I completely disagree that they won't drown. The next time you have an opportunity, pinch a flea between your fingertips to pick it up then submerge your fingers in a small glass of water, not hot water, and open and gently rub your fingers together to be sure it comes free under the water. It will drown! If it manages to float it will struggle to climb out and given an opportunity it may. But between the agitation of the water and detergent it will not survive! You can add detergent to the glass of water if you like. I think the info being offered here is either second hand or presumptive in nature. I would suggest that you be sure to not use a short wash load time or length.
I wash my clothes in hot water. It hadn't killed them yet .I even hate to put my clothes on
