I believe this enclosure would be too big for that model subwoofer. JL specs show that model requires 2.75/nt per sub. This box was built based on 3.0-4.0/net per sub.

I want to build this but add an extra 3 inches to the sides of the box for legs so the box can be turned upside down and the speakers are hidden, Essentially making it a downfireing box I guess, any thoughts on this being good or bad??
That’s a very creative idea man 🤝 I’ve never seen or built a down fire enclosure of that size or using multiple subs. All the more reason to try it 🙌🏽 That’s how we learn bro, instead of listening to someone telling you it can’t be done. I like finding out for myself personally. Example: people told me not face a port forward in an suv, because it’s louder facing the rear…….so I built it facing forward anyway and absolutely loved it 💯 It’s all about trying new ideas and having fun with it ✌🏽 Thanks for watching and the great question.

Thanks 👍🏽 you would need to lengthen the port by maybe 6”- 8”. Not sure if there’s enough room on the backside of the box to do so….without choking down the airflow.
Bj I got a question when you glued and clamped it together did you go ahead and drill the holes then srewed them in and do I leave clamps on while I drill and screw the holes
mike baker - Yessir 👍🏽 You nailed it bro. Apply glue to one piece, 100% coverage using my finger to spread it evenly. Attach the pieces using the clamps. Tap the edges even using a small hammer. Pre-drill all holes then add screws. After the screws are all in, I remove the clamps immediately. The screws will hold the two pieces together, while the glue sets up, not the clamps. That way you don’t have any down time waiting to re-use your clamps. Some people are against using screws, but I’ve always done it this way and have never had one of my boxes come loose 💪🏽
mike bake- FYI: if ur using 3/4” material, use 1-5/8” coarse wood screws. Make sure the screws are in flush or sink a bit, of your filling in holes. Insured the pieces are as tight as tight as possible. Run a thin bead of clear silicone in all interior edges.
Bro I really built this box! I did it just like how you did. Even spayed it on the inside like you did lol. But how did it sound? I haven't tested mines yet and do you think I should face the port Foward or towards the trunk of my Ford Expedition?

Could I use this same box design for 4 15s going in the back of a Yukon xl behind 3rd row seats? I know I have to use different measurements but can I use same design with same port?
FORREST MINOR - With 2-15” plus box room for mounting, you looking at a minimum 34”. My ‘05 Denali does not have s the that much room behind the the 3rd row. You’ll have to measure and see. If so, your good. You want a minimum of 2”-3” clearance off the back hatch.

+Michael Hyman - Say man, I ran some numbers and this box is way to big for 4-12" Kicker or Alpine subs. It's actually on the big side for these 15s. 4-12" L7 Kickers would take 7- 8cf/net and Alpine Type R's would take 4-6cf/net. So I would definitely recommend a smaller box. If you'd like to keep the width the same, I'd make your box shorter or not as deep.

@@suchalif Unfortunately not. Most of my customers aren’t into that side of it. Over here we meter by “hot boxing”. Doors closed, windows rolled up and music playing. You trace a 3/4" outline around the entire top piece. Then locate your port wall and do the same thing, on both sides of the top piece. Now you measure and draw a line dividing the box into (2) equal halves. Then, draw a line from each corner, making X's. That's it 👍🏽 Drill a hole in the center of each X and use a router with the Jasper Perfect Circle to cut out the holes. I'll post a vid, showing this step by step, this weekend. DarthStratus 82 What I would recommend that you do: use WinISD Beta and RE Audio Box Calculator together to get the best design (both are free). You might have to surf UA-cam to figure out how to use them, but they're fairly easy to figure out.

