When I got my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo in May 2004, I thought it was the best vehicle I'd ever had. Over the 10 years I owned it, the only real service issues were due to wear and tear (or neglect from a mechanic I used to go to). I hated the thought of having to give it up, but this past July, the AC started acting up. Once repaired, the compressor went out. With no warranty, high mileage (143,000+ miles), and not wanting to get wrapped up in repair after repair like I'd gone through with my 1997 Pontiac Grand Am that I had before my Jeep, I knew it was time to look for something newer. So, at the end of July, I purchased my first new vehicle: a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, a 10-year newer version of my old Jeep. Earlier this evening, I took it in for the first 6000-mile oil change/tire rotation. Everything is still running as smoothly as the day I bought it. While I had some great memories of the drives I'd been on in my old Jeep, I'm loving the new Jeep and am enjoying every drive in it, whether it be my daily commute to work or a long day trip (see my recent videos on my channel for videos of my drive last fall down to West Virginia). We've had some wintery weather here in central Ohio that has made driving tricky at times, and my Jeep has been handling it with no issues. It's only been six short months, but it is safe to say that my 2014 Grand Cherokee is the best vehicle I've driven/owned.

How is your Jeep running now in 2016?

    • @chatanugadotorg

Running just fine. I've only had one issue about a year ago. Was stopping for a light when it started shaking and the engine light started flashing. I turned it off, and then I got it restarted with no trouble. Took it to the dealership, and apparently it had been a misfire on all of the cylinders. The only thing unusual that could be found was that I had ethanol in my tank, even though I only put 87 octane gas in it. While the Jeep can handle ethanol, the switch from gas to ethanol is supposed to be done gradually so it doesn't "shock" the system. So, how did I get ethanol in the tank? I'd just gotten gas and filled the tank before that happened. Apparently, several other vehicles from around the area had been brought in for the same issue to the dealership, meaning some gas company was delivering bad gas to area gas stations.
Once the issue with my Jeep was resolved, there have been no problems. It still handles and drives like new. Driving around town in a mix of city and freeway traffic, I'm averaging about 24.5 miles per gallon, which goes up even more when out in the country on open road. So far, it's still the best vehicle I've ever owned/driven.
As far as the recall on the gear shifter goes, I'm still waiting for somebody to say this is a joke. Yes, the electronic shifter took some getting used to when I got the Jeep, but since I don't talk on the phone when I drive, pay attention when I'm at the wheel, and had read the owner's manual after getting it (does anybody else still do that these days?), there has been no issue. In order to not have the vehicle in park and get out, you would have to ignore the gear indicators on the shifter and next to the speedometer, ignore the "Vehicle not in park" that comes on over the speedometer, and ignore the chime when opening the door to get out. If people are getting out and unable to tell if the vehicle is in park, they need to stop driving!

chatanugadotorg thank you for your detailed experience. I just bought one and I still in the I don't know stage. It's a lot of SUV and I just wondered on your experience. Mine has 49,000 miles on it.

Wow great reviews guys. 👍🏽 I bought a 07 jgc 4x4 limited in 2009 rolled it off the dealership w 19k miles two yrs old (twas a rental car originally I think, I assume) but fast forward to now 11/25/17 currently I just hit 153K all freeway/city miles. I love my Laredo!over the past decade I’ve replaced, updated some stock worn out parts like alternator, starter, batteries, all the recommended fluid/oil/transmission changes, new tires, new brake pads, f & r worn out hood latches. The A/C still runs super cold! Yes It’s been a lot of replacing/updating here and there for the last ten years but they’re relatively cheap parts from local automotive shops and cheap installation labors. Every time I change worn out parts my Laredo feels like its brand new again & she runs very smooth. My mileage is getting up there now and I’m thinking about trading it in for a used 2014 base mode jgc Laredo like the gentleman model mentioned above. I’m kind of hesitant to do it because my Laredo still drives perfectly fine atm but fully aware that the 153K miles mark will eventually catch up w me. Recently the engine light flashed while driving home from a road trip LA back home to Vegas & that engine light remained on overnight also noticed a low rpm idle shaking after a restroom stop but once back on the road the shake idle disappears. So the very next day I bought a brand new replacement gas cap($12)and had the Air Intake Control Valve cleaned out by my local mechanic ($30) and the problem was fixed, no more engine light on and apparently my AICV was just dirty. I test drove the 2014 JGC Laredo base model from the dealership yesterday(it had 61K miles tho 😬probably a rental car) sticker was $21.5K from local dealership here in Las Vegas. You guys think that’s a lot of miles for a 2014 model? When I test drove it it even had the engine light on! And the salesperson said they can reset that and give me the carfax record of the jeep. Idk I passed on it I might just stick w my old Laredo for now 🤫 she still treats me good. Ok I’m done thanks for your time reading this - any suggestions & recommendation would be appreciated take care and have a good weekend y’all!! 🤙🏽

