First up, my apologies for incorrectly using "English" to describe the forces in play. "British" is the correct term, and I'll work to get this correct in the future. Related to that, I've updated the Known Errors section of the video with things pointed out so far. Nothing major, which is good, and the designer has pointed out 3 minor mistakes (none impact the gameplay shown).
Great demo and now I can confirm that I'd love this game. I can also see what you mean about 'intricate'. Quite involved in places but another excellent Legion production. Lovely cards!
Thanks! There are really only 2, maybe 3 places where it gets a bit detailed (force composition for both sides, and assault execution). But I've found the rules clear so it's just a matter of getting used to doing it a few times. We'll see both of those things in the next episode.
@@ZillaBlitz I know I think the level of detail. Normally supply is this abstract thing. This has you counting bullets, and having to actually get the supplies and bring them back, but somehow doesn’t feel overbearing. It’s a neat system and an interesting topic for sure.
I just looked it up and I'm not familiar yet with the game, the company, or any other games they make. I think it's literally the first time I've ever heard of them. You enjoy it? It looks like they've got some interesting, accessible games.
Sure thing, it's a fun game that I think a lot of people will enjoy. I'm hoping to have the next one up in a few days, most likely this weekend. Thanks for stopping in, Royce!
Watched this with interest and a lot to take in with all the different items to work through. Unsure about the game at the moment but that might change with the next episode. Excellent content & comment.
Hello. Thank you for the videos, they are very helpful. One question, in pg 6 of the rulebook (2.4) says a regimental HQ may only assemble companies from its own regiment. Can Colley command all initial units of Fort Amiel though they are from different regiments?
Hi Ananda - I'm glad you found the videos helpful! :) The short answer to your question is yes, that Colley can command different regiments in the same column. I don't have the game handy at the moment, but I believe there is a penalty to assaults if regiments are combined. Hope this helps, that's one part of the rules that I asked on Board Game Geek about and the designer provided an answer. :)
Thanks for this video. (04:10) The four 15H should be placed in the Troops box, not the Naval box, of the Indian Column Holding Box. (26:18) The D/58 and S/60 should be placed in the Troops box, not the 58 and 3/60 boxes, of the British Camp Holding Box. D/58, S/60, NMP and the four 15H should always be stored in the Troops boxes of the holding boxes. Ignore background counter colour, these are all reserves. For example D/58 is not part of the 58th regiment.
Thanks, Godfrey! I've added these to the known errors in the video description as well. Much appreciated. :) I'm working on the next video this weekend, and it'll focus on column composition and assaults, so distinguishing reserves from regular units is something I'll focus on for that, too. Thanks again for creating a unique and fun game. :)
Enjoyable video as always. I have Redver's Reverse by the same designer, which I really enjoyed, but this looks even better. I've just been looking for an excuse to buy it really.,...
Thanks, Justin! I don't have Redver's Reverse yet, but I'm enjoying this one. I've been a touch delayed in recording the second part, but I'm hopeful it'll be this week. :)
My grandfather Jock Harte would never forgive me if I let that stand. "English" troops? ENGLISH troops? Most of them were Irish and Scots. The English have always been too smart to send their own to die in foreign wars - that's what Scots and Irish and Australians are for.
My apologies! I had this pointed out in my very first series (Afrika Korps), so it's not like I wasn't told of this before. I really need to be more sensitive to this, and I will do better in the future. Thanks for pointing it out, OLP!
TL;DR - Not 100% sure of my answer, but I like what I see so far. :) I think the next video will start to highlight a lot of the variety and depth in terms of how you approach taking the 9 objectives on the tactical map. I'm still very much "trying stuff" and much of it doesn't work that well. So two thoughts... 1 - I think there will be a good number of losing attempts where you try dumb stuff and make mistakes before you start to figure out good strategies. Each game takes a while to play, so there will be a lot of good mileage in "untangling the knot", if you will. 2 - I suspect the events and randomness involved in some battles will lead to the British player having to adjust on the fly. So while I can't say definitively yet, each game feels like it will play out differently. For example, in both of my first two attempts, I've lost General Colley in the first week. That's really hampered my mobility in the game, forcing me to adjust and adapt to that restriction.
@@ZillaBlitz Nice. Ok, maybe not much of a concern there and perhaps even more optimism for multiple passes at it. Question about the general. Does he need to go up the road right off the bat?
Colley could have stayed back at the Fort, but it would have meant that we would have had to organize our column differently. With a general in the column, you can mix core units from different regiments. Colley is honestly more of a hindrance in actual combat, historically he gets a lot of the blame for the British performance in the war.
I think I like the game; but... (warning! old grumbler rant approaching!)... I know we can't sell a game today withOUT a deck of cards, but do we REALLY NEED a deck to remind us of the turn sequence? They should have added another with just six cards and done away with the die as well. ;) lol
Ha! I agree with your general thinking. However, I think this is the first official game to launch with Stuka Joe's Sequence of Play cards, and I think it's a huge help. Each phase has a rather intricate number of steps, this would be so much harder to play with sequence of play charts. It feels like the perfect place to use this sort of a system.
Thanks for pointing this out, Suart. Someone pointed out this same mistake in my very first series, I really need to be better at this. My apologies! I'll work to get it right in the future.

@@ZillaBlitz Excellent!
Awesome video! It really shortens the learning curve for this game!
I'm happy you found it helpful, good luck in your game! :)
Thanks! :)
I usually leave one half back and bring them up with the second week wagon! Man I gotta get back to this one interesting little system
I've done that as well, yes. It really is such an interesting system. :)

Yes, I can't think of another game that let's you "play" supply like this, and it's fun.
Great video as usual, I wanted to understand how the game worked and this is a great explanation
Glad it helped, Aeon! Thanks!
A bit off topic. Have you had a chance to check out the board game Mrs. Thatchers War?

Only MTW. Very reminiscent of Hill that your playing now.
I'll take a closer look at it, thanks!
This was a lot of fun. Enjoyed the extra complexity of ensuring that the front line is fully supplied.
Next one we'll see combat, too, which is where the challenge heats up. :)
Definitely 👍 for me. Thanks for the demo. Looking forward to the next one.

Yes, we'll start the second episode with an assault and that's where the game picks up. Thanks for stopping in, coyi!

Good luck in school, things here are good!
That's nice to here

I'm a little worried about replayability as the game looks sort of "linear" in terms of progression. What's your take?
Which may not be a bad thing, mind you. Just curious about it.
