This song was for the a generation that was left behind. An anthem that will always be important.
And that generation is now coming up in the adult world, forging its own path despite protests from the older people
POD is so underrated. If you just listen to the discography and hear how they evolved into this.
Agreed 💯 still listen today
@@tedkrillies5326 me too I listen to Satellite and Payable on Death albums weekly
"Boom" is another one of their super-hits, everyone has heard it in a movie or show at some point.
Agreed!!
YES!!! "Boom" is absolutely the next song which needs to be reacted to!
Right- Boom and Alive made it into a lot of movies and shows!
I heard that and bought the record the same day. It did not disappoint. Great, great band.
Yeah, that’s my go to..
Still applies 20 years later i remember clearly when this song came out…ugh, 1999-2002 high school here
More than ever, nothing's changed
So many good bands came out during that time period... I remember listening to Static-X and Sevendust
Me too lol
Class of 2002 here. I remember jammin this everyday at school 🤘🏼
Class of 2001. I felt this song, every word. Teen years and early adulthood were brutal for me.
P.O.D. was around before Linkin Park. So the vibes you feel in Linkin Park are P.O.D. Vibes.
You are correct!
technically, they all have "Public Enemy & Anthrax Bring Da Noise" vibes, lol
Yeaaaaah Boooooooyyyyeeeeeeeee! Lol
Debatable. I heard LP before I heard POD. You can't say one influenced the other when you can't say for certain they'd heard each other. I don't hear much Hybrid Theory or Meteora in this album beyond the baselines.
@tactkiller, I don’t think they influenced each other. They were 2000 miles away from each other and POD had at least five years head start anyways. I said that because Polo said he heard Linkin Park vibes in this song and that definitely isn’t the case. POD always had that rap/rock flow.
Alive...
Southtown..
Boom!
Sleeping wake.
Satellite.
My favorite... alive and Satellite .
One of my first cd's that I bought other than acdc black in black.
To add, they are a Christian band so their lyrics show it as well.
Those are the same songs I recommended 😅
Goodbye For Now
they're the kind of Christians that the Christian right despise, because they bring a message of hope and inclusivity, instead of using Jesus as a club to beat down anyone who isn't a white nationalist.
@@Hravokh
Oh yeah...
This song still hits hard to this day. When I first heard I was the youth in this nation, and I’m hearing it as a father. Hits totally different now. Amazing the power music has.
lol i was the youth of the nation when this was on the radio..
damn im old..
Lol same
Don’t worry it’s still on the radio, i’m 20 now feels weird to look back at kids younger than me
@@tjboylan20 Wait until you're 28 like me and reading comments like this. Same strange feeling. 😂😂
That chorus is absolutely electrifying with a live crowd. We basically sang the whole song at the top of our lungs. Crazy that the kids who learned about Columbine on live TV in their own schools are now sending their kids to school and things seem even worse.
There is no power in violence, only loss. Those who serve others are the real GOATs.
Went to HS down the street from Columbine so when it happened every school in the surrounding area was also locked down.
I remember that day well. I was attending school in the same district as Columbine
It especially hits when you know P.O.D. stands for Payable On Death.
Still love POD Satellite and Alive
Great band
That entire album is fire 🔥
Bro the drumb part still sends me shivers after all this time.
Another good Christian rock band from that time is switchfoot. Specifically check out The sound. Great song.
DC Talk and Switchfoot really should have been the staple
I met Sunny back in ‘97 and he was one of the coolest guys I’ve ever met. He spent a good 20 minutes just talking with me, and most of it was asking how my summer vacation before the last year of high school started. He was really sweet, walking with me to the next concert so I wasn’t alone. It was at a music festival with 150 bands playing over 3 days; mostly guys there so he was looking out for a young girl ❤ Thanks, Sunny- you made quite the impression! 👏👏
By the way, definitely check out P.O.D.’s song, Alive, from their album, Satellite! That’s one of my favorites of theirs! 🔥
Random fact: Satellite was released on September 11, 2001. 😔💝
This song is a heartbreaking song. It breaks me up so much to think of the kids being sung about
Boom, Alive and Southtown P.O.D. Stands for payable on death
These are all good and I'm glad placed "Boom" first. To me, it is absolutely the next song which needs to be reacted to!
POD was a staple in my high school days. The blend of metal and hip hop was so big then.
I'm a 58 year old white dude who doesn't usually like the vast majority of modern rap/hiphop, but MAN! this was mega cool. Jeez, Louise..
They were a rock band more in the vein of Rage. Plus this is like 20 years old.
It's played on rock radio in my area.
