Nyoni, such a pleasure to watch him play. He's so young still, needs time to mature, but his potential is clear to see, hopefully he will go from strength to strength at Anfield.
The thing that stands out to me abut Gakpo is his footwork. He's got a dancer's footwork, he's light and quick, his foot movement is second to none and add in the fact he's a long large lad, he's tough to stop. He has a lot of grace and smoove to his game.
People underrate Gakpo because he mostly played as a 9 for Klopp and he was only okay there. His pace and strength work well for him when he has a little space in the wide areas to work with. His long distance shot and crosses are much better than other Liverpool LWers now and in recent memory. A PSV fan once commented he racked up a lot of assists at the club with his pinpoint corners, so this should not be a surprise.
I've been on the Mbuemo train for a few seasons now. Hopefully this isn't his prime and, if we go for him next summer or the summer after, he's still on the rise.
Can't believe we have a 3rd goalkeeper as strong as Jaros. Alisson, Kelleher, Jaros, and Mamardashvili is a blessing - I remember the days of Mignolet, Bogdan, Jones and Ward 🥲
Quansah was incredibly stable, and genuinely top tier last season, only making one mistake - think against Utd that cost us the game, but otherwise was flawless. Not much to go by, but it is not a good look when those games he has had thus far, as been grave mistakes. There is a super talented player there for sure.
She's got vids about Spurs, Arsenal, Man City, Chelsea and on them comment sections all their fans say the same. She's just not biased. She covers them with the same energy. So this plays down all this nonsense here.
Or he was allowing robbo to make up for his poor performance on weekend, giving him the confidence still to say yes you played badly but he’s a chance to make up for it I’ve still got faith in you, more of confidence/morale choice imo more than preferring one over the other
Gakpo is nothing to do with "on his day," respectfully. He just needs to start more games. If he starts every game, he's basically a guaranteed goal or assist. His numbers at every level when he gets into a rythm and starts every week are top class. He's extremely accurate and composed in the final 3rd. Even with Holland he scores or assists most games. The lad NEEDS to start every week on the left, even if that means moving Diaz. Gakpo is just too decisive and too good at racking up goals and assists to be a sub. The amount of chances Liverpool create, he'd score way more than Diaz. He'd probably be a top 5 scorer in the league.
Found Gakpo was more a beast 2nd half, and we were lukewarm on the right under Diaz. Much better left side. And it looked like we played 4-4-2, whereas I'd have preferred 4-2-3-1, Morton and Endo behind Jones, Szob and Diaz (on the left), leaving Gakpo upfront. We just about edged it last night, the 1st half showed how equal we were, no goals, near moments, and we stepped up the gear 2nd half. Brighton's goals were gifted, Quansah lost it for their 1st, and a deflection made for their 2nd, otherwise felt Jaros was well good for his bow.
i think slot is a very tactical manager but I also think something that separate's him from a lot of other tactical managers is that he has a welcoming and likeable personality which (at least what we have seen so far with interviews) has made him a pretty good man manager as well. This is kind of where I see the Klopp and Pep influences
People banged on about no signings this summer but this is the best squad depth I've seen at Liverpool. Even our third choice keeper is really good. Could we do with a couple more players? Yes if a deal can be done, but you can see why Slot wasn't fussed about shaking things up - he knew what a good squad this is.
Great analysis, as always. I read a lot of comments from Feyenoord fans when Arne signed for us and figured we might have got a gem. I loved Jurgen, but our style could get too gung-ho and our game management was suspect at times. Slot has tightened things up and it's been an insane start. Long way to go. Agree with you about Grav.
Thing with Gakpo this season is he has been consistently good but the g/a hasn’t been consistent. Under klopp he was inconsistent all around but the performance levels under Slot have been there. Slot didn’t want to give Chelsea the ball by the way he said it himself that he wanted to dominate the ball but Chelsea were just better that day. We are in talks for Omar Marmoush from Frankfurt on the right too. Great video
Szoboszlai was fantastic last night. Put in a great, energetic shift. Should've scored in the first-half, however, when Robertson cut the ball back to him - I'm not blaming the Hungarian for his miss in the second-half because Gakpo shouldn't have lifted his pass.
Great analysis again, Alice! I'd say that Bradley could definitely play LB, but as he's not yet 'mastered' RB (especially in terms of attacking balance), let him master that role. Tsimikas has done alright so far.
Brighton away in a cup is 50/50 so obviously glad we came through the tie victorious. Good momentum going into a home clash against them on the weekend!
Kinda pathetic seeing the Utd players banging the goals in the minute Ten Hag has been sacked, smh. I'd have been fascinated to see Rashford playing in a Klopp team I reckon he'd be a baller in a Klopp front three. I agree about Slot he absolutely knows what he's doing with that Liverpool squad. 🙂
With all top sportsmen/women they have the ability, it's striking how much some drop off due to confidence. At the elite level, mentality is everything.
Ive been sayin curtis is a baller for 3years. He never gives the ball away. His closing down n engine is 2nd to none and now hes getting into the box more under slot
Hi Alice and everyone. I thinkGakpo performs better when he comes on as a substitute than when he is a starter. Yesterday was a more relaxed match than the EPL, so for me we cannot compare it with the most important matches. We urgently need a substitute for Konate. Quansah continues to give advantages, he is not reliable and later in the calendar it will be expensive for us (it already happened last season against Man U and Arsenal). Your analysis was perfect...as usual. YNWA
Totally get the Rashford comparison. Played well in the whole with a number of players clearly a bit rusty. Worried about Robertson and not quite his reliable self. Onto the next game 💪
Anyone saying jones isnt any good just watch him in tight spaces, his ball retention is nuts. He can draw three men and somhow come away with the ball. Invaluable.
As an LFC fan but also an England fan, I have no issues admitting that Rashford can be excellent at times. If only he could be excellent for England at major tournaments…
I agree , Liverpool should go in for a Left sided CB that can play left back . And another CDM to challenge for the Prem this season . We’ll see in January if the owners believe in our title charge
Personally don’t think Bradley should go to LB as he’s cover for Trent and like Robertson his very one footed so putting him at left back would disrupt his playing style. In my opinion I think Owen Beck whose on Loan at Blackburn Rovers whose having a great season should be recalled in January and reintegrated into the squad, I could never see the team without Robertson or drop him he means so much to me. Pause 😂 also the left centre back hybrid could be a good shout Schlotterback isn’t a bad shout
Agree on the Rashford comparison, especially with them both being an "on their day player." Unfortunately, that's why neither will be world class imo. Bradley is great, but isn't very comfortable on his left, so wouldn't put him at LB. He'll be Trents replacement next season. If a midfielder comes in, I'd expect Mac Allister to still play deeper. Slot likes his 10s to really run & Macca offers control from deep positions.
Another quality analysis, thanks Alice. Do you rate Jo Gomez as a RB/RWB? I know he's best as a Central Defender, but he's done a good job for LFC on right. I thought Southgate should have played him RB for England in Euro's. Much better fit than the two he tried there. Just my humble opinion. Is JG Englands best RB/RWB?? If not, who is??
I think Slot will play Tsimikas at LB in the league and Robbo there in the CL and EFL. Bradley probably gets minutes from the bench in the league and CL and starts the EFL games would be my guess.
the strongest Liverpool side that I think personally should be given a try is Allison Trent Virg Ibou Connor Macca Gravenberch Curtis/ Szobo Luis Diaz Gakpo Salah
As a Liverpool fan, I would say Rashford hasn't felt loved under ten Hag. If the incoming manager is on his wavelength and plays a style that suits Rashford, he will come back to his best. He has been under performing for most of ten Hag's tenure.

