  • Just when I thought everything was fine, on my way to the lake last weekend, on the hottest day so far of summer, my A/C went out again. Yes, I had just refilled the refrigerant (freon) a few weeks ago, but turns out there was a leak that needed to be repaired.

My friend from Odessa owned a Porsche Cayenne. The fact is that some spare parts for the Volkswagen Touareg are the same as for the Porsche Cayenne (interchangeable). He called dealers in Ukraine by phone, and they asked him what model of car he owned. When he answered "Touareg", they called the price of the same part 10-20 percent cheaper than when he answered "Cayenne". 😂

Yep, they do that with Lincoln's, Cadillac's and every other highend model they made! All you have to do is get the part number and cross reference it to a cheaper model and order it for that car! Once I was stripping a BMW when I saw it had a GETRAG transmission commonly used in GM cars so it's really a good idea to even cross reference different makes as well!

Johnny I love your videos with one minor issue. You make too many negative comments about the US. You grew up in San Francisco. That is not representative of the rest of country. We have cook outs in parks, we hike in nature with family and friends. We go to ATMs without getting robbed. I do enjoy watching your videos and appreciate your work. Why the heck would you route AC lines by the wheels? A stray rock can ruin your day big time! Johnny, dump the Porsche and go with a Toyota - you can find one with 100k and be confident it will still last forever. Heck you can find one with 200k *if it's been well maintained* and expect another 100-200k out of it. They may cost a bit more than other non-luxury cars but never need major repairs and if they do are much cheaper to fix.

Jonny... I'm not trying to be rude, but that car will in the end cost you a small fortune and the older it gets the more unreliable it will become. And due to that it's a Porsche it needs to go to a specialist. There is a reason why Porsche is a premium car brand and with that it comes with Premium price's on parts. But not only that if you go out on UA-cam, most of the most unreliable cars is German and British car brands. I bet you that the Hyundai i40 5:07 is the most reliable car in that workshop. If you want a premium but hazzle free car, you should have a look on some of the Lexus SUV's or Volvo XC 90. But in general just look at the Japanese or Korean cars they are the most reliable cars out there. German car brand just live on old merits, they where great back in the 90'th but now the are stuffed with so much tech and they break down, so sorry to say but they are crap. But if you really want a car brand from the VAG group, you should look at Skoda. They have proven to probably have the best reliability. And just think about it for a while, in the last video you told us that you would maybe travel and be away for around 3 month. Leaving a Porsche for 3 month when you know it needs to be driven, will kill it if you don't drive it and it will breakdown more and more. So just to give you advice, even if you love that car. But it's not worth it. If you have a car get something that is less expensive and more reliable. But it all up to you in the end, but that is my advice to you!

They need to put die in the system so they can see exactly where it is leaking, as much as it has sat the seal in the compressor could have gone dry! The compressor produces about 200 pounds of pressure on the high side and no rubber seal can hold that much pressure so the first seal (which you can't see) is made out of ceramic saturated with refrigeration oil and that holds the bulk of the pressure and then there is the outer seal that is made out of rubber/silicone or whatever and that stops any oil/refrigerant from leaking and keeps dirt out of the compressor shaft! Once you get it fixed don't let it sit more that a few days without starting and running the A/C or the defrost but the first time you use the defrost check to make sure the compressor clutch engages and spins the compressor!

I drive an Acura TSX V6, which is basically a European Accord with a V6 engine. In close to 14 years, and over 150K miles, I only had to replace two speakers and the driver's side power window switches. Now that I work from home, I drive the car less than 5K miles a year. Driving so few miles, I wouldn't be surprised if the car lasts me for the rest of my life; even though I'm only in my mid 40s. Not buying a reliable car brand is insane to me. Even if you're under warranty, who wants to be in and out of mechanic shops? Since I drive so few miles, I haven't been to a mechanic in close to 2 year. My car is definitely due for an oil change :-).

Different segments of cars are for different folks. Milking those with money to burn. That's why that couple who sold the Porche to you where happy to get ride of it.

AC systems are fully closed, so once you have the leak you have opened the system...once you have a leak you have to find that leak and repair as at the pressures an AC unit works at will not allow the AC to work for long with a simple recharge.... wish it was easier, but modern AC is a very binary issue, there is no limping along with a leak.

The East Side / Left Bank of Kyiv reminds me of the outer boroughs of New York City where I grew up, e.g. Queens (where I'm from), Brooklyn, the Bronx (Staten Island doesn't count, LOL). You have Manhattan, which is where all the wealthy people live and tourists visit, with all the great restaurants and attractions, and much safer, then you have the boroughs where the real New Yorkers live, the working class, those who have been in NYC for decades and their families for generations. Though the food is good in Manhattan, I actually prefer the food in Queens; it's more authentic, and the people are more grounded and not snobbish. Don't get me wrong, every time I go to NYC I hang out in Manhattan, LOL, but I believe there's a place for the boroughs, i.e. the Left Bank / East Side of Kyiv. As you state in your video: "It serves its purpose." Another great video, Johnny! And I actually enjoy watching videos of your car, LOL. It's almost as if your car has its own personality with its own trials and tribulations, LOL, and should have its own video channel, LOL! Enjoy, Johnny, and be safe!

thanks for providing more proof as to why i' was right about these overly priced/engineered cars. also, Im confused when you talk about the looks of a car, the color or interior. i really only see quality materials and reliability. sure, the quality looks impressive and i appreciate it but in the end, its just a very expensive looking pile of delicate garbage that works when it wants and doesnt when you need it. unless, you are a mechanic and love the brand, someone with plenty of money for regular and expensive preventive maintenance/service, or a german proud of their country, its just a pain in the neck and makes most people who own them look like wannabes or yuppies.
