How did your tank not get destroyed? Because when ever I steal one it always starts on fire after I hit a few cars

I made the same mistake as you did. The closer you shoot the enemy vehicles, the more prone your tank is gonna get damaged. So
1. Shoot them as far as possible
2. Only shoot stationary vehicles, not those moving towards you.
