It was so different then. This was back when MTV played music most of the day and I remember working as a housekeeper at a hotel as a teen and we were allowed to listen to music in the rooms we cleaned while we did our work and I always put it on MTV. No Doubt played a lot when I worked and Nirvana. Back when people still had cassettes and CD's and if you wanted to record a song you recorded it off the radio with a blank cassette or CD. Now people can stream and MTV is mostly shows, so lame. They need to bring the old MTV back with more music.
It was an incredible time to be alive.. I was 11 when this interview was recorded.. I was more into hip hop back then.. I would get pissed when MTV played Nirvana and No Doubt videos.. Then I joined the school band and learned how to play saxophones, which eventually led to me picking up a guitar and learning how to shred.. By the time I got to high school my musical taste had done a complete 180 and I was into the alternative scene.. The 90's were hands down the greatest decade of all time.. We had just enough technology to make our lives easier, but not enough technology to make everyone fat and lazy..
This is cool Was talking to my wife about this band. We saw them on our first unofficial date on her 22nd birthday at CSU Fullerton in 1992. Who knew they'd be huge.
Fullerton isn’t the peak of academia … this band got big because they hit a gold mine with Don’t Speak in the 90’s. That whole area is still a dead zone of progression.

Makes all the others suck…
It bugs me that John Spence never gets mentioned in any of their interviews when he was a formative member and lead vocalist of the group when it began. I’ve never heard Gwen or the rest of the group show him love. May he R.I.P
They did talk about it in the VH1 Behind the Music episode. I think they were trying to keep the interview more positive here, I've read that his death was an especially difficult time for them, particularly Eric since he founded the band with John.
I feel like Gwen has mentioned him a lot. Plus, it’s kind of a sore subject for them. He was their friend and band mate and the group almost split because of his death, not the greatest times to revisit often.
I love these older videos if you even want to call them that old. It takes you back to that Nostalgia that you had growing up and as a millennial I can say that. Girls that look like Gwen are a dime a dozen in OC but she is the sweetest person. Thats what made her stand out. All these bands came to the rehearsal space and most of the guys and ALL the girls were total dicks. But Gwen helped us and other bands load in a few times. Talked to us on load outs. Toni and Adrian too. Genuinely nice people which was rare . SO many dickheads and these guys were just cool They deserved MUCH more than they got and they got a lot. I have to admit I kinda grew a big one for Gwen but i didnt want to mix it up with Tony. After my band left OC I mean RIGHT AFTER i hear they broke up and i was like FUCK! hahaha but there were other dudes and Gavin. IMO that was a total industry created thing. She was too down to earth for that guy. Tony was a grounded dude and thats why i felt ok letting my shit hang low for Gwen. I thought shes real and was always nice to all of us. And not in a slutty way (but she was a handful dont get me wrong) I thought if i had the chance to get closer to her why not. But I never got the chance. Great band and all cool people that deserved the success they got cuz they worked way harder through some hard times than a lot of bands with daddys money did.

I dig Gwens style here
@sebaswildboy yes and i love it
stop saying a l l our generation´s styles are coming back our styles never went away it is called culture vulturism
i adore her jeans!! Gonna try make my own with some fabric paint!
Eric (red tshirt) didn't say that he created the band and he is the writer .. he was so humble, after he left the band eric worked as animator for the Simpsons and other famous shows and channels like Nickelodeon..
Ugh. She's so cool. I wonder what it's like to be so naturally cool. No matter what she wears, or what she says.
Never though much of No Doubt but I got a crush on Gwen from watching this
Good Lord, I remember using that exact video editing software. Used it in 1993. Great to see some early No Doubt footage - even if it's just an interview. I only filmed them in '97 for a few minutes during a television rehearsal.
Still my favorite band of all time i miss 90's
Me too
Yall should listen to fishbone. No doubt were huge fishbone fans and really modeled their sound to imitate them
Favorite band of all time!!!
she looks so different with her natural lips, nose, etc. I loved her look before plastic surgery.
She never got plastic surgery, dumbass.
@@MrParkerman6 Such a polite way to correct her
@Brian taylor I don't see the reasoning with being rude with someone who wasn't.
@Brian taylor He spat off an insult. She didn't. And sorry but Gwen has had work done. Most celebrities at her age has. Nothing wrong with that either, it's just a fact
@Brian taylor Another ignorant person on youtube. If I was jealous of Gwen, I wouldn't say how beautiful I think she is through all these years. People get cosmetic work. Big friggin deal. People who want to keep a youthful look tend to do that. Hers is tastefully done.
I'll say it again, Gwen was an adorable lil' dork. My heart still skips a beat every time I see her and the band. I am so fond of those memories. A truly magical time for music, I hope to see another time much like it. Im so happy I went to so many COUNTLESS shows and saw so many countless bands that shaped my youth in so many backyards and clubs. 😊
ahh 1992, Nirvana was still around... wish I was around in those times, must have been special
They need to bring the old MTV back with more music.
it was so very special 💖 I miss those days so much
It was, saw them both live!! It was the greatest time to be alive
@, how's it lame
Tom doesn't like this guy haha
The first time I listened to No Doubt music was in primary school, I was just a kid and immediately thought how cool Gwen was and still is 😁
bro, 80's ska (specials, madness, etc.), that's where they got their vibe. it's all real, and post-punk. true skater tunes, from the OC
wow, this thing is historical
They had 8 people in the band?
