The OEM bolts are T30, and that obstructed bolt can be removed with a long shank T27. After assembling the new GFB+unit, hold it in place with some painters tape over the top to the turbo flange. Slide the solenoid with new spring and piston in from below, then tilting it forward to GFB. Once the solenoid ears get past the block, place a new bolt thru the solenoid ear on the top right. I held the solenoid with my left hand while using a pickup magnet to hold the bolt while I slid it thru that ear. You have to do that before moving the solenoid up and onto the GFB+. It's the only way to get that back bolt into place.
If i did this job again, once the valve was removed, I'd Dremel the block flange that obscures that back bolt to open a channel for the long shank bits

Beware this is not as straight forward as you might think. Make sure you have the ball end bits and basically everything in the tools you might need in the link he attached. Get ready for your patience to be tested but take an hour, grab a beer, and then get back to it. Have fun!!!
Also be care with the intake inlet, the plastic is fragile especially the bolt hole that connects the inlet to the turbo.

Never has one little bolt befuddled me like this one did. 😂
Night time came and I shut everything down. Next day at work in the OR I came up with the bright idea to use a locking hemostat to grip the bolt and slide it into position. Also used a 25mm bolt instead of 30mm for the top right bolt. I’d rather get nagged by my wife than do that again. Good video. Gave me a good idea of the installation and what I was up against. My N26 block has some sort of flange on the block. Next time I’ll Dremel that piece enough to make room. Thanks

Those long hex ball 4mm tool stripped my torx bolts.. its a hit or miss. Its best to find one thats of good quality and is sharp on the edges in order to actually bite the bolt as you turn it. It doesnt matter if you strip the original bolts because the GFB kit comes with new Allan bolts. But still its something to consider when trying to remove these

Just installed on a F20 N20 125i with an MST intake, charge pipes, vrsf stepped intercooler, custom 3" turbo back exhaust and bm3 stage 2. It definitely flutters, but not as much as the owner of this car shows on his channel and it also seems 'delayed'. Will be doing the MST inlet elbow as well but I doubt it would help with flutter. Tried loading it when stationary, high boost low rpm, etc. Nothing seems to work.

Dont know if youve jnstalled it yet but to answer your question it is good for holding boost better and it is way quieter than stock in most driving and since you have a stock intake it might be completely silent at times which can vary your opinion on it greatly.

How in the heck do you get the screws out? I bought the ball joint Neiko hex sockets that you recommended, but the 4mm just doesn’t grip well enough. I’m afraid to strip them. Did the hidden one first with a ratchet extension like you suggested... at least I thought I loosened it up. Moved on to the two top bolts before finishing that one, only to find that the ball joint hex doesn’t really grip well and actually spins in the head of the screw. Now I’m worried that the bottom screw was just spinning in the head since we obviously can’t see it. Used the recommended tools. What gives? Any suggestions?

If you install it without the large spring you're good. If you do install the large spring for the "sport" feel it will send a drivetrain code and derate the engine. If you keep your rpms high, this can be avoided. Something to do with back pressure on the turbo.

I just recently as of today installed a GFB diverter valve on to my 535i n55 and I'm getting fluttering sounds as if there's turbo surge going on. I also have a code "122108 BOV seized closed". I was reading on the internet somewhere that the code "122108 BOV seized closed" -- ignore, tuner code due to the piston of the GFB DV snapping shut really quickly " progressively closing" that's producing the fluttering. Idk if you found your answer elsewhere....but the factory one if I recall is plastic and prone to cracking over time. The gfb DV+ also has a better spring, as said in the vid, to help maintain better boost. Your doin it right so far for sure upgrading those parts. I would say the best “performance” mods are the turbo inlet, both sides charge pipes, diverter valve, and oil filter housing cap. Each has their own “failure” over time whether it’s cracking because it’s plastic or like the turbo inlet; prone to collapsing because it’s cheap rubber. Hope this helps😊

I'm hopefully going to get this issue resolved tomorrow when I pull the whole unit off again but my original diaphragm was eating to shit had 1 massive hole in it.
