Fact: there used to be fruit on Taco Bell’s menu in the form of a dessert called caramel apple empanada. It was basically a fried apple pie with caramel and it was amazing. My soul was crushed the day I discovered they no longer had it.
Yeah all they have is some stupid cinnamon ball crap and cina twists
I couldn't agree with these statements more
They still have them tho they so nice
SAME I WAS SO FUCKING SAD WHEN THEY REMOVED IT. IT WAS MY CHILDHOOD DESERT.
Taco bell removes everything they had that was good.
You know the saying "I'm so hungry I could eat a horse"? Well, how hungry do you actually have to be to eat a horse? How much of a horse is edible? How long would it take the average person to eat one, and can a single person even manage to eat an entire horse before it goes bad?
that's what freezers are for
I like this idea!
@@dmerritt4ever freezers prolongue the lifetime of a food, doesn't make it infinite
I think that old show Mansers did that. Turns out horses don't have too much edible meat. Like ten pounds? So you'd only need a few really big meals to do it.
This needs to be an episode now.
I have never gotten sick from Taco Bell. This was very interesting and informative. Thank you MatPat.
I got food poisoning
It's because Taco Bell's force there workers to sell products that's expired sometimes to save on food cost. It's bad man.
I've never gotten sick but I've definitely had toilet speed runs the only restaurant that has almost killed me(for now) was Chipotle.
Bro same! It's so weird people get sick from it! This is a very informative video! :D
Gotta love food theory :)
I get sick from Taco Time all the time though, very weird. He should do a video about that next!
Taco Bell has oddly never made me sick. If there’s any fast food chain that has made me sick, it’s Popeyes.
Tacobell used to be cheap is the thing that kept me going. Now, two meals cost us $17. The wraps that used to be .79 are priced at $2.49. They do have the $5 boxes, but no cinnamon twists with them now. Many other fast food places offer $5 bundles too. I know inflation and all but that was also happening years ago and Taco Bell was the only affordable option then. I mean two people eating good for less than $10 affordable.
Just started eating at taco bell again after many years without because of the $2 burritos that's good deal these days
Financial vampirism fr fr
Naw man I worked at a Taco Bell when you commented this, and the cinnamon twists were part of the five dollar cravings box. Maybe that changes by location
Cravings box is $6 and includes two decently big items, a side, and drink. More than enough for a meal. Two of those is $12 so it’s not a bad price.
"Now, two meals cost us $17." That is cheap for fast food. Every other option is at least double that at this point.
The American diet is very low in fiber. If you suddenly eat beans, a high fiber food, you might get loose stool.
Ya
True
The American diet needs more veggies and fruit too.
I actually eat beans alot, rice and beans is something I eat commonly. No problems, I make it myself. But I started working at taco Bell, and I decided to eat a burrito, because I was hungry and had nothing else. Boy was that a mistake. I didn't get "The Runs" It just made my stomach hurt. I honestly think it's the Red Sauce™(®?) Maybe lmao. Never touching their food again regardless.
Like most fast food, it's heavily processed, so that's another factor for sure.

Hello sir
Hey Matt, sort of a tame Food Theory question for you, "Why do some things taste better at different temperatures (I.E. why do some drinks/foods taste better cold and others taste better hot)"?
Some of the reasons are either because it gets rid of bacteria, it is yeast based thereby is chemically shifting through heat or because how carbonation works as it separate the actual carbon from the drink
80% of taste is smell, and different smelly things give off more smell at different temperatures (think of the difference between boiling water, and oil. same idea, but evaporation, not boiling).
Water would be a good one to include, for some odd reason, water only tastes good cold...
@@JamesTDG I like cool/room-temp water. Too cold and it hurts, too warm and it's disgusting.
That's not really a theory though, at least not in the context of what the channel is about. You're seeking an explanation for an observation, like asking why the sky is blue during the day and not at night. This video is about an "if" or "is", as in if there is actually something unique to Taco Bell that causes digestive distress. The fact that it seems to affect your bowels in general is already regularly observed. A slightly better question for your theory would be something more specific like "Do sodas actually taste better cold?"
As for your actual question, it's mostly about how the physical properties of the foods change as they heat/cool, and not the temperature itself. Oily or fatty foods may congeal or solidify as they cool, and a soda will lose carbonation as it warms up. A reheated tray of nachos won't taste the same as freshly made, despite being the same temperature and having all the same ingredients. The heating and cooling cycles change the physical (and to a lesser extent chemical) properties.

