  • Larry Nelson played the final 36 holes in 132 strokes (10 under par), a record that still stands, to edge defending champion Tom Watson by a stroke at Oakmont Country Club. His performance included a 62-foot birdie putt on the 70th hole to help cement the victory.

    Nelson started golf at age 21 !!
    This proves that a person can do most anything if they put their mind to it. Very few things are impossible. Faith can move mountains

    Nelson went back to Oakmont around Christmas of 1983. At the members urging, he tried to recreate the putt at 16; but despite several attempts, he never came close to repeating his Open putt.

    What irons did Nelson use to win the Open ?

      I think hogan irons

      '73 Apex irons, with a lot of lead tape would be my guess.
