- Porsche has released its 2023 Annual and Sustainability Report, revealing plans for an electrified 911 hybrid to debut early this summer. This new model, part of the updated 911 lineup known as "992.2," will feature a six-cylinder engine and is described as a high-performance hybrid, aiming to boost speed and efficiency. The technology for the 911 Hybrid is inspired by Porsche's racing heritage, avoiding the plug-in hybrid route to keep the car lighter.
Details suggest the hybrid will have a 48V starter generator integrated with its automatic gearbox, providing all-wheel drive with an electric motor at the front and a traditional engine at the rear. A specially designed, lightweight lithium-ion battery will be located behind the rear seats, minimally impacting the car's weight.
Rumors also hint at a more powerful GT2 RS hybrid variant with over 750 horsepower. Despite discussions around electric vehicles, Porsche confirms that a fully electric 911 will not be released this decade, focusing instead on combustion engines, potentially using synthetic fuel to comply with future regulations. The European Union's exemption of synthetic fuels from its 2035 emissions ban may extend the life of traditional engines.

All this new technology makes we want an older car more and more
Exactly my thoughts, it's always tempting to get a new model but I'm feeling happier and happier with my 991.1
This is a "hybrid", but that word means different things right now. My understanding is that the purpose of the battery powered system is strictly for a power boost, and not something that's able to get you to the supermarket and back without burning any fuel. I believe I read that the base and S models won't get the hybrid module right away and that it's GTS and higher models that will see it first. With that said, I'm glad I took delivery of my 992.1 earlier this year. Porsche is usually really good with their engineering, but I wouldn't want to be the first to try the new hybrid tech.
Correct, this is a mild hybrid (not a plug in hybrid) - no electric only mode, no plug, and only recharging from the ICE engine and regenerative braking. Base model won’t get hybrid due to cost, but Carrera S and above will. Perhaps the GT3 won’t go hybrid, but I doubt it at this point.
Have fun changing out that hybrid battery on 10 year cycles. I bet it will cost at least 50 grand for a replacement.
The 992.1 should skyrocket... No manual anymore either. They ruined it. So sad.
Finally someone that understands!
Manual should carry over - only in the T and S models (plus GT/Special Editions). The current 3.0L turbo engine stays in some of the range. The T-HEV hybrids are GTS and up models (with no manuals due to packaging and even if they could, there is a torque limitation of the manual).
@@MrSchn3ll not disagreeing, originally I thought the base and GT cars wouldn’t go hybrid, but do you think they’ll do another year of the 4L with nearly no hp/tq gains? I think they’ll add a super lightweight hybrid just to boost the numbers
so 992.2 will be presented in summer 2024? Is this certain news or is it just a hypothesis?
It was supposed to be in April last year, but perhaps they held out to see what would happen with Euro7 regulations. It could be a bonus that they waited, as they relaxed some of the restrictions and added a clause for cars that ‘can’ run on synthetic fuels, but doesn’t specify that they ‘need’ to use synthetic fuels (just that they’re able to)!
what is new now?
992.2 Hybrid Porsche 911 this summer? Light weight and AWD. Electric power up front with 6 cylinder ICE driving the rear wheels.
All new model? Or only facelift?
The 992.2 is just the facelift
@@EK-rr2md it comes with batteries;)
That's exciting
There are two ways to do a hybrid. One is the Lamborghini Revuelto (right way) and the other is like THE Lexus LC 500 (wrong way). If Porsche does it similar to what Lamborghini did, it'll be acceptable, if not, it'll be a fail. I hope they get it right and the sound stays.
It will be neither, it will be more like the Lambo Sian - a small 2kW supercapacitor "battery" - this allows for no traditional battery degradation (millions of charge/discharges with no degradation), lightweight and invisible to the driver.
@@MrSchn3ll that would be great
explain both, please
Jetzt gibt es auch ein hybrides Klopapier...... BOAHHH. ZIEHT DAS DURCH DIE FURCHE ...... 1 ROLLE - 1 MILLION EURO .....😊
wtf putting electric in the car? e horse power is a way to deceive customers. so has the zero-sixty (0-60) improved? still staying at 3 sec or little under.
Last 60 years we have improved it, well now you ruined it putting any kind of electricity in that car. I hope your sales dropped to zero.
why people who cant afford this, are talking?
@@XHatersGonnaHate1 exactly ahaahaahah
Hahahaha
Why? Nobody wants that.
I always ask people with this die-hard cry for mannual transmissions, when was the last time you went into the dealership and purchased One new.
I don't want to hear about the stick shift transmission that you inherited from your dad or grandfather, or bought second hand.
Numbers are numbers, I want Porsche to be around for my son and his son. So they have to cater their market, to those future generations.
The 993 was my father's obsession, he eventually got a 996. I was blessed enough to buy a 991 new, and my son is probably going to break tradition because at 5 years old when I showed him the model Porsche cars the one he fell in love with is the Taycan 😂
The Porsche is not going to listen to Old heads and wishful thinkers, in the comment section that are not in the position to buy. They're going to do thorough demographic studies
So if you want stick shift and a roll cage you better pony up the bucks for a GT3, or you can get your boxer-engine manual fix at Toyota/Subaru 🤷♂️
They ruined a 911… this is a tragedy
The Hybrid 911 sucks. Sorry Oliver!
I can't wait for the 911 to go all electric. It will be so fast and silent with 1000 hp. The car meets will be so quiet and peaceful.
So a Taycan Turbo GT then
The longer the 911 stays with an ICE, the BETTER. Fact is, electric cars are just not good enough yet and the infrastructure to support them is decades away. Many people now ditching electric for petrol and car makers know it.
Just get a Taycan Turbo GT in that case😊
Is this a joke? That’s like calling a Snickers bar made with cabbage a Snickers bar
You must be one among very few. I hope it never goes electric
