In the 1990’s a good friend of mine that loved to go to estate sales. He stopped at one in Oklahoma and came across a western scene painting that he recognized the signature. They wanted $15 for it and he told them he would pay $7, which they took. He immediately left to travel to Dallas to an art appraiser. After much examining, the appraiser told him that his genuine Frederick Remington was worth $250,000. That made his day.
Awesome video Brad. Antique Roadshow has a few of those surprises too. They had few experts that said, "I want to go with you next time you go to a garage sale." LOL I know I don't have anything but junk at my house, so I am sure I have nothing valuable. I don't like yard sales or things like that because I have enough junk as it is. LOL
I love Antiques Roadshow. There is so much to learn from shows like that. I can understand about having too much junk. My wife says I do too. hahaha. :)
Thank you for all which you do as far as elaborating on the doing the research which you do very well. It would be nice to notice one in a million garage sale finds.
Fortunately for them, these people weren't victims of the old adage "you don't know what you've got til it's gone". I have many items that people have told me I should have appraised but I just enjoy them for what they are and have no interest in making a fortune off of them. A simple life with things that bring me joy is all I need.
I love your outlook. I have several things that some would consider valuable but, as you explained, I like them for what they are. They're more precious to me than a few dollars in my wallet. :)
Thank you, for this story! This was close to the story I heard!? The one I was asking about was played in 1985-86 and it was about a jigsaw puzzle that a man had bought at a yard sale and it ended up as an old map!? So he went to Antique dealer and eventually to a Museum Specialist to find out what it was.
I stand with you on the thrill of exploring yard sales/thrift stores, you just NEVER know what gem you'll stumble upon! I just can't believe a centuries old, exquisite map with that type of historical value ending up in a junk shop!!! I mean, who allows something like that to happen? I once bought a Red Baron peddle push car in a thrift store for $6.00!!!! I gave it away to my cousin on account of having to move, had no room for it anymore. I often wonder what ever happened to it!!! Often, when under duress, we make dumb decisions. C'est la vie!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂
It is hard to believe. I went to a yard sale a few years ago and amongst the normal glassware and other household stuff sat a very old flintlock musket. The guy wanted a decent price and I bought it. It dated to the mid 1800s. It was my neatest and most memorable find. :)

A Remington, really? Wow. I bet that did make his day. :)
Love these stories!💜💜💜
I’m very glad you’re enjoying them. :)

Isn't that the truth. :)
I gotta say that you had my mouth hanging open most of the time I was watching this!
WOW is right! Thanks, Brad.
That's how my mouth was during the research for this episode. hahaha. :)

Then again, these are just things! Ya can't buy your way to Heaven, nor can you take it with you🙏
You're exactly right. :)
There's a large reselling niche on UA-cam. Some are in it for the "thrill of the hunt". Good luck picking!
That's a lot of fun. I don't get to do it as much as I'd like to. :)
Ok...now I'm looking forward to Spring garage sale season. 😆
Me too. There's no telling what is out there. :)
you just never know what you might find and what it's actually worth
That's certainly true. :)
Love this video like your others, But not showing this one to my wife.
Hahahahaha. I didn't show it to mine either. hahaha. :)
