  • The Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs are administered by CMS and provide incentive payments to eligible professionals, eligible hospitals and critical access hospitals (CAHs) as they adopt, implement, upgrade or demonstrate meaningful use of certified EHR technology. By participating in the programs and demonstrating meaningful use, providers can help create efficiencies in health care and improve care coordination.

Great video, highly informative, although one more fact that we failed to discuss about EHR Incentives is that, MU incentives are subject to income tax like other gross receipts. The recipient must include the incentive payments in gross income unless they receive the payments as a conduit or an agent of another and are thus unable to keep the payments. By the rule, Section 61(a) requires all income from whatever source derived to be included in a taxpayer's gross income unless it is specifically excluded.
