Nice write up. Very clean work, and attention to detail
I have 2 Kawasaki Quad power wheels. A Ninja and a Brute, both running 24v. The Ninja is heavily modded with "stronger" gear boxes and 24v 30,000rpm motors. Batteries are 2 12v 12aH. The Ninja has eaten quite a few gearboxes in 24v mode just touching grass. So only on grass in 12v for both the quads. The Brute is still on stock motors and gearboxes and has been running 24v for a year. Just ate a gearbox last week but I drilled out the 1st gear to a 1/2" hole and ran a new shaft through that gear and the gearbox. Hopefully it'll last till winter. 😂
We just got a Dune Racer and am tempted to bump it to 24v. But really don't want to have to replace gearboxes.
Did you modify the wheels? Increasing grip will kill the gears.
How long did the stock motors and gears last on 24v?
How much volts can these lil motors take?
Dang. Can I just pay you to do this for my sons quad?
Which charger did you go with? I like the idea of being able to charge the batteries in series without having to remove them from the rig.

Should the wiring be upgraded to a thicker wire to avoid over heating? thanks
Only the wiring on the diagram in the description was changed to a heavier wire. Everything else stayed stock
Where do you plug the charger in on the car?
Following!
Hi, my son was having a blast for a few days. Today one of the tires has stopped turning. What should I look for to fix it? Something burned? Is each tire with a separate motor and maybe I need a new motor just for that tire? Thanks for everyone’s help.
My grandson's is still unmodified but one of the motors went out. Remove the tire and you will see 2 flat head screws at the top of the gear box, those hold the motor in place. On top of the battery compartment is 2 green panels each held down with 2 phillips head screws. Remove the panel on the side with the bad motor. That panel covers an access hole that gives you access to the motor and wiring. You can use a small saw or dremel to enlarge the hole to make things easier. The 2 wires are soldered to the motor leads. The red wire is connected to the terminal on the motor that has a red marking on it. Good luck! I was looking for a replacement motor when I found these videos.
Christopher Smith , thanks. I am waiting on my new motors. I first have tried with the two switches, but did not work. I hope that will fix it. It’s weird how one tire was not working and the reverse, but maybe the reverse is supposed to work only when both motors are working. Thanks and good luck
@@borisminkov1405check out M.L. Toys. They have a great selection of repair parts and upgrades for power wheels. Motors, gears etc.
@bibliata up to you really, I know that if you use an ESC like what is sold by east coast power ups you may not have to change the motors at all.
So how much faster is it?? We didn't see it move.
Once I did that... my fast speed now stalls/stops after 1 second. What would cause this? Is there a regulator on this?
Is it a dune racer?
I know this comment is 2 yrs old but this is my problem it was with original battery I kept dune racer either inside or in my outside closet not in rain, so just thought original battery was getting old switched to 18 volt drill battery n does same thing. Iv replaced gear switched twice and then foot pedal switch and still it would go 10 seconds stop maybe restart and go for few seconds or maybe not for months at the time or ya might get lucky and make it a minute or 2.
I only subbed when he said the button on the screen
I just converted from 12 to 24. The power wheels battery is a 12v 9.5 amp and I installed a 12V 10 amp battery. I installed a 30 amp in line fuse and after about a minute, the fuse went. The power selector was on the fastest speed. I'm going to switch to 40 amp as your video text addition said. Is that still working well for you on the fastest speed?
It is still working well. the 30 amp fuse just couldn't handle it.
Since my last question, I have successfully broken the first gear on both units. Now I need to replace. Did you convert to metal gears or a metal first gear? I'm wondering if I should just replace with plastic and then drop down to 18v. Your thoughts?
I didn't replace the gears but one thing that I think is very important is making sure that you don't do anything to get more traction. Adding rubber tires or riding on high traction surfaces will not allow the plastic tires to spin and so the gears will take the full punishment of "zero to full speed" directly. We only run our cars on pavement or loose dirt. I have never done an 18 volt conversion but I would guess the results would be similar. In the end these cars were not designed for speed so just like upping the power in a real car it does come at a price.
I see. Thanks for that info. I think you are correct about the dirt or pavement. I had the kids doing circles around the house in the grass. The wheels didn't have the ability to spin. I did see that metal first gears are available, but don't know if that will lead the breaking the rest. Unfortunately, it all literally comes with a price also and for the small amount of time the kids will still fit in the vehicles, it would be cost effective. Thank you again for the video and correspondence.
jbrock5811 . i have my kids at 18v with no issues. stock plastic wheels driven on any surface. they prefer the plastic wheels for power slides on pavement.
Do you think changing a 24v princess carriage to 40v (2 20v 5ah dewalt batteries) would work?
Is it safe to go to 24v from 12v? Dont burn The motors? I have i gator john deere 12v....
I can only speak for the Dune Racer and it did fine. We have a quad with 24 volts and it burns off the wires after each ride.
I modded my son's H2 to 36v, HPI 540 motors, and made them liquid cooled. It HAULED! He was drifting at 3yrs old, and very well. I tried converting my daughters Dune Racer to 24V and it must've had something that limited it to 12V because it made NO difference. I messed with it for a few hours and no luck. So I just bought her a gas quad, modded that too! But I'm an MX tech, that dune racer wiring was very odd.
I have the dune racer and upped it to 18 volts but it will go barely a minute stop may go again after a minute or two or maybe not for a month and it did this with original battery as why I changed,. I thought it needed new battery but idk what it is have replaced gear switches and pedal switch
@@leahrodriquez1349 the motors are overheating I bet.
@@jasonjaeger4042 even when it had it's original battery it can do that? It would just stop like no battery at all in it.
Now in the diagram, I see the positive going into the negative on the 2nd battery?
The batteries are 12 volt and that is how we raise the voltage to 24. The dune racer motors seem to hold up pretty well with the extra power but other power wheels don't.
How much volts will the motor and gears handle. I have one of those snapper 60v batteries that goes to the lawn tools. Lol
Lead acid batteries work better and last longer. I think that 60 volter will fry if fast
@@custompowerwheels5217 how about 48v ebike battery?
Great Video!...Just bought my Grandson the Dune Racer,...I found the Batteries on Ebay but could you give me the link you purchased the Smart charger and Receptacle from?...Thx

