Guys I am also a beginner like you guys and I was having a lot of trouble while using filler at first but then I realized we have to release / lift our fingers to change the chord while we are at 'U' strum in 'DU' filler and not at 'D'. I don't know how correct is this but it sounded very nice.

Actually, it is pretty common. While strumming, everyone often messes with the pattern. More like, when we play the longer pattern we play down instead of up. Well, this often happens to me. Don't worry, it happens nothing to worry about.

DD UDUD D (DU). You can understand this better.
D= down
U=up
So DD means bring your thumb down 2 times not do up...
UU means bring your thumb 2 times upward...
And so on....
