🤩 Well HOT DAMN! You're the FIRST person beyond MYSELF that I know of who uses Drum Sequencers as Melody & Bass Generators!!! 😎👍🎶 Most ppl KNOW the average Drum Machine have 8 Channels which can be assigned to different notes (to control samples or other drum machines), but FORGET that 8 notes are in an OCTAVE, which means literally INFINITE Melodies, especially if your Drum Synth has a RANDOMIZE function 😁🎉 DRUM COMPUTER & PIGMENTS are incredible for this (I use PIGMENTS to create jaw-dropping Drum Sequences too!) since they have Humanize, Swing, & "Fill" Generators, but XO (for it's Accentuator!) & Reason's BEAT MAP (for it's Mirror & Density features!) are also exceptional in this regard 🤯🥰 Switching things up I also enjoy using HY Plugins MPS2 to Generate Perc & Drum Sequences because their outcomes are so unexpected, yet intuitively organic 😄 ...But actually ALL the Sugar Bytes tools are genius -- including CONSEQUENCE, their first Sequencer 🥰 So YES!!! This was a great video! Can't wait for your next one. Sincerely, a fellow creator 🎵😎🎶
@@AlexReidStudios I totally forgot to mention PROBABILITY when it comes to Generating Melodies. Some DAWs don't have Probability in their Piano Rolls, but a LOT of Drum VSTs DO these days 🎰🎲🪄😁👍🎶
Thanks for that. I created mapping from Drumcomputer to Altals 2, Modo drums, and best of all my Korg hardware drum machine. It makes everyhting so much easier and inspiring to use. great tip!
Amazing video! I want to ask you something. Do you know where I can find a guide to how to program drums for rock, ska and reggae? I mean a guide where I will be able to see how to identify where I have to add kick, snare. Thanks
Sadly no, I want to make a video on how to make programmed drums feel and sound human, but for genre specific things I don't know. I can only suggest you to listen to music and check out patterns
that's a great workflow for creating unique sequences. even without this synth's extra features (randomization etc) it is already just valuable for giving a nice perspective on the traditional piano roll. reminds me a bit of the drummap in cubase, which also highlight rhythm while blending out the lengths of the notes, as that's not relevant for most drums. just wondering if you can drag n drop the sequence into bitwig as midi. that would be even more useful since bitwig doesn't come with a way to bounce its midi effects into just midi, so when 3rd party plugins let you drag n drop their stuff it helps with workflows, where the outcome should be consistent (in terms of realtime randomization) and tweakable
In bitwig you can select the midi input of each track on the inspector panel, it let's you select from your midi controller to other tracks in the project
I've been doing this for years in Bitwig out of necessity. In my case with FXpansion Tremor. Just toss in front of Drum machine and done. Unfortunately Tremor has been abandoned and it's ancient. Currently using Audiomodern Playbeat 3. Hopefully BWS makes a proper native sequencer this decade.
@@AlexReidStudios A year later. Still waiting for Bitwig to make a proper sequencer. 🤣 Since my last post Triaz came out, I do like its Sequencer, but unfortunately, as far as I know it does not output MIDI.
Been following you for a while now - Thank you so much for your amazing videos. I really want to make this work - As it stands I'm using bitwig, Drum Computer and XO (I've tried a few) and I can't get any midi out from drum computer for the life of me. Set it up in settings. Put them on different tracks. Set the Midi input of the XO track to the drum computer track. Gosh, I'm at a loss. Any troubleshooting tips? THanks again for all of your great videos!
@@zolakaya Great! Make sure to select the midi input on XO track, and to have both tracks armed, you can mute drum computer so it doesn't makes a sound
All right man I give up. I learned that if I drag and drop midi with the hand I can then hear the pattern play, but I cannot get the patterns to play/audition any other way. Please tell me the secret. It should be as easy as hitting the play button but it doesn't work on mine. Thanks, G
I use Reaper. I just kind of figured it out just now watching your video really closely. The only way to play/audition is to hit the play button and then hit the transport on the DAW. otherwise no sound comes out. Even then, it seems to not work every time but at least it's something. It's strange that i can't just play it in the machine to audition patterns - i have to have the track playing. Also, I'm surprised there isn't a key I can strike on my midi piano roll that will trigger a pattern - just the samples. I have more than a dozen drum machines and this one is the most frustrating of the bunch. I really appreciate you responding. It's only from you I learned the most important piece of info - to drag and drop midi using the hand. Nobody else ever mentions this and I can't even find it in the manual. Thank you for what you do. Gordon@@AlexReidStudios
Decent, but I think Stepic has tons of features over this for far less, just use with any drum VST or sampler for the sounds... It has not just the randomization, but also chord functions. Drum sequencers make passable general sequencers, but general sequencers make dope drum sequencers...

You could do that with the roland tr808 back in the day
never would have thought to use them like that. thats a pretty good way to add that sort of workflow to other plugins
Exactly, that way you don't limit yourself to the sounds of a specific plugin

you made some fantastically wonderful rhytms with your technique.
Thank you :)

What a cool idea to use Pigments as a sequencer for other plugins!
Totally! Specially if you like to use other alternatives to make sound

Yes you can! You can choose the bars and then drag and drop by the hand icon on the top
Awesome tips and ideas! thanks! ... a lot!
So glad you liked them! Thanks!
Genius idea ! Thanksalot
Thank you, and enjoy it!
@@AlexReidStudios i'm gonna try it with Atlas to boost my workflow
Cool. can you add your own samples? and how are their own sounds?
Yes you can, you can even drag and drop samples. Their sounds are nice too :)
@@AlexReidStudios did u try Triaz? how it compares?
I completely forgot you can do this with DrumComputer. I’ve just been using it to create fast paced drums.
Considering how many other drum generators and acoustic drum plugins are there, this is crazy
How do you send the midi from drum computer to another instrument?
In bitwig you can select the midi input of each track on the inspector panel, it let's you select from your midi controller to other tracks in the project
