- From Melbourne to Hobart in an inflatable boat. Along the way Malcolm Douglas shows the life of fishermen, mutton-birders and abalone divers and the famous Killicrankie diamonds. The rich history, fascinating wildlife and unique coastline are also featured.
That video is breathtaking in adventure, nothing filmed and produced today comes close. It's just so perfectly concise and to the point, no fluff, no annoying melodramatic sound effects, no lamentations of the lame adventurer about their ordeal before hand, no cultivation of stress, no fixation on the danger, just pure action and adrenaline and clear relaxed explanations. Again nothing comes close today.
Malcolm in cold-weather gear, a rare sight. Wish he'd done more along the south coast.
"Reasonably dangerous" lol Malcolm is a Hard AF true blue ~ good upload thanks for sharing.
What a absolute legend.
Gee Malcolm really saw the best of Australia
Love the original music. Very sad to hear of Malcolm's accident. RIP
"From Melbourne to Hobart in an inflatable" Ya just don't here those words strung together. Bugger that. I thought the ferry was a hell ride! MD you absolute legend.
Lolololoololololololololol you reckon that's brave? I once heard a story of a guy windsurfing to tassie!
@@the-naked-sailor ya "heard" . I guess ya just ski over on a single? good for you
Nobody does this stuff anymore not as grass roots and tough as nails ...
Malcolm Douglas is was will always be The legendary advenurer who opened Australia up to off grid adventure and ethical environmental practices...
Vale Malcolm Douglas true Aussie legend....
I can't help but wonder about the amazing footage he would have gotten in his hay day if he had access to todays go-pro's and drones, he did amazing things for the equipment that was available.
That's not true. I'm doing adventures like this every day cobber
@@Jay-vk9nulets see it
apart from when he ripping the jaws from tiger sharks for momentos
@@rassawhelan6045 tiger sharks decimate sea turtle and dugong populations, so I applaud him for his effort at conserving beloved animals. No one likes big sharks except the same subset of people who defend pit bulls and convicted death row inmates like Rodney Reed and Julius Jones. It's like a defect or something. Even dogs instinctively hate sharks. The whole world would be better off without the great white, tiger, bull, and oceanic white tip.
AWESOME DOC....
malcolm douglas sound be in the Australian Curriculum
if anyone could have found the tasmanian tiger it would have been malcolm.
The ship is still salvageable... Alot the damage will buff right out
24:12 I’m sure the abalone divers had to rebrand.
The cape baron geese now are on seal rocks Phillip Island

Sad about Truganini.. she just wanted her ashes scattered or just to be left in peace but, 2 years after burial, her skeleton was exhumed and put on display by Tasmania museum for over 50 years then taken to London until 2003 when her remains were brought back to Australia to finally be put to rest.
how weird to hear him talking about Port Arthur's dark history before the 1996 shooting massacre that changed gun laws in Australia for ever.
Legend.😎🇬🇧🏴
Watching more video i realize MD was also a naturalist, humanist, ethnologist, adventurer, fisherman, seaman, skipper, climber, diver, mechanic, cook, journalist, writer, explorer, rescuer, wildlike expert, hunter, father and husband. But of all these he was one of the last true real adventurer like must have existed in the 19th an 18th century Also his humanity and compassion and kindness for all animals is palpable and command respect and admiration.