Amazing wk2! Battery lasted 10 years. Exhaust is still good at 215k miles. Runs like new. Cheap to own. Snow is something I shovelled in the past.

Just bought the wife a 2014 Summit 4x4 with the Hemi. Only had it about a week but damn this thing sure is nice. Runs great, handles well, very quiet and the fit and finish seems quite good. Makes the $55k 2007 GMC Yukon Denali XL I trade off seem crude in comparison.

@fsjgw Territory is also sedan based like the Explorer, Territory is based on the Ford Falcon RWD sports sedan (competitor to Holden Commodore a.k.a Pontiac G8 and 2014 Chevy SS). Territory comes in 5 and 7 seats and RWD and AWD. The Territory shared some components or design or something with the Tuarus X.

+AudioSlave --- Not horrible, but not great. Anything under 9 seconds is fine. Only motor heads thinks 8.3 is horrible. And considering the massive 4700 lb weight, 8.3 is very respectable. We're not talking a race car.

It is available in the USA, it's the Explorer here. I think yours is better looking. So is your Ranger(now killed off in the USA), and your 2 door Fiesta (we're stuck with 4/5 door versions). Plus you get LPG versions in some of the vehicles.

I use the glass hatch more than the trunk door itself in my Ford Territory (it's Australian and not available in the US), so I won't be getting a GC when the Territory is killed off in 2016. Only if Holden produced a Commodore based SUV/CUV...

Bought a brand new 2014 Jeep Grand Overland Diesel August 30, 2014 that has been in the shop for four times for a total of 15 days.
Shifting problems that the dealership SAID they fixed (still not working properly), Navigation stopped working, air suspension overheats, Radio problems, master window switch broken, glove box rod bent so the glove box didn't lock or close properly, I have it set up when the Jeep is turned off the the steering wheel moves up then when you start the Jeep again it goes back down that only works half the time.

You have been posting the same thing in almost every review. Perhaps you should have upgraded to the 2015 version which pretty much got rid of the gremlins in the previous year. I certainly did and so far after a few months has been virtually problem free.

Has anybody ever noticed how many times he uses the word trapezoidal when he describes certain aspects of a car? I sure have, it's one of his favorite descriptive words! Funny thing is trapezoidal means that it should have two parallel sides... He describes the wheel arches as trapezoidal in this video, which clearly they are not trapezoidal. Trapezoidal, trapezoidal, trapezoidal!!!

Nope, Explorer is a different car. There was a Ford USA SUV that shared some parts with the first gen Territory but wasn't as good. Yep Ford Australia do some things right, sadly Ford executives don't realise that and are killing off local production and limit the design team to boring vehicles (with the exception of the Ranger). Hopefully GM continue to respect Holden.

  • @fsjgw
    @fsjgw 10 років тому

I see the specs now, yes Territory is smaller and lighter, wheel base is close. Wonder how a car based suv like the Explorer(AWD Ecoboost 3.5) weighs more than truck based Territory(TS AWD 7 seater)? But neither one can match the Grand Cherokee's 7200lbs(3265kg) towing capacity.

Thanks for the input. As you say, though, snow and mud are different. We've got a lot of big muddy beanfields here but very little snow. I've been considering one of these but without much reference as to how they do in what we've got, I'm a little leery.

JGC 2014 is nothin but a vehicle full of problems.. I bought a JGC 5.7 v8 limited 3 months ago and from day 1 I had multiple issues such as steering vibration, parking lights dint wrk, electronic problems, rattle sound from dashboard, tick tick sound frm gear, bluetooth streaming issues, auto exit dint work at times, side mirror, etc etc.. evn after changing the tires 5, 6 times the vibration dint go and they dint have any solution for it.. finally fighting wd the company I got my money back.. I would never recommend dis vehicle.. stay away frm it..
