I know you posted this years ago, but i have this exact karaoke version of this song on a cdg (disk) which no one plays anymore at a karaoke show, as its all on computers now, but each time i sang it over the years, i knew how true it was and would become. My (late) mom loved this song, so i loved it too and sang it a few times and i hope to sing it again when i venture back out to karaoke some day soon. :-)
So wie ich das mitbekomme im Original von Mary Hopkin, sind die Strophen aber in einer anderen Reihenfolge, nämlich so: Once upon a time there was a tavern Where we used to raise a glass or two Remember how we laughed away the hours Think of all the great things we would do Those were the days my friend We thought they'd never end We'd sing and dance forever and a day We'd live the life we choose We'd fight and never lose For we were young and sure to have our way. La la la la... Just tonight I stood before the tavern Nothing seemed the way it used to be In the glass I saw a strange reflection Was that lonely woman really me Those were the days my friend We thought they'd never end We'd sing and dance forever and a day We'd live the life we choose We'd fight and never lose For we were young and sure to have our way. La la la la... Through the door there came familiar laughter I saw your face and heard you call my name Oh my friend we're older but no wiser For in our hearts the dreams are still the same Those were the days my friend We thought they'd never end We'd sing and dance forever and a day We'd live the life we choose We'd fight and never lose For we were young and sure to have our way. La la la la...

Necesito la pista y se escucha muy bien en la letra hay un pequeño error "For we were young and sure to have our way" sólo se dice una vez en el primer verso. Gracias por subirla
Mary Hopkin was recommended by the model "Twiggy" to be signed to the Beatles' Apple record label. The Library of Congress has the song listed as Apple 004. The song hit #1 in Great Britain and topped out at #2 in the US with the Beatles at #1 with the song "Come Together". I'm a trivia nut and like to share info like this.

It's not "written by Gene Raskin", it's a Russian folk song. Or rather a Russian Gypsy song.
The song was actually written by Boris Fomin, not by Gene Raskin
It should Music by Boris Fomin and Lyrics by Gene Raskin. Since the original had very differet lyrics, to claim it is a translation
