Genuinely a pleasure to listen and learn. As you say, Art Farmer was a real gentleman and always willing to share his memories and musical advice without hesitation. He is much missed.
I worked at a tech company that had a gym. There was usually music playing and I thought I'd ask if they'd like a disk to play. I brought in "Modern Art". The gym employee said something like: we stopped taking music from folks because there was always complaints yada yada... but I'll try your disc out anyway..." When I went back a couple days later the gym employee said enthusiastically: wow everyone loved that one can we keep it for a couple weeks. I was lucky enough to hear Art live a couple times. His choruses just kept getting more and more interesting. A rare thing.
Nice story Andy!!! I would have let him keep the CD and rebought it, but I'm a maniac. I have a million questions for Art I didn't have then, but I'm happy to say he change my life. Is was an epiphany 💙
First of all, let me apologize for not responding more quickly...I had over 130 comments there were held for "approval" I wasn't aware of. Thanks Paul :-)

I'm now using the Yamaha 8310Z flugel and may switch back to a Couesnon :-) My trumpet remains the Yamaha 8310Z which I love! Prior to that I played a Back Strad 37, ML.
Thanks for sharing, Richie! ♫

Thanks Paul :-)
I'm just getting into Art Farmer. I'm transcribing his solo on a blues titled "Pre Amp" from his Early Art album.
A great way to learn!!! Art played only trumpet on that . . . sweet sound . . . I'm going to have to give that CD a listen again shorty.
Fantastic!!!!!!
2:07 what melodic minor scale (or lydian augmented) does Art Farmer use? You don't say (It looks like Eb major over a 251 in A major)
I mention it right after 2:07 as the Lydian Augmented Scale...a fancy name for a major scale with sharp 4th and 5th :-)
Do you deliberately avoid the major 6th and 7th ascending and the flatted 6th and 7th in the melodic minor?

What kind or brand of flugel horn is that , Rich ?

Wish I lived next door to you 🎺😀.... I wouldn’t be a pest but I’d borderline on one, I’d pick your brain for as long as I could.
