Today the parish priest announced that our Pope Francis declared that the 3rd Sunday in January will be celebrated as the feast of Word of God Sunday throughout the world. I had the privilege to proclaim the Word Of God in the 1st reading. It was about the people of Nineveh turned to the Lord when Jonah gave them the warning that there are yet 40 days to turn to the Lord or the city will be destroyed. They all fasted and prayed and the Lord saved them. I felt Lord pouring grace on me to proclaim the Word. This... your beautiful song came to my mind. I came home and played it and I love the way you sing, it is a meditation. Thank you.
I am so happy to hear that this has been sung correctly. Many people who sing this hymn forget that it is only on the final chorus that the final note (mind) remains on the tonic (D) in all other choruses the final note goes up a third (F#) as you have sung here. Well done and many congratulations.
@@EmmausMusic thank you Emma. This as you may know first made an appearance in Songs of the Spirit c. 1980/2 and it says how the choruses are to be sung as you have correctly done. Wish you were around to teach my congregation and even my choir to sing this correctly! God bless you also!
@@sb6678 I remember my first purchase of Songs of the Spirit. I felt so 'trendy' to be moving from the usual Hymns Old and (not so) New! It (plus SotS 2 and 3) still takes a place of honour at Mass occasionally! 🙏
@@EmmausMusicyes, the Songs of the Spirit series was an excellent resource full of ‘trendy’ folk hymns. Did you ever come across another one published by Kevin Mayhew called Songs of New Life? That was a lovely book and contained many harmonies for the choir and instrumentalists. Our Parish uses a hymn book called Sing Praise and you could choose from a list what went into it. Everything from HON was available to be included if you wished as well as everything from SoS 1 &2 volume 3 wasn’t published at the time, everything from Songs of NL, Folk Praise, C20th folk hymnal series, Celebration Hymnal and a few others. It is now long out of print, but we still have it as our parish hymn book. The organ edition is brilliant as each of the hymns are on individual sheets and I can just remove the ones I want to use on each Sunday. Nice to chat with a fellow hymn enthusiast 🙂
Its Really the 3rd Sunday.of Ordinary Time At Our Church asbthe Choir Sung the Above Hymn O the Word of My Lord Deep Within my Being. Most beautuful and appropriate Hymn being sung at today's Mass in My Country.
Thanks Cathy. Yes, we did slow it down a little to reflect further on the words… but we’ve picked up the tempo a little too when we sing it live. Have a great week ahead. 🙏
Thank you for listening. Please remember to subscribe to our UA-cam channel and leave a comment. We love to read them! God bless! ✝ 🙏
