add the dell $200 dollar dock (its 200 bucks when on sale). Ur keyboard, $120. Thats already $720. Lets not forget the mouse, the case, the stand, and ur audio mixer. Now let's look at budget gaming laptops. You got a g15 for $750 with 256gb, rtx 3050, and an i5 12500H. Easily faster than a deck. 2. You got to understand I believe the deck is amazing. I simply cant understand your use case. Like I said, u can use it however u want but in my eyes you are extra goofy. If I saw my mate do this I would flame them but ultimately it does not matter. Lots of portable PCs are out there just like portable Androids, Linux, and emulation handhelds too but the cheapest and most powerful right now is the Steam Deck. Second to that is either the AYN Odin, GPD Win 3, or the Anbernic Win600 but there's no guaranteed if you'll get the same great service from Anbernic, AYN, or GPD like the Steam Deck.
I've bought an Ivoler 6 in 1
Where did you get that hoodie, i love it!!??
It's the Shortcircuit hoodie from Linus Tech Tips's merch store.
i was just curious, are you still on opera?
Absolutely! I switched from a Windows machine to a Mac recently, and Opera is still my browser of choice.
@@Skipti_LLC im going to try it out for a couple of weeks and see how i end up!
Good work once again.
Thank you! Cheers!
awww I love the cats at the end 😇
welcome to swags team
thank you alot
this video is all over the place
What you mean
About not buying the dock, i know it might not be your idea, but really to me it just looks like you were trying to disregard the dock due to the high price, but then again if a person has the money and just likes the official dock then its an option so you could just phrase it some other way, thats all, its not like i think what you are doing is smh bad.
@@Skipti_LLC
1.for a normal user, $400 dollars is amazing for a pc handheld gaming device that can play most games and got arguably the best handheld controls.
Steam decks are pretty lit
I do have the $400 dollar version, watch my video about upgrading the deck if you'd like to see how much storage I have in it. And all of my stuff was either second hand craigslist deals or pawn shops, plus you can't say the dock and the peripherals add up to the price of a replacement laptop? I would dock a laptop as well, that's what I do with my editing laptop (Mac). And yes, Steam Decks are lit. I love the deck, just not the official Dock.
Having that loud beep as your intro is the dumbest choice you can make
Man you literally complain about every little thing lmao
Feel free to look up the definition of "reviewer" for me
Dont buy the steam deck at all lol.
You must be new around here...
oh you must have a better alternative then i see
oh wait you dont
NEXT!!!!
nice joke
Lots of portable PCs are out there just like portable Androids, Linux, and emulation handhelds too but the cheapest and most powerful right now is the Steam Deck. Second to that is either the AYN Odin, GPD Win 3, or the Anbernic Win600 but there's no guaranteed if you'll get the same great service from Anbernic, AYN, or GPD like the Steam Deck. You could also get the AYA Neo 2, AYA Neo Air, Pyra Dragon Box, GPD Win 4, or the OneXPlayer but those are super expensive.
