Mini: *Comes with clear durable base*
Rybonator: *chucks it in the trash*
D&D mugs. What's a campaign without a tankard! I have my own design I like (no way to make them really but meh) but I would love to see what you come up with
“Look this water is lava, just go with it. I am not going to spend the time making another”.
I say as I use this for yet another campaign.
You SHOULD be proud of this build! Good balance of textures and colors to give it life! Just imagine the players coming across THIS on their river voyage! Holy 7 voyages of Sinbad!
I have plans of this being an encounter that is due to a force they are dealing with currently, BUT in future campaigns, I want this to just be a rumored "Roaming Statue" that players can attempt to kill if they ever feel brave enough!
To whoever left that dislike you need to take it back haha.
I listened to your advice, and checked out Black Magic Craft honestly I like your videos more. Your projects are really cool, and make me wanna start creating stuff haha
Lol I assume it was somebody who wanted to see more dice videos. BUT THEY ARE COMING I SWEAR :P
Hey well I am glad that you like my stuff :) We both tackle different projects, so you can always bounce between depending on what you need. If you do start crafting, send me some pics! I'd love to see what you create :)
@@Rybonator I definitely will!! I would really like to start doing epoxy craftd
Really nice work. Looks fantastic! You should be proud!!!
Thank you :) I really appreciate that. I honestly didn't think the water would turn out as well as it did, but I am really happy with it!
Dry brushing is black magic. It is so easy a child could do it yet it takes a price from looking mediocre to looking like it took dozens of hours. Also it works for almost everything from cloth, to armour, to rock, to scales. BLACK MAGIC!
I totally agree! When I first learned how to do it I was like... This is it... THIS IS HOW PICASSO DID IT ALL?!
Looks amazing, I wouldn't of thought of using modpodge for texturing the water, very innovative of you!
I have heard of people using mod podge for a gloss coat on resin dice, so I figured it would have to work here :)
I like a black paint modge podge combo for a protective layer on most all my crafts and terrain
The only reason I don't do that here is because it was going to be coated around with the resin, and cork is much more durable than foam, so the mod podge isn't AS needed as foam is :)
Amazing knight sculpture, and an even more ridiculously amazing base to accompany him! You sir need more views and more subs!! I can't wait to get my hands working on a diorama like this one ❤
Btw, my diorama suggestion will be a 'course of straahd interior castle' theme (sorry if a butchered the name)
They are coming in slowly but surely :) Hopefully one day I can take this full time if enough people see/share to where I can get the right amount of views to make that happen.
Ohh a vampire castle would be great :D I am looking into getting into warhammer, and getting some undead armies, so that might just be perfect!
@@Rybonator oh I'll be sharing around my circles your videos mate! I can see real love and care for your craft and that pleases me. The first thing that crossed my mind about the vampire castle theme is a level design from a game called champions of norrath for the ps2. They had some elegant and elaborated statues the where pouring blood out of a central interior river that connected each other. They where really majestic and grim!!
@@palgaea That is very much appreciates friend :) Thank you!
I haven't heard of that, but I'll for sure be looking into it! I watched the netflix castlevania series a few weeks ago, and so I have great desires to have a gothic castle like that haha :)
That turned out so good! I can't wait to see the miniature bases you come up with like this!
this was absolutely amazing, especially for your first attempt at a diorama. (i will never try this because i am absolute trash at arty stuff like this, but i still enjoyed watching the video, its always nice to see the process of amazing creations)
Thank you :) I appreciate it. I honestly am really bad at artsy stuff as well, this is more just knowing the process and making it happen :) You totally could if you tried!
It came out really amazing, this one would make for quite a boss battle.
Here's an idea, how about making a diorama with miniature buildings for a world map?
I am hoping that it will be one to remember for my players :)
That is a cool idea! I'll have to look into that and see what I can come up with :)
Wow...this was great and more ideas to use on some Bones aquatic creatures as well.
These bases looks so cool! Thank you for making theses videos it’s so cool to watch!
That looks absolutely amazing, good job, can't wait to hear the story for that fight.
Damn, that's incredible work - It looks amazing! You're a braver man than I, I would have probably pinned the giant mini using brass rods but I'm paranoid lol Looks incredible, I love that pure high mountain river effect you achieved! And yeahx seeing resin poured is weirdly satisfying lol
Fair play to you for shouting out your inspiration too :)
Thank you, I really appreciate hearing that. :)
I know I should have pinned it down, but I honestly was more afraid of messing up the work I had already done haha. Here's to hoping that Gorilla Glue marketing isn't all just blowing smoke!
