    Egg prices became so outof control we actually decided to raise chickens. They provide eggs, pest control, and the waste is great for my garden compost. We bought a 2nd coop, hen house, brooding boxes, lights ect. On FB Marketplace. The chicks, bedding , and feed from Tractor Supply. Feeders and waters as well as toys from Amazon. So we were lucky enough to keep our start up costs low. Our town actually passed an ordinance allowing hens(no roosters), ducks, and turkey's to be raised within the residential areas due to the insane food costs for residents. Even the HOA's had to comply( much to their chagrin 😅). There are 7 homes in our cul-de-sac. 5 have started raising birds.

      I remember when they was 60 cents a dozen (about 1970) but I also checked and see that that 60 cents was worth over 4$ then, so it really isnt much different.

    Jose,
    Those small stores always charge more because they don'thave storage space for bulk purchase...volume discount.
    I have a bunch of those shops near me.
    Do you have an ALDI in your area? I pay $2.98 a gallon for milk, $4.49 LB for bacon, and $2.25 a dozen eggs. Wal-Mart $3.79 5LB of long grain or jasmine rice.

    I was looking at this week's sale flyer for the Bravo market near the house I'm hoping I'll be able to get. It's the closest grocery store to the house. I couldn't believe how reasonable the prices were, compared to how expensive everything has gotten. The best price I can remember was whole pork shoulder roast for $1.59 a pound! I definitely would shop there, and also at Thrifty Meats and Produce, which I think is only in Brevard.
    Grocery stores in so-called "sketchy" neighborhoods have less rent to pay on their store space. That makes them able to pass that savings on to their customers, and it is in their interest to do so.

    Publix in Winn-Dixie usually has buy one get one free I just bought a big bag of leg quarters for $7 it had about 15 leg quarters so that would be 30 pieces of meat if you cut the the leg off the thigh you could wrap them individually in this way you don't have to thaw out the whole bag

    • @Maxsszz
      @Maxsszz 3 місяці тому +4

      @@FLORIDAHOODVLOGS It's not a global problem. It's a dollar problem. In countries like Switzerland, Japan, China, through 21, 22 and 23 inflation was almost non-existent. They even had deflation in the last months. Even here in Europe, I can still find seasonal fruit and vegetables at €1 a kilo (2 pounds), and the problem in the last years was mostly with the price of energy, which is traded in dollars on the markets. Now things are better and we are slowing coming back to normal prices even on the energy bills.

      @@FLORIDAHOODVLOGS If you have a passive income, even small, small to medium sized towns in Southern Europe (Spain, Greece, Italy) are great. I know personally quite a few American expats living in small towns around Rome on 1000-1500 dollars a month, and you can find plenty of examples on UA-cam of expats telling their stories. They don't want to come back to USA, because here they don't have to deal with problems like safety, crime, drug addicts, and they don't need a car to survive, because in those towns the essential services are at a walking distance. Claiming Spanish citizenship by descent (iure sanguinis) would help you a lot, because the permanent resident visa will be easy to get and you will be entitled to access to EU healthcare which is free and of a top quality, at least for surgeries and major problems (for small issues, better to skip the line and go private, but is very cheap). If you don't have both a passive income and you aren't entitled to a EU citizenship, things will not be good; wages are very low and to find a job is difficult if you don't know the language and you don't have any degree, like a TOEFL certification.

      Also, the state of Florida has become the most expensive state to buy groceries now. I live in Florida & in the same county as him. My husband & I are at an average of paying $127.66/week after totaling my receipts over the last few months. We shop only at Aldi & Walmart. I also try my best to be healthy in part because my health issues make it real hard to eat junk. I'm getting all generic/ store brand foods. We never eat out at all. All of our expenses are bare bones paying basic bills & our rent is nearly half of our income.

    Hispanic supermarkets by far have the best deals for your dollars. That includes meats, fish and poultry. Plus, the fruits and vegetables at Hispanic and Caribbean supermarkets are of superior quality compared to Publix. Honestly, I only patronize these supermarkets (Supermercado Bodegon, Key Food formerly Bravo, Fresco y Mas and sometimes Sedanos) for the quality and prices.

      He doesn't have price awareness because they don't shop for basic groceries often. They usually subsist on takeaways and they believe that a 26 dollar sloppa meal of rice and beans is affordable eating (while they could have cooked the same but healthier at home in 10 minutes for less than 3 dollars).

      I could be wrong on this since I don't know them just by watching videos. It seems to me like they eat out way more than what they cook at home. anybody that shops for their food compared to eat out will know where to go for food that is more bang for your buck. Plus this is a specialty store for Latino food so it's gonna cost more.

      bodega is ALWAYS going to be more expensive than Costco because they get half their shit from Costco. lol. the rest is specialty items. buying at neighborhood corner always has a markup, they dont have the distro that Aldi or Costco have cmon now.
