To be fair, being on a program like that in itself is commendable- so I think Hattie deserves praise even for that. And honestly, I get how she feels- all these people around us can keep telling us we did a good job (in terms of doing things involving speaking Korean), but we ourselves will always be heavily self critical lol. Hattie already studies a lot, and Jin is good in that he encourages her and praises her for how much she's learned, but I think it would help for him to give her more advice and tips on how to SOUND more fluent in Korean, ie speaking more; correcting her when she speaks in a really "text book" way, etc. He speaks so much English that it can be hard for Hattie to actually improve her Korean cos she's not using it as much as she should. My roommate literally could not speak a lick of English so I was forced to learn Korean in a way that sounds more like a native speaker, so I think that could really help her out and be more confident.

Don't worry Hattie you're not alone, I've been living in Belgium for 11 years and still can't speak perfect french, even my mother who has been living in Italy for more than 20 years can't speak proper italian

언어습득능력은 사람마다 다 차이가 있으며 그 언어습득능력만이 그 사람의 모든 능력을 좌우하는 것은 아니니 스스로를 멍청하다며 깎아내릴 필요는 없습니다.
한국사람도 평생 영어공부를 한다고 해도 막상 영어로 말 한마디 꺼내는 게 쉽지 않은 사람도 많죠.
중요한 건 배우고자하는 의지가 있느냐와 그보다 더 중요한 건 상대의 문화를 이해하고 존중하려는 마음을 가지는 것이라 생각합니다.

Hattie you should be proud of yourself and how far you have come learning the Korean language. Over here in the USA there are people who have lived here for over 20 twenty years and they still don’t speak English, so pat yourself on the back for how far you have come and keep up the good work.

Me and my family moved to Sweden 7 years ago and my Mom still can’t speak any Swedish. My Dad knows some words but he can’t say proper sentences. My brother who was 10 when we moved is still struggling in school with the language. So Hattie, never give up. There are always some difficult days and when you learn a new language you will have times when you feel like you are not going forward. But after that it will be easier. You just need to do your best. 😊💜

Hattie, you are very brave to go on a Korean Quiz Show after only studying Korean for 2 years. Good for you. Second, don't beat yourself up. I don't know UK education system, but here in the USA, we are really bad at teaching our kids second languages; therefore, a lot of native English speakers in the USA only know English. If not already,
Jin needs to help by speaking Korean to you more. Watch more K dramas, and read Korean books. That should hopefully help. You got this 👍 💪