7:03 "And what not" THATS NORWEGIAN CHOCOLATE AND ITS SOOO GOOD😂 never thought id find that in a food theory video😂
As a Mexican I am thankful Mat Pat said “loosely inspired Mexican menú” because you would not see any of that on any real Mexican restaurant.
My husband is mexican, and so I've had real mexican food quite a lot, and his mother and extended family have all shared foods at events plenty of times. Some of it does feel close, conceptually. But he says he prefers Jack in the Box's tacos when he wants a fast food taco. I don't see the difference quite as much between Taco Bell and Jack. It's still a taco... But yeah, all of it definitely stands out as american versions of mexican food, without even a hint of authenticity.
Wait Taco Bell isn't real Mexican food? 🌮🔔
@@himura-miki I think it also depends from where they are from, because north, center and south Mexico have super different food techniques so not even we know all of our cultural food. For example if your husband is from close to the border then yes his style will be very similar to Taco Bell. But just going a little south you face yourself with a thousand differences. I haven’t been to taco Bell, but I went to a similar one here in Quebec called Quesada and you can notice the differences. Also by watching the menu on this video it is not close enough to mexican cuisine.
Its not real mexican, its tex mex, inspired but its own thing
No sane human being that has tasted mexican food says that taco bell is authentic
I definitely have too much time on my hands - I counted. Here's the results:
It was said 32 times, 34 if we count 'diarrheaness'
It was on screen 67 times, 5 more times with wrong spelling, 1 more for british spelling, 1 more in the powerpoint presentation and 2 more for the same frame being used twice
So in total it was in the video 99 times, or 110 times if we count the edge cases

My sister can't eat gluten, dairy, or eggs. Taco Bell has been one of the only places she can easily order food, because she can ask for a crunchy taco without cheese. The rest of us, as a result, end up eating there a lot as well. I think my colon has given up hope at this point.
Why don't you just cook food at home? Food prep is a thing. You can make super cheap meals that taste really good. I had roommates who had celiac and the other was vegan, which basically is what you described.

In Mexico, they're labeled as American restaurants. Tbf, it is more "Tex-Mex", and not even good Tex-Mex.
It's American food pretending to be authentic Mexican food.
@@ecec6852 yea
@@ecec6852 It's not even pretending, tbh.
I just ate Taco Bell,oh no.
People that are used to having a poor diet typically don't get sick from taco bell. I know from experience. I used eat like trash. Whenever I would eat Taco Bell, I never got sick. After changing my diet for the better, I ate Taco bell again after many years and I felt awful afterwards. My son has always eaten a fairly healthy diet. As much as I could help anyway. When he ate taco bell he threw up afterwards. I think it also has to do with locations operations (How clean the store is), how old the food is that you are being served at the time, and how the food has been handled.
Edit: P.S. like mentioned in the video, it is all fast food that does the body this way. Not just Taco Bell. Hence why they say fast food is junk food.
I've heard some people claim that if a nuclear explosion went off, there would be a certain range from the blast in which a frozen pizza would be cooked to perfection. Is this true? And if so, what would that range be?
Not true at all, Kyle Hill did a youtube video on that (as well as slapcooking a chicken and million lions versus the sun) and long story short is that at one arbitrary distance it will get completely burnt to a crisp like a sitcom ruined-thanksgiving-turkey trope and just one pizza diameter past that it's still raw enough to refuse eating it (the radiation is going to be bad enough, you don't want to make things worse by inducing food poisoning too).
@@matthewlofton8465 you wouldn't need to put it one pizza diameter away cause you could put it sideways and use plasic wrap to keep the toppings from falling off so you can more precisely position the pizza and if you surrounded the pizza in metal it would block radioactive material form hitting the pizza while still letting heat through
Conventional knowledge would say that the short window makes cooking impossible - sufficient temperature to cook any depth properly in that tiny amount means anything closer to the surface will be burnt and anything deeper will nit be penetrated by the heat.
In other words, it's the standard '300° for 10 minutes/3000° for 1 minute' joke.

I think you just made me watch an entire ad before I realized it was an actual ad...even though you stated that it was, indeed, an ad at the very beginning of the ad. I'm, suddenly, questioning my entire existence.
I dont know if you ever made this follow up video but it was interesting that you mentioned FODMAPs. I suffer from IBS which is a sensitivity to some FODMAPs. not everyone reacts the same to all fodmaps and your reaction can change over time. Also interesting that FODMAPs are incorporated differently into products in different countries. High fructose corn syrup is uncommon in Australia which we call soft drink. In australia, generally, soft drinks/ soda just use regular glucose or corn syrup. But carbonation also effects gut motility, I can drink a soft Drink from an Australian fast food restaurant and tolerate it better than a bottled or canned soft drink. Also to work out which FODMAPs I was sensitive to and how much I had to exclude all fodmaps from my diet for a long time and then reintroduce them as they build up in your system over time. I can have a glass of milk one day but if I have it two days in a row it will not go down as well. Also hard cheeses contain very little lactose compared to most other dairy products FODMAPs are incredibly complex and it would be awesome to see some more awareness out there as I'm sure there are a lot of people suffering from these sensitivities who have no idea what is causing their issues. To actually go down the road of getting a diagnosis I had be suffering so badly that I was in terrible pain on an almost daily basis and ended up in hospital with unexplained gut pians a few times.

