  • In this video, I show you what it takes to change a knock sensor on a 2007 FJ Cruiser.
    In a shop, they bid it for 20 hours of work and over 4k in cost. I was able to do the work in about 4 hours.
    I show you the way I did it without having to pull the head off.
    I had mice get in and chew the wires up and made the FJ run like junk.

    Thanks for watching!
    ON TO THE NEXT ADVENTURE!

    Do you remember all replacement parts? 2 knock sensors, intake gasket set, anti freeze? Anything else? Great video! Thanks! I just took my Taco to mechanic, 16 hour job, early quote between $3 and $4, 000!

      Upper and lower intake gaskets. Knock sensors. Antifreeze. There is one o-ring on the crossover tube that I pinched that I had to replace. If you're careful you won't have to. It's just a simple o-ring though. I believe that was it

    I see how hard it is to remove the center pipe, front was ok but rear was stuck had to use channel locks and pry bar to get it to move and a lot of wiggling back and forth for a half hour but finally got it off !!!!

    I just purchased a ‘14 Tacoma with the same issue. I believe the FJ and Tacoma share the same 4.0 V6? We have the 6sp manual. Even though the CEL is on, no drivability issues.

    Is the pipe whose bracket is cut through the same pipe that is shown on page EM-96 (4th picture down) of the Engine Mechanical service manual? It indicates a non-reusable o-ring. If it is, due to the difficulty removing the pipe shouldn't it be replaced?

    • @bobsnextadventure
      @bobsnextadventure  2 роки тому +4

      That pipe definitely has o-rings on each end and I would recommend replacing them

      Thanks for your reply Bob. It looks like there are 2 videos describing this repair, this one and one by Shawn Wayne, neither mention it and it seems how hard you have to work it to get out it would need to be replaced. Couldn't see in the manual there is one on each end tho, thanks for that info.

    Just curious why you didn’t replace both sensors. Also, can you provide a link for the sensors, harness, and gaskets?

    • @bobsnextadventure
      @bobsnextadventure  3 роки тому +3

      I might not have shown on the video but I did replace both. Figured I better being I had it taken apart.
      As for the parts I didn't order them online. I believe I got the gaskets from O'Riley and the sensors were OEM from Napa.

    • @nordicpride9708
      @nordicpride9708 Рік тому +1

      @@bobsnextadventure Napa doesn’t sell the actual OEM sensors. Only Toyota has those for like $200 each lol. A good alternative is NTK(NGK) which are Japanese made. The harness is only like $30 online so in my opinion not worth repairing. Good video

    Hi, hope u answer this question please.
    I have 2020 hilux v6 engine same engine that is in you FJ. some weeks ago i had a mice in my engine bay, and so long there is no visible damge on wires, but now it have developed a knocking issue that only occur in high gears and in only 1800-2000 rpm. Do you think its because the mice maybe have eaten the knock sensor wire?. if yes why i dont have engine light on?.. my car have only 17000 km on it

    • @bobsnextadventure
      @bobsnextadventure  2 роки тому +2

      Hello, if I had to guess it would be a separate issues. From my experience even know my knock sensor wires were chewed up the engine never had a knocking noise. The main symptom I had was I lost a lot of fuel mileage. And had error codes. I am not sure what would cause your issue. Maybe bad fuel or low octane? Hope that helps.

    • @baybarsalzahir7098

      @@bobsnextadventure i use 97 octane, but im living in a country with a very bad fuel quality, which leads to fuel pump change more than normal. Between this video and on other, I’m about to do the same. The parts list kinda was hard to find besides having to watch videos. I’m hoping mine goes as smooth.
    You may or may not get back to me before I start tomorrow. What exactly did you unbolt on the front to allow the coolant tube to come out and anything needed to reinstall besides the bolts?

    • @bobsnextadventure
      @bobsnextadventure  2 роки тому +2

      It has been a while since I've done this. But mainly just top and bottom intake manifold. And I think there was one bolt on that tube. But I cut the other bracket as you saw. I am not sure if that helps. The fuel rail I believe can come out with the bottom manifold if I remember correctly. Don't have to come out the way I did it but it works either way
