Pearl Bordered Fritillary butterfly in Vert Wood, East Sussex, 17 May 2024

This fritillary is managed for specifically by British Butterfly Conservation on this reserve. Park Corner Heath Reserve has wide rides with short vegetation. This contains violet for the caterpillars' foodplant, and Bugle flowers for adult nectaring (as seen in the video). Direct Sun is also usually required for the May flight of the butterfly, and fortunately I was blessed with a wonderful bright day for filming, taking place between 11am and 1pm.