7:03 that chocolate bar is from a Norwegian chocolate company and I was quickly able to recognize it due to the packaging.(the words on the packaging basically says "milkchocolate" the small print under says "a little slice of Norway") They make a lot of different chocolates and other sweet things. I live in Norway and just thought it be interesting to mention.
Kaiser was my dogs name- idk wny I had to mention that but. 😂
I’m a Chinese Canadian, and I don’t know why I wanted to mention that. 😆😆😆
Was scrolling trough the comments to see if someone pointed it out 😀
I’ve never had a problem with Taco Bell, I was actually scared to eat it for awhile because of how bad my friends made after Taco Bell sound. But I gave in, during a binge session, and it….did absolutely nothing to my stomach. And still had perfectly normal bowel movement later.
same, but I think that has to do with the fact that I'm not a fan of spicy foods and that I absolutely hate beans, so
Also don't have any issues with taco bell, but am also not a fan of spicy food and am allergic to beans
Same here I also hate beans but I like spicy food
I got food poisoning from Taco Bell
yea i think Laxtives are the answer for the taco bell's secret its in most people's food it helps you poop but i think a certain amount makes you have diarrhea and Taco bell have it in most people's tacos
If you do the real world test probably best to call it "Taco Twos-day" 😂
1:13 I don’t think that’s a hotdog😂
I really want to see the video comparing Taco Bell to actual traditional Mexican food, because Taco Bell menu event tho is inspired in Mexican food, as a Mexican, I can notice a huge, really big difference in the taste and how it affects me (plus btw, we don't add many stuff to a Taco, normally it's just meat) I mean, here, we eat a lot of beans and salsa, a lot of salsa, in different foods. And it isn't common to have diarrhea while eating normally, so it will be interesting to see this. Great video!
I like Poco Locos more
That’s a good idea 👍
I’m pretty sure it’s because of the cheese
I mean I'm Mexican and we eat Mexican food pretty often ( obviously) my ma makes all the food and idk if its just that we got used to it but we've never had any stomach issues even when the food is really spicy we went to Chipotle once tho and my little brother and I threw up so idk

I think seeing MatPat put the taco bell theory to the test will be a "blast".
Xd
Bahaha
I just hope he's careful. I don't want him at the hospital cause he had too many trips to the bathroom.
Theory and Gura crossover inbound.
A baha blast

He went in with the food 😂😂😂
Can you do a theory on what the mystery flavor of air heads or do all skittles taste the same
The reason I prefer the American spelling of words over the British spelling of words is because when I'm trying to tweet something on Twitter I'm only allowed so many characters.
Also American spelling just makes more sense
Fun fact! The reason that words are spelled differently is because of news printers! Back when they were a big thing, it was expensive to use ink to prints thousands of papers, so in order to save money, editors cut out certain letters in words such as the “u” in “flavour, humour, labour, and neighbour.”
@@operatorplays5095 well I think they should have redesigned the word neighbor entirely naybor or nabor would be way better. If speech to text didn't exist I wouldn't know how to spell neighbor to save my life.
0:52 Here in New Zealand, Australia and the UK, it's spelt Diarrhoea.
British city names be like shwhhshshwhahahjhwhjskskwkwksksshshsjshshshshwauzjsujssujahshuaiwsjshjwjzjjsjwjskohshshhgwshire
I'm just here to say that, as a Mexican myself, watching foreigners consuming actual Mexican food is like, a national sport at this point so yeah, do that video!!!!. And alos, hats (sombreros?) off to you for remembering Taco Bell is as close to actual Mexican food as Dan Brown's books are close to actual history.
true
Even the restaurants that claim to have Mexican food often get it wrong here in the states, the only time I actually had what I would honestly call authentic Mexican food was when I was working at a job where I had a lot of Latino people as co-workers, and I was fortunate enough to get an invite to the party and meal they put on for the baby shower of one of our co-workers. Everything had been prepped and waiting half the day, was mostly reheated in the microwave or in Crock-Pots. and it was *still* the best Mexican food experience I've ever had!
@@chronosorion6911 where are you saying restaurants owned by Mexicans don't sell authentic Mexican cuisine?
Also I would love to see real Mexican tacos made but with American taco shells.
@@bland9876 Arkansas, and I guess maybe that's the wrong word, but it's more like they're all copy/pasting the same menu, or they "water it down" so to speak, just because they're trying to meet people's expectations for what those types of restaurants "should", in their opinion, have. There were only 2 items in that meal that I actually recognized as something restaurants around here have, at least sometimes, I used to watch a lot of food shows back in Bourdain and Zimmern's early days, and even now, I still couldn't tell you what most of those dishes were, aside from the fact that it was all delicious. I've seen a few small places try have the "more rare" dishes, and it's just kinda sad to me that it's those that don't seem to make it, unless they bend back to having the "familiar" items that most people think of as "Mexican".
@@chronosorion6911 I don't know what counts as real Mexican food but I had a friend who was Mexican and his family would make lots of different kinds of food both the regular stuff you hear about like burritos tamales tacos (soft shell) and she'd make other things les ls popular like she made what could only be described as a homemade hot pocket where the bread was entirely encasing some kind of meat also reminded me of a calzone but not pizza flavored at all and More Hot Pocket shaped. Yum
The only thing I avoided at their house was candy kids avoiding candy you know there's something wrong but I don't like peanut butter cinnamon challenge aka marzipan aka de la Rose
