    Great content! Just started exploring our northern Michigan marshland. A lot of it is state & federal land in a national forest. One part of the survey is to find our property boundaries. Using property tax info, I can get close to our pins with a gps. Two points are squarely in the marsh. Just for LARPing fun, I am looking for a 'back door' marshland way off of our property to dry land w/o encroaching on private property. Will carry the 870. I want to know this place like my old childhood neighborhood.

    As far as pant/boots I feel pretty qualified to comment on that. I hog hunt with dogs in swamps year round, and have put a lot of boots through their paces. First off, pants need to be unbloused. You need tall socks (not crazy tall, just about halfway up your lower leg). You need jungle boots. I have put a few thousand miles on a pair of Rocky jungle boots and they have held up great except for I have probably replaced the laces 4-5 times after they break. They’re not the most comfortable boots though. I’m now using Nike SFB jungle boots (the brown/olive color that they discontinued) and they have been the best so far. Holding up great and very comfortable. Good boots is critical, a ankle boot sucks when you get in mud and it gets over the top of the boot. With a full height boot that doesn’t really happen even if you’re in deep stuff because they’re higher up in the pants. The MOST critical thing is having boots that drain. You absolutely do not want to try and keep your feet dry. They ARE going to get wet, so you need to be able to walk them dry quickly. Water should flow in and out easily. It should go without saying, you need big deep lugs or you’re going to slip and slide every time you have to cross water and try to get up the bank on the other side.

    In my personal experience blousing your boots does a good job of keeping the insects out but you have to do it the way us 03's do it where you put the bootband below your ankle. But on the other side of the coin doing this is a good way to trap water in if you do a bunch of water crossings or are stepping in a lot of deep puddles so like everything its situation dictates.

    • @opfor8r
      @opfor8r 2 роки тому +2

      I almost don't count the blousing band trick because its barely "blousing" by being at the ankle. But youre totally right, its more of a pant leg cinch when done like that. Good call!

    Given your past videos, would I be correct in assuming that leather boots are a no-no in swamps?

    • @opfor8r
      @opfor8r 2 роки тому +1

      Pretty much, yeah. Not ideal. Most leather boots are more suited for temperate and mountain areas, where its preferable to have goretex. There may be some boots that break that mold or are better suited.

    Awesome videos. I’ve spent a lot of time hunting in big cypress and all over Florida (mostly central). I’ve always been a gun guy but got into the preparedness aspect in the last year or so when I started to see the relationship between my flat range shooting hobby and my hunting/camping. Found you after finding the Longhouse podcast after seeing them on the art and war podcast last week. Awesome to see another guy from Florida. I’ve always used waders or snake boots while hunting, but I really like the idea of having lightweight quick drying boots like you mentioned. In search of something resoleable, have you ever tried the McRae or surplus jungle boots? Can’t wait to see more videos.

      the green black mcrae jungle boots are a little behind the times but still great boots and they use true dms construction like the og jungle boots instead of a glued soles