I love the mbuemo shout, perfect understudy to Mo and good depth for front line in general
I've been on the Mbuemo train for a few seasons now. Hopefully this isn't his prime and, if we go for him next summer or the summer after, he's still on the rise.
Yeah, he's a very good player. Costly at £50 million, however.
I have a season ticket at Brentford and have to say that Mbuemo would have been a much bigger loss than Toney. Would be great for Liverpool
Can't believe we have a 3rd goalkeeper as strong as Jaros. Alisson, Kelleher, Jaros, and Mamardashvili is a blessing - I remember the days of Mignolet, Bogdan, Jones and Ward 🥲

Absolutely agree, just an unfortunate little patch. He'll be excellent for us for years.
I think his number was coming up before the deflection anyway, so just bad luck there.
I am still very impressed how cool he is at 21. Two huge unforced errors mistakes in last 8 months is not great, but he just needs more experience.
He will learn. He needs to hold the ball and look first before passing it. Sometimes, he rushes to pass without looking.
He was big for us in the cup final earlier in the year. Hopefully he can find his groove and regain some form.

Another great unbiased breakdown of another football match. I appreciate your analysis. Thank you.
With Robertson starting today and Tsimikas rested, i think we all know who Slot prefers at leftback now 😂
You'd be surprised. Tsimikas played all preseason and then robbo started the season.
That was because of the status. Robbo was always poised to be the starting LB... until now@@kloppsippingvarsenaltears2789
