    Couldn’t quite make out the name of the book you were reading let me know what it is🧐

      The Shetland Bus, by David Howarth. An absolute must read - the story is unbelievable. Seamanship beyond comprehension.

    I have a rival 32 from 1981. Mark 3. Only had her a few months but she sails amazing. Great to see another happy R32 owner.

    • @sailingmaalie
      @sailingmaalie  Місяць тому +1

      I think the MK3's are the smartest! Does yours have the keyhole bulkhead?

    • @timdhines
      @timdhines Місяць тому +1

      @sailingmaalie no the previous owner must have removed that. I have 2 wooden struts coming down to support the coach roof but the rest has been opened up to let light thru and feeling of space.
      Love your solar setup, that's something I need to do later. And wind vane!

    • @sailingmaalie
      @sailingmaalie  Місяць тому +2

      @timdhines same as ours, no keyhole - and we really feel its more of an open space without it. Solar arch setup we built ourselves with parts from Seascrew.co.uk. Each panel can rotate 360° and tilt to follow the sun. Not so important in the tropics but above 55°N it makes a huge difference on solar input. And the self-steering is a Hebridean Wind vane 👍🏼

    What a great video. Superb crossing. You really capture the reality of what it is like to sail offshore on a small but very seaworthy yacht. Cannot wait for the next episode :) Bon Journee!

    Terrific sailing, splendid passage. What a team the three of you make. Didn't know there was a book about the Shetland Bus. As I understand it Orca aren't as keen on skeg hung rudders. Fair winds 🌬⛵️

    • @sailingmaalie
      @sailingmaalie  Місяць тому +5

      Yup I'm well behind on editing. But good things come to those who wait? The reality is that I just can't justify sitting in an anchorage editing, when there is hiking/diving/fishing to be done. Now we have just hauled out for winter and I have a land-based desk. Lots coming soon :)

    Hey, kudos for noticing the migrating turnstones! Very nice ride you had! Can I ask, what kind of gas bottle (propane gas) you used that can be filled wherever you went? Every country has their own quirks and I wonder how one goes about it on a long journey where one spare bottle isn't enough.

      There's always a bird to spot(or hear!) where ever you are! We use 2 x 6kg Calor tank from the UK. One tank does us about 2.5-3 months of cooking. We managed to easliy fill at industrial gas plants in the Canaries, Caribbean Bermuda and Canada - most places have tons of adaptors they can try to find one specific to the tank. Sites like Noonsite.com and No foreign Land are so helpful in researching info like this - where to get free water, how to clear in to countries etc. Hope that helps!

    D'un coté je suis les furieux et autres furieuses qui déboulent à 30 nœuds à bord de leur planche en carbone à plusieurs millions d'euros, à savoir qui bouclera la boucle le premier, et de l'autre, je suis le sillage de Maalie qui file peinarde ses 7 nœuds avec à son bord un jeune couple qui vit l'une de leurs plus belles expériences de vie...
    Prenez le temps, savourez, et n'hésitez à nous faire partager encore longtemps votre aventure.. Merci pour ça et bon vent à vous trois!

      Les furieux et furieuse nous impressionnent aussi, mais nous somme content de pouvoir nous arrêter et découvrir chaque mouillages! 7 nœuds ça c'est quand est vraiment rapide par contre ahah Merci énormément de nous suivre et on compte continuer à partager tout ça encore un moment, vive la haute mer!
