The tail would possibly break if you tried pushing into something hard. Maybe try using modelling paste instead of fondant as that will set much firmer x
This is such a good tutorial. As a complete beginner, to practice, can I use ready to roll icing to create these? They are to go on my first attempt at cakesicles, how many days in advance can you make them (so that they can still bend around the edges of the cake). Thank you ☺️
Thank you hun x I use ready to roll icing (sugarpaste) to make mine. If you want them to firm up so they sit up straight on a cupcake, then I would give them at least a day to dry. You can make them as far in advance as you like (they will last as long as the sugarpaste is in date), just store them in a box (not air tight). If you want them to sit flush against a cake, I would just make them as you need them x
@@NautyLittleTreats Thank you so much for getting back to me - really appreciate it. That's really helpful. I'm going to get some icing and have a little practise as my mermaid and shell moulds arrived today x
You don’t let them dry in the mould hun, you remove them immediately and let the tails dry overnight on a foam pad or in a cardboard box (not air tight)
Sorry for the confusion my lovely x sugar paste and fondant are the same thing. In the uk we tend to call if sugar paste where as in the us they call it fondant x
@@NautyLittleTreats I used CK crusting buttercream. I recently made them again and this time made the tails with candy melts. This worked much better for me.
Great video, just got this mould today. Can’t wait to make some of these. Can I ask which colour of rainbow dust you used to give the lovely shine? Thanks x
What specifically cocktail sticks did you use and what size? Ive tried to use 6 inch bamboo sticks and its not working the fondant keeps breaking off :( please help let me know !
Can anyone help me out here...I made a trial run today of these. And they all broke and cracked in half literrally! at the narrow part of the tail. :( PLEASE HELP this is my first time using fondant!
bmtownsend08 hi Hun x I find it sticks better when the fondant is a little tacky as it does break easily if it's too dry x I prefer to colour my own fondant when doing these as it makes the fondant the right consistency for me x hope this helps x
hi hun x you can make them in advance, just keep them in a box (not air tight). don't put them in the fridge or freezer as they will go very sticky when brought back to room temp x hope this helps x
If you wet the end of the cocktail stick they'll go in a little easier 😉
❤️❤️❤️
Those are so cool definitely going to try to make it
Thank you my lovely x x
Oh wow they are beautiful, off to try and find some moulds to do this lol... xx
thank you my lovely x
Very beautiful!♡♡♡
Thank you x
Wow is beautiful
Ary Rior thank you sweetie xXx
How can I keep the tail from breaking to place it on a hard candy apple? Leave the tooth pick in?
The tail would possibly break if you tried pushing into something hard. Maybe try using modelling paste instead of fondant as that will set much firmer x
Which piping tip you used for the cream ?
I believe this was a Wilton 2D x
is that all fondant?then it will fall i guess, needs to be steady and little hard so u can put in a cake
Yes it’s just fondant. I insert a cocktail stick which helps it and to push inside the cupcake, but leave the tail overnight to firm up before using x
Hi do you add the cocktail stick to support the end fin or is it for ease of adding these on top of the cupcakes?
It does work for both, but mainly so they stay in/on the cupcakes, especially in transportation x

May I ask what kind of frosting you used with these cupcakes? Thanks!
I used standard American buttercream (double icing sugar to unsalted butter) x
Nauty Little Treats thank you. Did the fondant melt with the buttercream? It’s quite hot here in the Philippines.
Nauty Little Treats thank you! Your cupcakes are so beautiful. Hope i can make the same.
They are beautiful what icing did you use I got a mermaid tail Mould from eBay I’ve tried to make these but they full apart crack off at the tail .
I use renshaws fondant hun x if your fondant is a little dry, maybe try kneading it a little more as sometimes the heat from your hands can help x
Thank you I have bought some of that fondant today. How long do they have to dry for before you can use them mine just don’t seem to set . Liz
So pretty
thank you x x
Success! They looked amazing your video really helped me thank you! Don’t know how to send a pic to show u tho x
So glad you liked the video and your cakes were a success x x if your on instagram then tag me in your post 💞

Hi. How long should it take for it to dry and stiffen?
It will be different everywhere due to different climates, but I like to leave mine overnight x
How long do you let it dry for before removing from the mould? Ive never used sugarpaste before.

Greetings where connsigo that same molder that you used in this creation, please if you can give me the page.
it was purchased from www.icedjemsshop.com
Beautiful!!!! I tried these but my fondant mermaid tails fell apart a little after applivation. Any tips???
Anna Francisco hi sweetie, the fondant needs to be a little tacky, so very well kneaded or fresh out the packet x hope this helps x
What did you use to dust cornflour in mould? Thanks s
I keep my cornflour in a muslin square pouch x you can buy the pouches at some online cake supply shops x
You mentioned sugar paste in comments but said fondant used in tails.. new to fondant..
What is sugar paste and when did you use it?
Sorry for the confusion my lovely x sugar paste and fondant are the same thing. In the uk we tend to call if sugar paste where as in the us they call it fondant x
I let mine dry overnight but once they were on the cupcakes and had absorbed some icing the tails pretty much melted. Any suggestions?
What icing did you use?, mine have never done that before, and I’ve honestly made so many of these x
@@NautyLittleTreats I used CK crusting buttercream. I recently made them again and this time made the tails with candy melts. This worked much better for me.
Candy melts work lovely in the mould too and taste better lol x
How long do you let these dry for, overnight?
+Veronica Cortes minimum a few hours, but over night is best x
Thank you, I'll be making them this weekend.
Zwhere do you get the mermaid tail molds?
I purchased the mould from www.icedjemsshop.com x
Can we use that mermaid mould for chocolate?
Have you tried it!?
I’ve used it with candy melts before and they turned out lovely x
how far in advance can you make these and how would you store them?
I make mine up to a week in advance and store them in a box, breathable, not air tight. A cupcake box would work x
@@NautyLittleTreats Thank you for your quick reply :-) ....... I'll give um a go seeing I've had all the tools for over a month lol.

How far in advance can I make the tails? X
I make mine a few days in advance, but you can make them a week or so in advance x as long as they are stored in a breathable box x
@@NautyLittleTreats breathable box?

I make my toppers up to a week in advance x just keep them in a cardboard box (not air tight) to keep any dust etc away from them x
Hello Miss. Could you please tell me how many tails I can make using 500gms of fondant? Like a rough estimate?
Hi sweetie x I’m sorry I honestly couldn’t say, I’ve never tried or tested that, but it would also depend on the size of your mould x
Where can I purchase the edible rainbow dust from ?