This is cool Was talking to my wife about this band. We saw them on our first unofficial date on her 22nd birthday at CSU Fullerton in 1992. Who knew they'd be huge.
Fullerton isn’t the peak of academia … this band got big because they hit a gold mine with Don’t Speak in the 90’s. That whole area is still a dead zone of progression.
@@BrooklynBaby100 That is an odd comment. It is one of the top universities in the country. I don't really care, as I graduated 30 years ago, but still it is an odd comment.
@@BrooklynBaby100 So... my degree in International Political Science is bogus? Would I have gotten a better degree had I gone to a more expensive private university? I am confused as to why you felt the need to post this.
Damn near thought I was watching Disney Channel at the end there for a second.
LMAOOO
Awesome bit of music history
God the interviewer was so awkward lol, besides that this was a great interview
He was fairly new at it.
Those guys were soooo stoned hahahaha gwen specially
It’s hard to interview 10 ppl lol
To be fair, it is probably hard to interview 11 people simultaneously.
no he was just natural
Gawd she was soooo beautiful!! Still is but back then she was to die for!!!
I was in love with Gwen such a beauty
Who wasn't?
It's hard to believe '92 was thirty years ago.... It goes by so quick.
Miss those days. They all are so sweet in this interview.
Kinda funny how in multiple sessions the interviewers will easily gravitate towards Gwen 90% & she’ll answer by including the rest of the band.
She have 22 years old here and looks like a teenager amazing
She looks even younger than that.
KWOD 106.5 was in Sacramento and I use to go to the Classic Jukebox literally like once a week, place not even there anymore! Good Times
i wonder what they think of this interview now...So Cute and innocent! I mean: "going to get your teeth pulled" songwriting bc "there's so much beauty in the world not just love songs!" Talk about Before you have a publicist!! 💜it!
I know what he's trying to say, but "going to the dentist" is such a random, weird example of beauty :P
Really really hands off... did you catch that yall?
ICONIC
It was a lot of fun to catch them when they were playing the local venues in SoCal back in the day
4:00 The good thing about the 90's is everything was so chill, so crazy!
Columbus 1995 - I was at the Bush concert and Goo Goo Dolls were about to open the show. Some guy gets on stage and tells us to make some noise for a surprise band. A band called No Doubt. It was an amazing show.
As the fans exited the arena we were all singing California Love because it had just dropped. Platinum albums in every genre releasing weekly. An amazing decade.
I love seeing these. They had NO idea just how big they were about to become. :)
wow she´s beatiful!!!
She looks so much like madchen amick here
Uhh, no.
I love these older videos if you even want to call them that old. It takes you back to that Nostalgia that you had growing up and as a millennial I can say that. BEFORE the internet, social media and cell phones. You used to have to WAIT to watch your favorite music video or show on the television, GOOD TIMES!!😀😀😁😁
She had that funny way of using her voice that made her stand out from everybody else at the time. If she hadn't done that we wouldn't still be talking about her decades later.
I think we still would’ve, I never really liked the way she sang but the songs were great and she was hot
She have carisma, so we would have rememberd her, she did so much creative and stylish stuff, she's one of a kind 💎
No doubt!
Okay but No Doubt isn't a word.
This is gold! Great you could record this
Girls that look like Gwen are a dime a dozen in OC but she is the sweetest person. Great band and all cool people that deserved the success they got cuz they worked way harder through some hard times than a lot of bands with daddys money did.
awsome!!! thanks for sharing your story with us!
Tony seems like a dick, at least here.
You fools stay focused on all nonsense and missed the best part: Tony taking a slight dig at their record label when Gwen praised them for being “hands off”.
I caught that. Gwen playfully shoves him to denote the shade lol
2020 pandemic year!! No doubt I'm watching this video😂😂😂🔥
2021 also the pandemic year...!!!
I always think that her and Brittany Murphy are alike 🤷🏻♂️
same!! i was looking for a comment like this
italian american.. both pretending they weren't by,one bleaching even her kids' hair since a young age and the other changing her name
Yes, when you say so, she was cute, too‼️💎
Everything looked so peaceful and calm back then
happy 49th birthday gwen renee stefani !!!!
I saw those guys in 1987 at the Whiskey A Go Go when Gwen was back up vocals to John Spence (the guy she’s talking about at 1:20)
She should've never gone solo. Hope the band got together again.
she was still as good solo??
Thanks for not fixing the OUT OF SYNC audio.
Thanks for this 😬👍🏽
8 band members? When did they cut down to 4?
Around the time of Tragic Kingdom
Eric left in 1994 to go work on the Simpsons and they dropped the horn section around then too.
It’s crazy how a young Gwen Stefani can look so much like Brittany Murphy
I thought she kinda looked like Kate Winslet