P.O.D is a nu metal/rap rock band 😁
The were more rock than rap. The industry was vreatingvthese bands from their look. This was one of the forst metal/rap bands. They were christian band. But the giveaway for all these bands was the one single would be so different from the rest of the album. It was very obvious certain bands mtv and the industry invested in in order to move the masses toward their new "sound" POD was one of the first that made this genre a popular one. Rock eventually moved to this darker lower tuned groove oriented sound. Korn was really first to break it but they were absolutely original. But mtv got ahold of them quick and the money made them change. Linkin Park was after this. But same vein for sure. RapRock. 311 was another one that was early on w this sound but they were more melodic traditional rock w a rapper/dj. Incubus too. If u listened to Incubus first few albums ud love it.
This isn't really that modern anymore (2001). Damn I'm getting old!
P.O.D. is a killer band to get into. They have elements of rock/metal/hip-hop/Latin/reggae all through their catalog. Arguably they'd be considered Nu-metal. So many good tunes to list it would take a while. They also have a new album dropping in May.
People Of Devotion. Clear and clean messaging.
I'm from San Diego as well and played with these guys a number of times. I got to know the drummer's dad quite well as he was the record label owner who released their first few records on his indie label. Great guys and they were definitely doing something fresh back in the late 90's and it finally hit big with 'Alive'. They didn't get the 'Christian band' flak other bands got because they delivered the goods and looked like they would beat your ass even though they were all sweet lovely guys.
I remember hearing this for the first time on the radio and then being surprised to find out they were a Christian band.
I'm over 50 and this is the first time I heard anything about them being a Christian band.
Also, the floor and backdrop of the part of the video with the band in it is all pictures of children who were murdered in school shootings.
Great Song
Powerful Message
1-POD has a new Song “Afraid to Die” Featuring Tatiana.
2-Alive
3-Boom
4-“Goodbye for Now”which has a pre pop star Katie Perry
Yup, I remember this one and their other hit which I can’t remember at the moment. I’m old.
Alive or maybe Boom
Love P.O.D!!!! I love this song, Satellite and of course Beautiful! They will actually be at Ufest this year in Arizona this month! ❤
Sad ro know the lyrics are more relevant in todays day and age than it was back when it first came out 🫤 always loved this song
It hasn't changed. Song is still great
They were very relevant for us too.
Heard them preform this live when they opened for Jinjer a couple years ago. It was incredible
Linkin Park sounds like POD. They started this vibe. When they broke out with Southtown they flipped the masses over. POD was the first on the major scene
POD has been around much longer than Linkin Park. In fact, POD, along with Korn, Deftones, and Rage Against the Machine, laid the foundation for Rap Metal/Rap Rock, and Nu Metal, that would take over the mainstream in the late 90s and early 2000s, with bands like Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Papa Roach, etc. I never cared for the aforementioned 2nd and 3rd wave of Rap Metal/Nu Metal bands, but I’ve always liked the OGs, like POD, and the Deftones to name a few.
POD has never really gotten enough credit for being there at the beginning. My guess is because they were tagged as a “Christian” band, due to the members strong Christian beliefs, and being on Tooth and Nail label, before they jumped to Atlantic Records in the late 90s.
The story goes something like this:
The band was driving to their recording space, when they drove past a school where a Columbine high school copycat shooting had taken place in their hometown. When they got to the studio, they could think of nothing else, and wrote this in a single day.
P.O.D.
Set your eyes to Zion
Strength of my life (Feat. Matisyahu)
Goodbye for now
YESSSS!!! Zion
Matisyahu... Anything! Lol
crazy thing about this song when thinking of the opening lyrics, is that it was their top song on 9/11
I absolutely love this song. It made my personal Top 10 last year. Sometimes gives me chills. Really strong band.
Absolutely love POD. They have so many great songs. I think I have seen them live four times and they never disappoint.
This song after all these years gives me goosebumps
LOVE THIS SONG!!!
I remember when it first came out, I was still in highschool. I was deep in depression, and this really helped me work through it.
Great song from back in the day 👌
This song is a testament to our culture. Being that he is singing about school sh-ting. Something a lot of other cultures don’t have issues with. But he speaks about this before all of the recent events… i hope our country and address mental health and that each others lives are vital to becoming a stronger country. May all beings be happy.
I lived in SD when these guys were coming up…..and I was in my youth- this song will always bring me back to my DagoDays, surfing Tourmaline and the nightlife in OB!
The whole album is fire, but my top 3 are:
1. Ridiculous ft. Eek-A-Mouse
2. Anything right
3. Without Jah, nothing
Oh This brings me back.
Hearing this song when it came out in grade 7 being the youth of a nation and the fact it came out after 9/11 it was pretty heavy
THANK YOU patreon member!!
The whole Satellite album is great and needs to be heard.
This song came out in the early 2000s and the fact that it's more relevant now is testament to the fact that society needs to change.
back when i was in high school this was an anthem.
