Weathervanes: Stories From Maine

Every summer, Jay Carroll goes out on the water for an offshore camping trip with his good pals Cody Hoyt and Adam McPherson. They pack up his boat Moon Snail and go looking for simple Maine adventures - exploring islands, swimming in the brisk ocean, bird watching, and of course, fishing for their supper.
This year they left from his home on Bailey Island, launched near Clark Island, and spent a couple days enjoying the glory of a few special spots around lower Penobscot Bay.
They met a few folks along the way. Sarah Xiao, a shellfish purveyor who works with farms and fishermen and women all throughout the Maine coast, hooked them up with some delicious fresh oysters.
Then they stumbled upon artist Timothy Wilson. He was taking in the magic of the foggy coastline while plein air painting, part of his creative process before creating larger scale paintings in his studio.
And before they left Jay’s island, local fisherman and charismatic storyteller PJ Murray told them some of his wild fish tales - which saved as wise and inspiring words for the journey ahead.
This is Weathervanes - a project by Jay Carroll and L.L.Bean that tells unique stories from the kingdom of Maine. From the backroads of her Northern Woods, to her rugged, salt- kissed shores, and all points in between.