I always try and credit where I get my ideas from, as the originators of the idea should get the credit. I hope that people will do the same for me. :)
I personally would love to you do either a dragon or a beholder. If you were doing dice, try a different color of glowing dice, maybe a Mystic set of dice that glow purple or a Paladin set that glows yellow.
I can try and tackle one of those some time :) I have plenty of dragon models that have gone unpainted thus far. Maybe they need a coat of paint and a diorama.
Nice vid. You should dry brush some texture/shadow on the knight.
Ohh that would be a great idea. It would make him look even more statue-esque :)
Damn dude that looks amazing!!! Really clever techniques and very well explained, thank you Rybo :)
Thank you :) I am glad you like it! I am really pleased with how this turned out.
That is fantastic. Keep up the good work. I agree, it came out perfect.
Have you ever thought about making cool looking resin keycaps? I think you could come up with very nice looking stuff!
Hmm I haven't, I feel like it would be really difficult to get a good casting of them. Maybe I'll look into that :)
Great idea and execution! I would do such for myself on the floor! :)
Clear packing tape also works as a resin barrier, in case you make anything that you might want to pour a greater volume of resin onto for more height.
Also, dunno why anyone would give you a hassle for using a pre-made wash. Even when using it for large projects like this, its still going to last you quite a while so you'll still get your money's worth and its got the benefit of being very convenient; no trying to find the right color of paint you want, then mixing it with water and a surfactant.
Good to know! I knew it would hold, but I didn't know if it would stand up on it's own like the scotch tape did for this. I'll give that a shot if I pour large volumes :)
Haha yeah some people do though for terrain. Which I get, you can save money, but sometimes convenience outweighs the savings to me!
Wow, I have never been this early, already gonna say great video, because you make great videos. :D
Thank you :) I really appreciate that. Hopefully this one did not disappoint!
@@Rybonator It did not disappoint at all. Makes me want to make one, and I learned some good techniques from it.
That was awesome man!! I loved this! You should do more stuff like this I finally had the time to just sit back and watch and I'm super stoked to start building mine!
Thanks again and keep up the great work!!
Thanks! I am glad you liked it. :) I plan to try and do some more stuff like this in the future! I like base building a lot.
@@Rybonator thanks man that's gonna be awesome! I love terrain building! I can't wait to see what else you'll do next!
Great video.
My 2 cents: The best bond would have been Wood Glue between the unpainted base and the cork. You want to use wood glue whenever you're using wood on anything resembling wood, if you don't need the glue to be clear. Super Glue, (cyanoacrylate), doesn't really bond to much of anything. In extreme temperatures it can even just crack off. The only other thing you could use to get a permanent bond is 2 part epoxy resin, but most people don't want to deal with it.
Also - you can dump denatured alcohol on top of hot glue - it should pop right off.
Hmm I thought wood glue would have to be between two pieces of wood, didn't know it would work well with other materials. I'll have to give that a shot next time! Thanks for the tip. Also thanks for the hot glue tip haha. It REALLY got stuck on there :)
@@Rybonator
Yeah - Cork IS a wood. Anything wood related works - MDF, paper, cardboard.
Wood glue is hyper-PVA. It, of course, is designed specifically for hard-core wood-working.
I once glued a couple layers of cork together with wood glue for a mini base and - hell yeah, that crap's never coming apart. May as well have used Epoxy Resin.
*Rybonator:* 12:46 - 12:51 (5 seconds) "Hey, look at this neat and somewhat imposing statue."
*The Giant:* Bro, I'm super cool. I mean, goodness knows how much time was put into me, how many artists looked over my design and approved it. I'm the centerpiece of many a DM's shelves and campaigns.
*All The Dice Goblins:* 12:19 - 12:45 (26 seconds) "Haha, yeah, that's cute. BUT DAYYUM RYBONATOR..."
This statue is incredible but i would have prefered keeping the normal base mounting so that the clear base could have been used in areas like rooms or places without water :P
Oh normally yeah that's exactly what I would do. I just had a specific encounter in mind when making this, as well as I wanted to give water dioramas a shot, and go big or go home right? :)
Damn, now I wanna do a full on river army/crew with resin.
