Surprised this video doesn't mention the intentional inaccuracy of the first measurement. When the British Officer Andrew Scott Waugh first measured and calculated the height of Mt. Everest, his result was exactly 29,000 feet. Not wanting people to think he made a rounding error, he added two feet to get the declared result of 29,002 feet.
It also means Waugh can be said to be the first person to ever put his two feet on Mt. Everest ;)

When the Nepalese surveyor took the GPS Static measurement last year, did he have the antenna rod measuring from the highest point of rock, or snowpack? FYI for people reading this who are not trained land surveyors: The maximum accuracy attainable from GPS equipmemt, using phase angle measurement of the L1 and L2 NAVSTAR GPS Satellite carrier frequencies, a Trimble Zephyr Geodetic quality antenna, and correcting the observations using the "Precise Ephemeris" published by the US Geological Survey, is about 15 mm horizontal and 40 mm vertical (measured from the Ellipsoid). To achieve a Circular Error of Position within this accuracy limit depends on a couple of other things: Observations totaling up to several hours every day, at all hours of the day and night for two weeks or more, guaranteeing that the antenna did not move at any time during the observations, and an accurate ground survey between the various control points. Since this GPS survey involved only 1 antenna on 1 mountain top, and not a network of several inter-related control points that could be surveyed and analyzed as a triangulation network, and there was only a single 2-hour long observation, the vertical measurement obtained would have had an accuracy of probably no more than plus-or-minus 100 mm (1/3 of a foot). But still much more accurate than any previous survey of Mount Everest, using optical triangulation with theodolites from observing stations dozens of miles away.
