    Deer are a major problem here in Northern Michigan so an 8 ft deer fence was the first thing we built! Thanks for sharing. Best, David and Rachel from CFS!!

    I think we've noticed that the fence trick is really the only thing that really works. Our deer kept destroying our trees, tearing branches out of them or injuring them beyond salvation with their antlers. The fences kept them from breaking or eating the trees so that they actually had a shot of reaching maturity.

      Yeah, I don't know any other way that works as good as a simple fence around each tree.

    I agree about fencing around fruit trees. My problem this year, when I started for the first time to get some apples on relatively new trees, was the deer busted down my fence. My problem is I did not have it secured with a lot of t-posts/poles so it was easy for them to push the fence over. Not an apple was left! Lesson learned. I'm hoping also to string up an electric fence around my trees but I've not had the time to do this.

      Yeah, some deer are more aggressive than others. The fencing has to be strong enough to hold back the deer in your area. I think the electric fence would work great.

    Greetings from the LooseNatural farm in Andalusia Spain where we currently live through a drought and we therefore have lots of deer looking for food

      So glad to make your acquaintance I didn't know that deer was a problem in Spain. Hope this tip is useful for you on the other side of the planet.

    fencing is also helpful to prevent bucks from rubbing their antlers on (or eating) the bark of the trunk, although this might be more of a problem for non-fruit deciduous trees with a straight trunk.

      You can put a cedar pole in the ground in the vicinity of your trees and often they will prefer to rub their antlers on that.

    planted some apple trees on Thursday. Friday morning, I went and bought and applied "deer repellant" Saturday morning, the deer walked up to the perimeter of "deer repellant" sniffed it specifically, then walked through it and started nibbling the tree. The deer didn't give two seconds of a dam about my "repellant"

      @fruitpruningchannel appears to be working. I guess I didn't need to make it impossible, just less convenient than going to a different area

    I put a plastic wire fence up they door my stakes up and crawed Under it. I woke up one morening and saw three deer in my 10x10 fenced area. Use metal wire. I don't think they like the way it pokes them.

    Great video. Do you have any tips on how to protect deer from wild fruit trees?

    • @fruitpruningchannel

      I would probably use the same method. I understand you probably can't save them all, but I would definitely put a small fence around each tree that you want protected from deer.

    Have you tried the Irish Spring soap bar trick? I'm wondering if that works.

    • @fruitpruningchannel
      @fruitpruningchannel  3 місяці тому

      Yes, it seems to help some, but like most methods deer get used to seeing, smelling, and tasting things, and end up disregarding things that are no longer a threat.

    I wonder how companies obtain animals urine?

    • @fruitpruningchannel
      @fruitpruningchannel  6 місяців тому

      I believe trappers collect the urine in addition to the pelt. There must be buyers that will pay for the urine to incentivize the trapper to save it.