Im using a Massive Audio N4 per 3 woofers since i have not gotten the 3rd amp yet. The woofers are 4ohm wired in series/parallel dropped to 2.6ohms at amp. When I get the other, I will drop it to 1ohm.

mike baker - I don’t think so. What model Skar 15s? If you build it like I did this, you should be good. Customer has the E series Sundowns in this box, still to this day. None of the box seams have budged. 3/4” material, 100% wood glue, 1-5/8” coarse wood screws and bracing are critical 💯
Michael Baker - It should. He wasn't using his 3rd row and had plenty of room, for the port to load off the back hatch. Most Tahoes, Suburbans, Yukons cargo widths, are pretty close to the same 48"-49"width. I have a '05 Denali and built a box that is 48" wide and 20" tall, fits perfect. 👍🏽

Austin, did some more thinking on your question and I may have miss read it. For this box, I did one side at a time. I measured (front to back) to find center, marked and draw my line (left to right). Then I measured the width. The outside box edge, to the first port wall, find center, mark and draw a line (front to back). Now I have 2 identical boxes marked out in pencil. Now I draw a line from corner to corner on each box, making Xs. Now I have my (2) centers. Drilled holes and used the router to cut them out. Repeat on the other side 👍🏽

I build this box a year ago and it's the truth but I will recommend using Birch wood instead of MDF
That’s what’s up man 🤙🏽 glad it tuned out nice for ya. Yea, some folks do like using birch in the builds. To each is on material preference, but definitely 3/4” no matter what they choose 👌🏽I’m an old schooler, so I will always be a mdf guy. Besides, 99% of my builds get wrapped in fabric.

I believe so, but I've never messed with that model. I'd research and make sure the sub specs are similar to sundown e model.

how to center the 15 inch speakers in this box
You trace a 3/4" outline around the entire top piece. Then locate your port wall and do the same thing, on both sides of the top piece. Now you measure and draw a line dividing the box into (2) equal halves. Then, draw a line from each corner, making X's. That's it 👍🏽 Drill a hole in the center of each X and use a router with the Jasper Perfect Circle to cut out the holes. I'll post a vid, showing this step by step, this weekend. DarthStratus 82 What I would recommend that you do: use WinISD Beta and RE Audio Box Calculator together to get the best design (both are free). You might have to surf UA-cam to figure out how to use them, but they're fairly easy to figure out.

@@davidkleinke7349 - Thanks for watching and your comment! Based on your box width and subs. Putting the slot port in the middle, won’t give you enough port area needed, for a box this size. It’ll have to go on the bottom of the box. I’ll have to re-figure this, but I’m in the middle of a few builds right now. Check back in with me over the 🦃 break. I’ll be off and should have time to run some numbers for ya 👌🏾

Im using a Massive Audio N4 per 3 woofers since i have not gotten the 3rd amp yet. The woofers are 4ohm wired in series/parallel dropped to 2.6ohms at amp. When I get the other, I will drop it to 1ohm.

+Romualdo Nayre I think I can help ya, but I will need the specs for your subs. Can you send a link or give me website to go to. I will need to this information first. Not sure if this box will work for your subs. This was built for 4-15" subs not 4-12" subs. Air space and tuning will be different.

mike baker - I don’t think so. What model Skar 15s? If you build it like I did this, you should be good. Customer has the E series Sundowns in this box, still to this day. None of the box seams have budged. 3/4” material, 100% wood glue, 1-5/8” coarse wood screws and bracing are critical 💯

Michael Baker - It should. He wasn't using his 3rd row and had plenty of room, for the port to load off the back hatch. Most Tahoes, Suburbans, Yukons cargo widths, are pretty close to the same 48"-49"width. I have a '05 Denali and built a box that is 48" wide and 20" tall, fits perfect. 👍🏽

Austin, did some more thinking on your question and I may have miss read it. For this box, I did one side at a time. I measured (front to back) to find center, marked and draw my line (left to right). Then I measured the width. The outside box edge, to the first port wall, find center, mark and draw a line (front to back). Now I have 2 identical boxes marked out in pencil. Now I draw a line from corner to corner on each box, making Xs. Now I have my (2) centers. Drilled holes and used the router to cut them out. Repeat on the other side 👍🏽