What was the battery you used for the stock battery in the rear.
Can you provide some information on the charger port and stuff that u used, and how it's wired ECT. I'm in the process of modding my own kids dune racer to 18v and would like to add a charger so I'm not removing the batteries all the time
There is a wiring diagram link in the video description. The dune racer in the video is converted to 24 volt but you can search for an 18 volt smart charger on amazon. Use the type of connector that the charger comes with. The smart charger will not overcharge the battery if you leave it plugged in. Good luck! Don't forget to add the fuse. The factory powerwheels batteries have the fuse built in.
do you have to modify anything else on the motor or just the batteries??
I just did the batteries. As of today the car still runs fine. It is only driven on level paved roads, don't know how the motors would hold up in the dirt or on a lawn but I suspect it would not be good.
Where is the battery at?
Im looking at this model for my son's. Do you know of you can install one of those universal remote controls on these?
I'm not smart enough but I would guess its possible
I keep reading how 24v will kill the motor and only go to 18? Is that correct?
Could you burn out the motors? Yes. But here is what my experience has been specific to the dune racer power wheels: The car in the video has worked fine for 6 months on 24 volts with no problems. We don't run it with two passengers or with a heavy driver. We run it mostly on hard surfaces and have made no modifications that would improve rear wheel traction so the wheels can still spin. We don't run it up hills or on thick grass that might allow the motors to heat up. So if you want to add rubber tires, run it with the maximum weight load, and then drive it up steep hills, you probably will have problems. That being said, you can have a lot of fun drifting on pavement or paths and it will go fast and handle pretty well on 24 volts.
That is awesome...and compared to other videos out there I love your attention to detail in making it look professionally installed. One more thing, what type of wiring and batteries do you recommend.
I buy the batteries on ebay. The manufacturer is universal battery and they are 12v 10AH sealed lead acid PART NUMBER UB12100-S. I can get 4 for 91.99 and free shipping. Use a 40 amp fuse and I'm not sure what the optimum wire guage would be.
You will also want to get a 24volt smart charger.
can you post the wiring diagram, over watched other videos and there wiring looks off, just want to make sure i do it right
do you know if I can upgrade/mod the 6v dune racer to 24v, or will that ruin the motor?
6 volts to 24 will probably kill the motors.
Where are you located?
The reverse in ours has stopped working. Any tips on how to repair?
+Pete Hebert I would suggest that you post your question on facebook. Do a search to find the Modified Power Wheels site. It has a lot of Power Wheels fans and they can be pretty helpful.
where did you get those batteries and other hardware
I bought the wires, connectors, and fuse at the local auto parts store. The batteries were bought on ebay and the part number is UB12100-S 12v 10A. The brackets can be made with aluminum angle iron from your local hardware store. The schematic I used is in the video description. Good luck.
No test drive for us to see?

How did you have the sound when steping on the petal
The sound was added in editing the video. There are motion sensitive car sound apps available on your phone that would achieve a similar result if you are willing to set it up on a power wheels car. Most are free, see if that helps.
thanks
So we ever gunna see it work?
Subscribe to the channel, there are at least 2 videos that show it running. Thanks for watching
Hey can you please send me a parts list of what you used on your dune razor I have the same one my daughter wants her to go faster Pretty please pretty please
Why would a 30 amp blow on the second gear?
Switch it to a 40 amp fuse.
switch to a 40 amp fuse
Custom Power Wheels thank you! I did just that!! It last longer but pops when on grass
i would have thought you could up the amp but not the volt , if motor is 12v , you can't run a 24v battery ?
i have done the 24 volt convertion !! it is really fast and really cool but the batterie drain extremely fast ... ?? dont know why
My experience has been just the opposite. What kind of batteries are you using? Are you using a 24 volt charger?
Custom Power Wheels !! I use the original Batterie of the Dune Racer and a 12v like your on the front ! But a i dint do your setup it was To fancie 😉 maybe later if i find the trouble! i just plug the 2 batterie in séries
Positive of the original Batterie on Positive of the Power Wheel and the négative of the original batterie on the positive of my new batt on the front ....the négative of this batterie on the négative of the Power wheel......and i put a Circuit Breakers 30amp 12volt
Thank for your attention
Like you see... im French canadian so i hope im clear 😊
Miss matched batteries will hurt the performance and the stock batteries are not as good as the aftermarket sealed lead acid batteries we use.
@@custompowerwheels5217 link to your website please!!???
When I did this to the stock dune racer it stripped out the gearbox with 20 volts lmao.
I’m lost....
How the hell do you out that stupid fucking battery it comes with on it?!

Lame.
