I love kirtabier from Ayinger, which is an unfiltered version of fest märzen. Haven't tried fest märzen, but I appreciate kirtabier for the low carbonation and the great malty and grainy profile. The distributor here in Norway informed me that Ayinger is a special brewery. They believe in getting their barley from local farmers and growing their hops in cooperation with the farmers, plus taking no short cuts in the brewing process, basically doing it like they did 100 years ago, they don't believe in short cuts like high gravity brewing and so on. Anyways, I think flat and underwhelming to describe the Ayinger Fest märzen could scare some people off, but I think you did a great finish to the review, pointing out that the differences is what attracts and encouraging to use the information to make up ones own mind. Skål!
We traveled to Munchen, Germany in 2023 and attending Oktoberfest was a bucket list check! We visited the Hacker Pschorr and Paulander tents. IMHO my order of favorites is the following and it is very clear. Ayinger is by far the best tasting, then Hacker Pschorr, and then Paulaner. Ayinger tastes very similar to a mellow homebrew and is very different than the other two. Ironically, after trying every Oktoberfest in the market over many years, I have settled and always have all three in my my cave fridge.
When I lived in Cincinnati my beer of choice was Paulander Hefen-wiezen (my spellings is probably way off) to my understanding is a wheat beer. I find it rarely if I go to the mostly German - American towns where I live now.
Thanks Berz. I am not usually an Oktoberfest beer fan, and for the last few years I haven't been drinking much beer in general, so I have not had any Oktoberfest in a long time. I do like Spaten, so that is what I probably would order, but if I can find any I will give the Hacker a try. Our tastes aren't identical, but you haven't really steered me wrong with your reviews up to this point.
I work for a Miller/Coors distributor. We carry lots of brands of beers including Sam Adams, and many somewhat local brewers. We also carry Paulaner and Hacker. Unfortunately I have never tried either of them. Sadly the only experience I have with Oktoberfest style beers is American brewers like Sam Adams, Leinenkugel, and local craft brewers. Cheers nonetheless
Capn, thanks for the beer review.. It's been quite awhile since I hade a beer. I'll have try the "Hacker". I'm more of a "Porter" style beer fellow. Cheers, Mate.
I noticed that metallic taste with the Paulaner Oktoberfest as well. Hacker Pschorr would be my favorite of these 3 too! Paulaner’s Oktoberfestbier (the clear 6% version) is really good! Can’t wait for this Oktoberfest season 2023, I’m gonna try all of them!! 🍻
Ive tried over +50 different Oktoberfest/ marzens/festibeirs over the years. In my most humble opinion Ayinger is what i base my reviews on. They are close to perfect
It changes year to year for me. Typically, what I get is the following: Ayinger - thickest and sweetest, but less carbonated Paulaner - more balanced, in fact the most balanced of them all Hacker pschorr - super similar to paulaner, a bit more hoppy which makes it more raw imo I only know this because it was the first German beeer I ever tried, and my favorite beer in the whole world. I look forward to August every year for this beer

Very nice man, different type of videos. Love how the channel has branched out from the ole days. Thank you.
Glad you like them!
Nice i made the right chouce. Costco had Hacker on sale for $15 for a 24pk bottles yesterday
I haven't had these, but need to try them. Great lakes brewing out of Cleveland makes a great Oktoberfest.
Oh, nice! Thanks for the endorsement, I’ll look around for that.

Interesting.
Same I've only tried Hacker and feel it's the best beer I've ever had I'm going to have to stock up on this stuff

Yea, worth a try! 👍

Yea, I like Yuengling Oktoberfest. 👍

Right on! I think you’d like the darker Ayinger.

Check back with what you think this year!
I love Paulaners festbier the 6 percent pale version at Oktoberfest

Indeed!
I can't remember the last time I had any beer. Red wine and whiskey is all that I drink. Maybe I will have to try a beer. Great review as usual.
Thanks for watching!
A couple years ago I did an extensive (for me) sampling of Octoberfest available in my area. My choice was the Paulaner.
A fine choice!
Heck no ayinger is the best
Ayinger is awsome
I have never tried Ayinger but the Hacker and Paulaner are both awesome. I prefer the Paulaner and Hauf Brau is my favorite.
I will have to try the Hauf. Thanks for the recommendation!
Would drink water before I drank the one on the right. My fav's are Hofbrau and Weinstephen
Yea, Ayinger ain’t my fav either. 😂
Hacker is my favorite too.
Rock on! 🤟
All three are great.
Beer is acidic so drinking out of a stainless glass could impact the flavor. Same reason why acidic coffee tastes bad in a stainless glass.
Ayinger is tasty 🍞 bomb but HP is more sessionable w the crisp subtle hop flavor it has
Hofbräuhaus 🍺
👍
I love the Paulaner. Also I’m catholic is it’s an easy choice for me to choose the monk beer. Plus the oldest brewery in the world. Can’t beat it.
Yea, very cool!
Paulaner. Is excellent on taste
Agree!
Hacker and Hofbrau Marzens are both tied and tbe best and served at Oktoberfest
