The section you read up to about :45 seconds in to the video, is a concept in boxing known as "admiring your work", and is dangerous. It is when a boxer performs a technique successfully, and then pauses for a moment. It is a psychological pause, as if they were "admiring their success", and is dangerous because it is precisely in that moment when the opponent has the best opportunity to clobber them. It's fascinating to me how from culture to culture, era to era, the same realities keep getting expressed, albeit in slightly different terms.
I might be very wrong (I am faaaaaaaaar from being an expert), but I think not having a tsuba on your bokken is disserving you; your hands are really far from each other and you probably train your arms and body with wrong motions. The day you wield a real katana (or anything with a clear "blade" separated from the handle by a guard), you won't be able to move your body the same way because leverage will be done from different places for your hands. Unless you always "half-sword" but it didn't look to me like half-sword moves. Again, I might be wrong. (Sorry for my broken English, it's not my native language.)
So any staff, stick, baton, etc could be and should be picked up, what are we talking about here? Defending your life, so why the fuck would you use just your hands......silly

👍🏻 Another good video ⚔️
Efficient and good demonstration of technique and speed.
I respectfully disagree. This man's movements are way too stiff for a practitioner of samurai martial arts
Ouch.
