powerpoint is my first gate to game dev world. seeing this video make me realize that I glad i used to make game in powerpoint when i was a kid. thanks, icoso!
We used to use this feature by making a square in the bottom right to keep your mouse over, and it would play an animation using the slides passing by over time, and sound effects and audio would just be sounds played by the slides
i remember building a resident evil themed point and click adventure in powerpoint when i was 12. it actually had a non linear game flow and an inventory system. you can't imagine how complex the arrangement of the scenes have been. i had to build the entire mansion for every possible inventory and game state. like over 100 scenes i had to take care of. good times :D it also had enemy encounters. you had to find a specific weak spot on the enemy before the time ran out. if you hit the weak spot, a shooting animation was played. if the time ran out, the game over scene appeared
My social studies teacher did something similar, but in Google Slides. It was a "Choose your Adventure" game where you had to make decisions, and when you clicked on the decision it would become a link to another slide showing whether you passed, or failed. It seems as if slideshow programs in general are becoming the new ruling game engine.
Here's a small tip for all you PowerPoint game devs: Go to Slide Show > Set Up Slide Show, and tick "Browsed at a kiosk". This will get rid of those pesky buttons at the bottom left plus some other keyboard controls that would otherwise let the player advance slides at will and so on, making it almost indistinguishable from a regular fullscreen window!
I made a visual novel entirely in powerpoint for a final project for a communication class. A friend made the character drawings, and other 2 made the script. I then proceeded to put everything in Power point like a visual novel, music, transitions, sounds and all. It was laggy as hell on my laptop, but my friend macbook ran everything fine on her end. I don't even know why we made it like so, but we all went along with it so whatever lol
I've made a few games in PowerPoint. Bare-bones PPT does have its limitations, but even without macros, you can make some really elaborate stuff if you put your mind to it.

I literally know how I started as a Dev, first learning Java, then Java Swing, then OpenGL API, then Python, then Pygame, Then C++, Visual C++, Android Studio, ESP32, Arduino, Raspberry Pi and what not. And then Me after seeing this video *I need 1 year more to learn PowerPoint* Lol Btw Great Game, I programmed a kinda same game with OpenGL and Java but It was way less good
back then I used to make powerpoint to have loading bars and such to make it interactive-like though it's also my go-to to make posters and cards since idk how to use Publisher or Photoshop/GIMP.
Well for the nobody wanting to actually make games in PowerPoint if you press alt+f11 it will open the vba editor which is where you can use visual basic. You can also enable the developer tab for more things like text boxes that you can edit during the slideshow If you're just making something simple like in this video you can link next level buttons to a slide that transitions to the next slide after 0 seconds. You can also trigger animations when you click certain shapes. Also if you enable kiosk mode then you can't click on the slide or use arrow keys to skip to the next slide
I remember using my iPad with the apple version of PowerPoint, whatever that was named, with redirects on invisible squares to make little password entry things. Of course, it isn't really that useful.
