My grandpa was on the cutter USS Woodbine acting as a search and rescue and icebreaker on Lake Michigan. It’s nice to see the recognition they deserve.

I want to collect acceleration and gyro data on a container ship at different positions and collect the data on a journey. Can some one help me get on a ship??
You're right I guess it actually has to do with how they bolster them together. When tipping occurs its better for them to be forced to roll off compared to being able to slide off if placed "horizontally". That's at least from the source I found
My guess is the loading and unloading process dictates the direction. Boats are alongside the peer at launch and containers are removed by cranes one at a time. The containers are unloaded directly onto semi trucks which haul them to a logistics yard. Not having to turn the containers 90 degrees would make that process safer. That just a guess.

Crazy to think something as big as an aircraft carrier can go faster than the speed linit on most rural roads. Def an amazing feat
Well the water is "softer" than the hard road
This is cool, but we send rockets into space at 30,000 miles an hour.
@@timngim583 what? water is SIGNIFICANTLY more drag than rolling on a hard road.
Neglected trafficked Children are in a lot of those containers.
Nimitz.. nuclear-powered Aircraft Carrier
Anyone else want one of those big ship models?
Yep. First thing that crossed my mind.
Yup, and it is going in a bathtub
Yes lmao
hell yea
What does the second half of the video have to do with saving money on vessel stability in storms?
The stronger the US Navy is the safer the security for the vessels, HA. They can save money from pirate attacks.
So how do we get from container ships and boats to how strong U.S navy is.
I thought the video changed😂
I a bit miffed icl
American propaganda haha, ships are insanely cool though
Good question, hey, I'm gonna stop by the Navy recruiter real quick though...for some reason.
ohio
“When operating in the frigid north” said the voiceover as penguins as waddling across the snow. That’s a fail folks.
Yeah I saw and heard that then pmsl...hmm perhaps American schools should teach what animals are in the frozen North....what next tell us about the South Pole whilst showing polar bears? 😂
These are the elusive northern penguins they migrate to the south pole for the winter following the schools of snipes

I have often wondered how adversely those giant under water explosions affect the marine life ?
My thoughts exactly.
Probably not good, but not a terrible effect
How often?
Crazy to think that Elon could've bought 3 of those carriers instead of buying Twitter. Not that it is sold to the public
Exactly for this reason: there are more ships for sale and lease than free speech venues with large audience.
y buy one when u can design and make a better one?
Instead he bought oil platforms to convert them into Starship launchpads.

Do the penguins care? Do they know what country they’re in? Or what jurisdiction their under?
"their under"
'They're under' actually.

Me too. They’re looking great!

It would if we went nuclear
@@yegfreethinker
Why nuclear? The environmental cost of nuclear is colossal and yet to be realised. Most people think nuclear is safe!
@OverlandTT that's funny cause we already have nuclear powered carrier ships.

Why does everyone look at aircraft carriers as these massive ships?
If they were so massive, jets wouldn't need assisted take off or arresting gear.
It interesting! They make the comment of operating in the north and then show penguins.
I can't understand why they don't stack the containers 90 degrees to their current position, this will give more stability in itself.
You can fit more that way

Rescue boats are not as top heavy as container ships.
The last place I would want to be on would be a carrier. You can't block a hyper sonic missile.
Hypersonic missiles need nukes instead of normal chemical explosives so it's use is essentially a declaration of war