Oh this was awesome. I love to see your channel grow! I still remember when I started following you. You had a whole whooping 13 subscribers. LOL😂 I want the edible dice! 🎲 Won't you let me send you my silicone mold of my huge one? 😯❤ My suggestion to you is make a huge die with a miniature inside it! 😱
Long time sub haha :) Thanks for sticking around constantly.
The only reason I didn't have you send it, is I planned to make a d20 mold of my own from a large dice haha. BUT if you wanna send it, I would gladly use it in a future vid :) And I'll work on the mini inside a dice idea!
You should've painted the riverbed a sandy/greenish colour to make it looj more rivery
I thought the resin would turn it a bit more green than it ended up doing, but I didn't wanna add more water based dye, as it would run the risk of ruining the resin. Next time I will!
the only thing that bothers me its the gloss of the statue, besides that, amazing work
I didn't make the statue, so I agree. But you could totally spray it with some matte varnish and fix the issue :)
Question: Could you potentially just vacume chamber your silicone molds after you pour your silicone on the dice?
Possibly - But you run the risk of dislodging the dice inside the silicone molds, with all the air pulling upwards against the dice. Just something to be aware of! And the bubbles can still get trapped under certain angles of the dice, as it would try to pull upwards, but would be unable to. You can do it though! :)
Will you ever livestream? I'm not a fan of them anymore but it might be a fun idea for you to consider!
I am not sure that my style really fits with a live stream - Most of the stuff is "Do this for 30 minutes, then wait for it to dry" haha.
Try BlackMagic Crafts' trick for painting miniatures, models, and terrain pieces... Mod Podge mixed with black paint. Coat the entire surface with it. It hardens nicely, strengthens everything, and bonds everything together well. :-)
So the only reason I didn't do that, is because that is more for foam than for cork. With cork, mod podge runs the risk of covering up some of the cragly bits that make it look so mountainous in the first place! But yes, for most other materials, BMC has an excellent trick :) (Even then, you could totally use it here, Just because I didn't doesn't mean you can't.)
I would like to to see the entire process of making a miniature.
Oh gosh, I will have to experiment with that haha. Do you mean like designing one from scratch, or putting one together from a kit?
Well, if you can I would like to see one designed from scratch. Great videos, keep it up 👍
Terrasque. You must do a terasque
i have to ask, do you ever sell stuff you’ve made?
Not YET, as I want to make sure that everything I do is legal to sell. This would be totally legal, but my dice are iffy since I use molds made from other company's dice.
What scale is this again?
So technically it's 1:64 scale, as most miniatures are 28mm. BUT this is just a GIANT figure in that world. It is supposed to be as large as a multi story building :)
@@Rybonator it's pretty awesome. Maybe use it as a massive statue for a final encounter. Modify the base so it sits more like a set piece and let your players run around under the statue of a great hero of long ago while they fight the bbeg and his followers
Oh snap, maybe instead of further modding the base just make some custom tiles to go around it.continue the river, perhaps a couple tiny bridges and a house for the statues keeper.
That's the plan! They have some serious encounters on their way in the next couple of weeks. :)
Bruh
A channel called Black Magic Craft has a great recipe for a brown wash that can save you the shot to the wallet.
I love BMC, and watch his videos often :) I quote him in a lot of my beginning videos for how to make black washes etc. I tried making a brown wash, but again just couldn't get the right color for this. I use a brown wash like his for brick textures sometimes, just not this one. He is great!
I have an idea (look in reply’s)
So you can make a staff like stand with the base at the bottom and top with a platform on top for the Dm’s stuff idk just thought of it
Hmm, I'm not sure what you mean. Do you have something in mind that you are thinking of replicating?
So you know the game clue right? Yeah the lamp post thing but instead of a straight line for the pole it’s carved into a staff or something like that
OH I think I know what you are talking about. I'll have to look into that! :)
The statue looks like the least detailed part of this now that i've seen the base being made.
Please never ever use expensive washes on huge builds. PLEEEEEASE
As I said, normally I make my own, I just couldn't get this exact shade right when I tried, and since this was going to be a very detailed build, I was willing to use it. But normally I do make my own washes :)
All the materials that I use in building this can be found at your local hobby store, but if you'd like to help support this channel, I have Amazon Affiliate links in the description that if you purchase from there, I get a small % kickback from your purchase. It doesn't cost you anything extra, and helps me out a ton. Thank you all for being so amazing and supporting this channel. :)
I wish folks understood just how much this helps us
It really does :) But of course, if you can buy locally, I totally support that as well!