Southtown is a better song-much harder. This is a bit more Pop than their earlier stuff. In my Youth Pastor days we built skate ramps and got all the neighberhood kids together to skate. Id give a little Jesus loves you speech and have something to eat, skate more, just get to know these young kids and tell them they mattered. Great memories.
SKILLET- Monster or Hero, hard new rock since 2000
I haven't thought about this song in decades. Instantly brings me back to that time.
Big SD represent , POD always supporting the troubled youth.
Thanks for doing this song. POD has been very important to me throughout my life. They have their ups and downs, like anyone. Catch a live show, they are still solid these days.
POD has some great music. They’re a Christian metal band. Came out b4 Linkin Park too
all grown up now, those of us who survived
P.O.D. was the first concert that I took my son, perhaps 25 years ago as an 8 year old.
I brought a POD cd 24 years ago I was 33 save them live in 2008 they are one of the best live acts I’ve ever seen period
Love it! Grew up with P.O.D.!
This song and Everlasts song What it is Like are very similar subject wise. Takes back to the late 90's early 00'.
South Town!!! Is a must 💪🏽
When I was a kid I was lucky enough to see these guys live, it had to be more then 8 times growing up. Always gives me goosebumps listing to “youth of a nation”
I honestly cant believe someone has never heard this. Good reaction!
I love this song so much
I'm 36 I went to ichthus from 7th grade to 10th it was a special time every year p.o.d. pillar fire proof so many greats at that time rain or drought we showed up
You are such a chill dude. I like.
The entire "Satellite" album is fantastic. Top 3 after this song:
1. Satellite
2. Alive
3. Here Comes the Boom
Agreed 💯
Their song "Brown" from the album with the same name is what turned me on to them way back when.
This song was the song of my generation (Gen Y). I was in my last semester of middle school when this came out. I've known people in my age group who were in these situations Sonny Sandoval described.
Another great reaction video. ❤
This one always reminds me of the 90s jam Dear God by xtc. Songs by the young can be incredibly powerful
I heard them sing this live a couple years ago
Such an amazing band.
This album actually came out on September 11th 2001
Great listen... brought back a lot of memories. Check out:
Going in blind
Goodbye for now (guest vocals by Katy Perry, when she was just starting to get popular)
Why Wait?
On the Grind
Roots In Stereo
These are some of my favorites. Have a great day, everyone
It almost hurts to jam out to this song because of the lyrics but man so powerful
Powerful song.
Checkout Southtown by P.O.D. It's on the heavier side of their catalog but an awesome song. The song "Eternal" is also equally good but is an acoustic/electric instrumental they released after their original guitarist left. It's a very beautiful song.
love love love the side by side view 3:45. havent seen it anywhere else and you got my follow for it. also great react.
Better late than never 👍🤘
This song is like an updated version of "Walk on the wild side"
Fundamental elements of South Town is a must
I got to meet p.o.d. at the inside out soul fest while they were setting up. Such a humble group of guys, awesome live show too
These guys are really nice, distant cousins of mine but they hang out pretty often. No one told me they were POD until I saw the poster and recognized them lmfao.
I love watching you experience and feel the music. You have given me the appreciation of music again. Thank and you.
This came out my senior year of high school. Still a powerful song. Sad that we never seem to learn from history.
P.O.D. Is older than Linkin park by a few years. Christian band but this song was directly about the columbine shootings that happened here in colorado.
And the cd came out on 9/11
That whole album is great. The first four songs are great. Set It Off, Alive, Boom, and YOTN.
GREAT song!!
The chorus is addictive. Excellent track.
My Highschool year, 2000, the song "Graduation (friends forever)" by Vitamin C, was our graduation ceremony song.. but the 'voted for' song by the students to be 'our' song the following year.. was POD's Youth of the Nation.
POD's song still holds true even in 2024... in a country where politician's are cared for more than children.
Dude said Linkin Park vibes😭. These guys were making this kind of music loooong before LP lol. One of my favorite songs from POD
My brother and his wife took their honeymoon at Disney in mid 2000's and they met Sonny and a couple of the other guys. Has photos with them. He said they were real chill. I don't care all the much for this tune, it's alright but not something I listen to on my own. Now their song "South town" is a different story
Since you asked, "waiting for the end" by Linkin Park would work! Thanks for the reaction good sir!
Full on breastfeed that would be awesome * Brah
...
The whole Satellite album is great, but my favorite tracks are Satellite, Alive, and Portrait, I am the Messenjah, and this.
P.O.D. 'Afraid to Die' featuring Tatiana from 'Jinjer'.
First thumbnail I've seen that gives appropriate weight to the song ❤💔
This whole album is a banger.
Boom, alive, and Satellite
POD has some bangers for sure!
Waaay before LP 🔥
The lyrics to this song always make me cry....
Hugs and prayers .god bless
