- Rawang Bypass is also known as Rawang-Serendah Highway. This 10-km highway was opened to traffic in November 2017 after 12 years of construction. It features a 2.7kg elevated viaduct with highest pillar of 58.2 meters.
The viaduct was constructed along the border of the Selangor State Heritage Park to minimize the negative impact towards the critically endangered Giam Kanching trees which is an endemic species and can only be found nowhere else but in the heritage park
The Rawang Bypass was built to solve the traffic congestion along the Malaysia Federal Route 1 in the town centre of Rawang. This route was reported to help cut down travelling time from Serendah to Selayang from 2 hours to only 30 minutes.
We hiked Bukit Batu (some people name it Bukit Matt, others Bukit Kuari…) to have a panoramic view of the elevated portion of the highway. The trail head of Bukit Batu is located along Jalan RP5, Taman Rawang Perdana, Rawang, Selangor. Specific coordinates is 3.319502, 101.594880. The trail starts on paved road. We continued to walk for about 8 minutes until we reached the highway noise barrier wall. Take the right turn and we continued walking until we reach the tunnel, where we entered and cross to the other side of the highway.
We reached this area in 30 minutes from where we begin, despite the congestion, so it is a very short hike. Spent some light moments up there with some coffee and biscuits, flew our drone, posed for photos and descent via another route whereby we crossed to the other side of the highway via the underneath of the highway, thereby completed the whole loop of the hike to the Bukit Batu.
